How to do SEO for a social networking site?
-
Howdy SEOmoz fans,
We are about to launch an educational social networking site.
We have planned a lot of good strategies for offline and online marketing. Coming to SEO, how we can do search engine optimization effectively for our social networking site. The home page will be sign up page and there wont be any content in it.
It would be great if you can suggest us prefect SEO tactics for our site.
Thank you.

Is there going to be any text on the home page at all? If so, carefully consider your wording on that page, and try to incorporate at least one keyword anywhere. Besides that it's going to be all about links. I'd highly suggest creating a blog, and using that as a way to reach out to universities and such.
Find an article on an educational website that is out of date, or incomplete, and write an updated more complete version. Then contact that university to link over to your article as a resource for further reading.

Is there a software to help me check whether the sites that i give link to, also place my link on their site (reciprocal link)?
When i exchange links with others, i usually put their link on my site hoping that they'll do the same. Since it's impossible to check all sites whose link i have placed on my page to see if they have put a link back to me, i was wondering whether there is a kind of software to help me do that!

Backlinks from PR sites not showing in Open Site Explorer
Hi, Over the last year I have used a range of different PR sites to post news articles that link back to various pages on my site. However, barely any show up as link backs on Open Site Explorer, neither follow nor nofollow links. Can anyone explain why this is and whether or not the dofollow links count towards SEO if they are not picked up by OSE?

UGC content sites not hit by Panda?
I know many social and article sites (hubpages, ezinearticles, many low quality article sites, etc.) were hit by Panda. Many higher quality sites that accept user-submitted content were not hit. High quality blogs that accept guest posts is one example. I believe Squidoo fared pretty well. Any other sites that accept user-generated content (with links) that still rank well?
