Sudden rankings drop for our most profitable keyword?
-
Hi,
I was hoping you could help me with a troubling issue that has come up this week. We have consistently ranked in the top 3 for the keyword "grey goose glasses" for the last 12 months. We received 74 visits from this keyword from Dec 3 to Jan 3. For some reason on Jan 4th we dropped from the top 3 to somewhere around 40-70 and receive almost no traffic from this keyword an longer. The page that was ranking was http://thebottlemill.com/tbm/grey-goose-drinking-glass.html
I have since changes a the Page title and URL with a 301 redirect and the H1 tag to be a better match but this was just done yesterday. We havent seemed to be effected like this on other keywords. Any suggestions would be helpful.

You can use, Screaming Frog. It's a free program you should include in your website audit. Very powerful and produces reports to csv you can study in Microsoft Excel.

Hi Sandip,
I was wondering which tool do you use to detect duplicate content?
Thanks
Emmanuel

You are simply copy-pasting the same product details here -
http://www.amazon.com/Grey-Goose-Glasses-Set-4/dp/B009AEEN82 http://takenows.com/big-bargain-grey-goose-glasses-set-of-4-available-for-you/ http://reviewsalepiceonline5.nazuka.net/deal-Grey-Goose-Glasses-Set-of-4_B009AEEN82.php http://bbbreviewnow.3eeweb.com/grey-goose-glasses-set-of-4/ http://breadmachinesonsale.medianewsonline.com/Great-Discount-Grey_Goose_Glasses_Set_of_4-B009AEEN82.html
You are creating duplicate content and since Amazon.com is highly trusted, this website is not going get penalized for having duplicate content. Rather your website will get affected. Create unique content and if you ever need to submit your product to sites like Amazon, you need to create unique content.

There is many reasons why you could certainly fall in Google's index; however, I always start with an analysis on your backlinks. Specifically what Majestic SEO calls "trust flow" and "citation flow". As you can see in the graph you links to the overall domain is light.
Links are still a vital statistic that will show how well you rank organically. You might want to try and find a way to rearrange how your website is inner-linked to your inner pages. This is consider a white-hat-seo tatic to help pass page rank juice throughout your website.
If you want to return, try and create some relationship with bloggers in your niche and maybe offer free products for reviews and have specific links to your inner pages.
The next thing you want to examine is if you have duplicate content. Google duplicate content checker or install screaming frog's free version of their SEO spider to get more data on other SEO factors like:
1.)on page seo
-best practices on your title tag, meta description, meta keywords, keyword density, and how organic of your content.
*biggest deal here is the length on each of these on-page-seo factors. You want 54 characters in your title, meta description about 154 char max and meta keywords 5 to 10 although not a heavy metric or factor anymore. Your keyword density should stay 1 to 3% if you can help it. Just divide the number times you use a keyword phrase by the amount of words for your page.
Hope this helps you get started. See image for Majestic SEO mention.

Is it better to optimise for several keywords/keyword variations on one page, or create sub categories for those specific terms?
I've done a fair of research to try to find the answer to this, but different people seem to give very different opinions, and none of the info I could find is recent! I'm working with a company that produces a range of industrial products that fit into 6 main categories, within this categories, there are types of products and the products themselves. Prior to my involvement most of the content was added to the product pages and very little was added to the overall category page. The structure works like this: Electronic devices > type of device > products The 'type of device' category could be something like a switch, but within that category are 3/4 different switch types...leaving me with 11 or 12 primary keyword/phrases to aim for as each switch is searched for in more than one way. Should I try to rank for all of those terms using that one category page? Or should I change the structure to something like: Electronic devices > type of device > sub-category/specific variation of device > product This would mean creating a page for each variation to have a more accute focus for a small number of phrases..but it also means I've added another step between the home page and the products. Any advice is welcome! I'm worried I'm overthinking it!

Keyword keeps fluctuating between a high rank and no rank?
I've searched around and I can't seem to find anyone else describing the issue I'm seeing. Basically for a very long time our website (snappages.com) has always ranked in the tens and twenties for "create a website". It's a high volume keyword and we get a lot of traffic from it. Around May 16th it suddenly disappeared completely from search results on Google and now it will sporadically show back up with a SERP in the twenties every 5-10 days for a few hours and then completely disappear again. This pattern has continued to this day. I've checked and there are no manual penalties and nothing has really changed dramatically from a content perspective or anything like that. I would understand if we got penalized and our ranking dropped, or even if it just completely disappeared? This is the only keyword that this is happening for, all the others remain unaffected. Anyone know how I can find out why this is happening or have suggestions on how to fix it?

Discrepancy in keyword ranking from webmasters and actual ranking.
I have been tracking ranks of some keywords important to my business since the last 2 months. Recently I have observed that, for one of my keywords, google webmasters is giving the avg position as 8 but when i search in google it comes in the 6th page. I know that webmasters tools gives the average position but i do not think there will be such big difference in the ranks. Please help.Thanks.

Site Not Ranking- No Reason Why
I have a client with a HUGE website who should be ranking for it's competitive keywords. No penalties, or bad links. Old domain. Not ranking for anything. Client has a huge AdWords spend and my theory is that it's not ranking organically because of the AdWords spend. I can't think of anything other reason. Anyone? Thanks. The keywords I'm trying to rank this client for aren't even competitive.

Cannot Increase Ranking For a Keyword Phrase
I've been working on the keyword phrase, "Niceville Assisted Living" for the website: http://nicevilleassistedliving.com and my increase in rankings has pretty much stalled. When I first started working on this website, a lot of the content was duplicated (which we took care of by plugging in unique content), there were locations listed on the homepage that were throwing my rankings off, I've created blog posts each week (we've even tried posting one post every day for a week), added the Facebook feed to the homepage, corrected errors in the theme, and I'm trying to get a resources page built. I know content is a very, very large part of SEO.. but it seems like the content I am plugging in isn't helping. There aren't any errors in Webmaster Tools and my keyword density is fairly close to the website ranking #1. I think my biggest problem is backlinks. Other websites have quite a few whereas the website I'm working on doesn't have any (I'm working on that, but the number I have doesn't compare to the websites ranking in the top three). I'm stumped as to what to do next. Does anyone have suggestions to improve the ranking for this keyword phrase?

Why? Keyword ranking on Google go under and down regularly
I have a group of keyword that constantly move within the Google SERP. One week they are in the top 3 spots the next they fall down to position 7+ (in some cases they even fall 20 places) then after this they eventually go back to their most regular position within the top 3 spots. Can anyone please explain why this keep happening?

Do pages with irrelevant keywords hurt the domain overall for ranking for relevant keywords?
I have been doing SEO for the University I work at. We are optimizing our degree pages on a page-by-page basis. So hypothetically we have a page optimized for "online accounting degree" and another for "online marketing degree", etc. Although our focus is on specific page optimization, we hope the by-product is that the whole domain will start to rank better for "online degree". First of all, is this a reasonable expectation? Second, if this IS the case, will pages full of irrelevant keywords hurt the overall strategy? For example, our registrar and financial aid PDFs that are full of legal/financial mumbo-jumbo. Are these lowering our keyword density of relevant keywords across the domain?
