How accurate is SEOMoz's keyword analysis tool?
-
For the most part, SEOMoz's keyword analysis tool has been in line with other tools like Adwords keyword tool with regards to competitive level. I have just encountered a keyword though that a client may choose to compete on that seems to be far off.
keyword phrase: online math games
Adwords competitive level: Low
SEOMoz competitive level: 80
This seems like a sizeable difference (I know the two compare all results vs first page authority's, but typically they are in line with each other).
With other related keywords for the industry in question, SEOMoz and Adwords seem to be in line. This one just got me thinking. I know the SEOMoz score is a sign of the strength of the top results and that the "low" score from Adwords may be a sign of much weaker results on the following pages (with a higher number of weaker pages vs fewer high authority outliers).
**Question: **
How accurate is SEOMoz keyword analysis tool and what other keyword analysis tools are you guys/gals using that you like? I have tried others but many provide duplicate insights.

To put it simply, Adwords difficulty is based on the competition level of other advertisers, whereas SEOMoz keyword difficulty is based on the top 10 organic search results.
Adwords = Sponsored results
Seomoz = Organic results
In other words, don't bother with the adwords competition unless you're only interested in advertising on adwords.

Hi Mathew,
Thanks for writing in with a great question.
We actually use different parameters than Adwords to rate the keyword difficulty. We find our numbers with Mozrank, Moztrust, Domain Authority and Page Authority to calculate the keyword difficulty. These metrics are calculated by our own crawl and algorithm and we use them to calculate the Keyword Difficulty score based o the first 20 results so the number that they display can sometimes be different then what Adwords shows.
If you want to know more about the metrics we use, you can take a look at this resource: http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/domain-authority
I went ahead and marked this as a discussion questions so that others can recommend the tools they use.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Rank Checker Tool
I have more than 25 keywords ranked in the top 30 for various sites and some of these keywords were inputted a couple weeks ago. However, only one of them has shown a position change. Is there something wrong with the software? It says the next rankings update is April 7th. When was the last rank update?

Keywords for Whatafy.com
Hi guys, I own whatafy.com, we translate the articles from my romanian website dli.ro. I'm working on a script for subdomain ask.whatafy.com Whatafy = We Have All The Answers For You Now i'm stuck in seomoz, because as you can see we have articles from over 40 domains, and is a general online magazine with articles. What keywords should i use for main domain ? What competitors to enter in those 3 options so i can track and beat them. Should i make another campaign for ask.whatafy.com when is ready ? or the main campaign have some options to track subdomain to ? I have same situation with dli.ro where in subfolders i have different scripts like, web directory, companies listing, dreams interpretations, illustrated jokes, text jokes, driving licens test, online test for fun, postcodes, wheater, big forum, maps, ecards etc. Is a big portal with everything, and for each subfolder i targeted severel keywords, i need to make a campaign for each folder ?

Best way to analyze keyword difficulty for 10,000+ keywords?
I've done quite a bit of searching, but can't seem to find a time efficient way to accurately analyze keyword difficulty for large sets of keywords. All of the keyword difficulty tools out there that I've tried are either 1) not accurate 2) slow (like seomoz's kw difficulty tool only allows 5 entries at a time). Can anyone recommend any shortcuts / tools / processes to analyze kw difficulty for large sets of keywords?

If you only had a limited budget for tools...
With a limited budget for SEO tools, what would you suggest having that would cover everything. Lets say with a £200 a month budget. We only look after ourselves, which is around 5 accounts in terms of PPC, so SEO follows similar suit. Is SEOmoz effective enough to cover all of our basis. Are there bits it is missing that are better else where? What are your thoughts basically and what are the benefits of each tool. Thanks in advance

About NOFOLLOW tag for SEOmoz analysis
Hi all, Another issue while trying to resolve all the duplicate content SEOmoz reports to me. May be some of you guys can help: I have a dynamic error page on our website, generated in case of error, that can happen on many urls. Of course that one should not be indexed. I added the following tag on the HEADER: name="robots" content="NOODP,NOINDEX,NOFOLLOW" /> To me this should prevent from having this page indexed, but also from having this page reported by SEOmoz analyzer as duplicate content. Any hints?

What's the best research tool for measuring blogger outreach success?
I'm looking for the best MOZ Pro research tool to track the success of our fledgling blogger outreach/link building efforts. Should we use Open Site Explorer's "Full List of Link Metrics", or is there something better or more granular for counting and analyzing inbound blog links? Thanks!
