LInk Building Ideas for Large Site

Hi,
I have a very large sized website of about 5 Million Pages. Earlier i used to rank very well with many naturally occurred links, But now, i lost my rankings with numerous Google updates. My content is user generated content and it wont be pure original as my users will post the same on other forums too. I all of my pages rank on #1 page for their keywords. Can anyone suggest me good link building strategy for larger websites as each url will have different keyword, i want all of my urls to be ranked well.

Google's not real keen on having just search results for other content in its index.
For people, you'll need to convince them why to link to your site instead of the source site you index. I couldn't get any of the links on the homepage to go anywhere, they just brought me to the home page, and I tried in two different browsers.
There are lots of ideas for getting links on the SEOmoz blog, but they generally center around having good content. I'll be honest with you that SEOmoz may not be the place to get the type of answer you're looking for. It does tend to be a fairly white hat crowd around here.

Thanks for the reply, but how about this site www.filestube.com which is of the same niche was ranking <100 alexa rank and ranking well in google. I am confused, on how to build up my site here. I do not encourage people to download copyright material..all i do, is indexing file hosting files, if anyone reports for copyright i will remove them promptly. But however, its not under my control to control kind of files to be indexed. As the algorithm will takes care of indexing all the files.

This might be a tough one, due to the nature of the content. It looks like the intent is to let people download copies of materials that might be copyright, which is going to be a hard sell to the search engines and to encourage other legitimate sites to link to.

Hey Dhee, that is such an incredibly broad question that I doubt anyone can give you a perfect answer or indeed, if a perfect answer even exists.
If you drop in some example links I am sure folks can give you some more targeted guidance.

Links from non existant sites?
Hi! I'm new at all this 🙂 I've taken a look at the backlink profile for one of my sites as it's seems its been hit by this last Penguin update. I'm finding links to my homepage from sites that no longer exist, like this one: http://mikimoto-pearls.org - does this hurt my backlink? I mean, I would figure it does since there's nothing there? If so, how do I get the link removed? Do I even need to? Disavow tool maybe? Thank you!

Best way to build inbound links?
Recently I learned that there are links that are nofollow that google doesn't consider part of SEO. Do I ditch the link building and risk the drop?
I am currently on top of SERPS but am worried about some of the links being built by my seo company. We add loads of content to the site which I think is fine. We have somebody working on the on page and tech side of things which I think is fine. However I am still paying an seo company which basically builds links for me. Because I am in top spot for many terms I am nervous to turn it off. However I am also nervous that one day I will wake up and we will have been penalized! They do not build many links and they are convinced that google still want to see a varied link profile. If I stop paying then some of the ‘better’ or higher PR sites will no longer have a link to my site and will therefore drop off. We do have a great site with great content so I think we do many things well but I am nervous that these paid for links will be the death of me if I am not careful. The question is do I get rid of the link building and risk the drop? Or is a small amount of links just to keep the link profile looking Ok and not overdoing it the right move? Thanks a lot. Dave

Are you using ArticleBase.com for link building?
I'm digging my way through my competitors' link profiles on OSE and came across one that had been using a site called ArticleBase.com Apparently you can publish articles for free and browse other published articles for usage on your own site (provided you follow their TOS). It actually seems like a nifty idea. I'm wondering if anyone has utilized this site for re-publishing content and building external links. Worth the effort? Thanks!

I think that we as webmasters have to ask ourselves what do we want to achieve with link building. To get quick traffic or build slow authority links, high rankings, lead generation, sales & other things here I may be missing etcccc Other Objective Networking & Relationship Building Alliances : What I discovered today is that building links for 1st page rankings are great and will provide me with steady traffic, but not all of it is targeted traffic, but what else can I do to bring targeted traffic and at the same time try to build alliances with other related non competing business owners online. The idea... is to apply old school networking / relationship building alliances to get targeted traffic to my site that can actually benefit from my services. How Do We Achieve This I become a editor for approving resource links for me site, only the best will be placed on my site as a resource. Build a valuable tightly themed categorized resource section with related non competing resources that can help my sites visitors find what they are looking for, send visitors to non competing resources that may purchase their services which helps me build a relationship with them, and may can with rankings as well, provided I am selective with my qualification process. Mobile sites link strategies
Hi, I am working for a large mobil-site (+200.000 pages), to improve their SEO, and am trying to figure out the best way to set up a linkbuilding strategy for the site. The urls are very dynamic and often rather long so deep linking is difficult. Any input/ideas would be welcome 🙂 Jens Peter
