Campaign Domain "change" (www. vs no www.)
-
Hello,
I'm tracking a domain (with www.thespin.be) since months. Last week we changed things related to domain & server and now SEOmoz has 0 pages crawled.
I think that's because now my main domain is without www. (thespin.be).
How can I modify my campaign to reflect this "change" (that's not really a new domain..) to avoid losing all my campaign history ?
Also, on Google Webmaster Tools it's like I have 2 different sites (one with www. and another without), although I've defined my favorite domain (without www.) months ago.. Google won't update its index. And I have this problem on several other sites..
Thank you very much for giving me a feedback.
Regards
Jean-Louis

Hi Jean-Louis! This is Megan from SEOmoz. You're right that the number of pages getting crawled has dropped to 1 because of the change from www to non www. Unfortunately, you'll need to start a new campaign for thespin.be. The tool doesn't allow the domain of a campaign changed once it's setup. It's limited in that way, because if the parameters of a campaign were constantly changing, it could make it extremely difficult to interpret historical data in terms of why progress was or wasn't made.
On the bright side, you can archive your current campaign so that you'll have all of the historical data for reference. Also, archiving doesn't take up a campaign slot.
I hope this helps!

Here is the code you need to use:
- Locate your .httpaccess file inside the root folder (you may need a file explorer)
- Open it inside Notepade/Wordpad, i recommend NotePad++
- Add this code:
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.(.+) [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*) http://%1/$1 [R=301,NE,L]
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.(.+) [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*) https://%1/$1 [R=301,NE,L]
This will affect http://www. and https://www.
This httpaccess if safe to use with SSL on or off.
Note that I used
NE
flag to prevent apache from escaping the query string. Without this flag, apache will change the requested/?foo%20bar
to/?foo%2250bar

Hi Labici,
First, thank you for your fast reply.
Well I have 2 zone DNS type A redirecting to my server: 1 with www. and the other without. Is it okay or should I use another type of redirect ?
-
First be sure you redirect all the www. traffic to non www. domain or you will get duplicated content and titles.
You have made a good move to get rid of www. as google tends to rank non www. domains higher.
"domain & server and now SEOmoz has 0 pages crawled."
I think you need to wait to be re-indexed, not 100% sure, but I think you will get the answer Friday when the reports are being sent out by SEOMoz.

I see some links on Youtube.com that look like they are "Do-follow" links am I wrong?
Hi, I have some videos on YouTube.com and I notice many of the links show as "Do-Follow" per the Moz Bar. I have a feeling they are not actually "Dofollow" links because they never show up in Moz Pro, SemRush or any of my other tools. Can some of you people with greater knowledge of YouTube please clarify why the links look like "Do Follow". I am specifically thinking of my own backlinks on the videos and also the links in the "Comments". Best Regards, Bill Dalessi

Recovering rankings after a botched url change
Hi there, I have for a long time had a bicycle maintenance website at madegood.org. Over the years the film branch of this business has taken off and moved in a slightly different direction, so I thought in March I decided to move madegood.org to madegoobikes.com, and create a new website for my film business at madegood.com. I thought I did a good job of telling google about my change of domain, but my rankings completely died, so about a month I moved madegoodbikes.com back to madegood.org. So far I haven't seen any sign of a recovery in my rankings, I'm getting almost no visits. I've check all my top pages on OSE and everything seems to be in place. https://moz.com/researchtools/ose/pages?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.madegood.org%2F&no_redirects=0&sort=page_authority&filter=all&page=1 Is it normal to wait over a month for my rankings to recover, or is there anything else I should be doing? Any tips/ideas/advice whatsoever will of huge help!

Domain or Category Links for E-Commerce Page?
I am trying to rank with my page on a major keyword for my E-Commerce store. Currently, I am ranking on page 4 in SERP:
Moz Pro | | soralsokal
mydomain.com/category-for-major-keyword Now when people like to link to me, what should I do? Shall they link to: mydomain.com or mydomain.com/category-for-major-keyword What brings me more in terms of ranking for that keyword with my category? Thanks, Robin1 -
Rel=canonical "redirects" to double links
Our devs have set up rel=canonical on our website. First they used relative links href="/dir1/dir2/dir3" for the page http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/?detail1=1?detail2=2 meaning that it will redirect to http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3, but no luck, the MOZ dashboard showed the tag value to be http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/dir1/dir2/dir3, then we have decided to rewrite the code, and now the canonical to http://wwwmysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/?detail1=1?detail2=2 looks like href="http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/" but the tag on MOZ looks like http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3. So what is the problem? I really got a problem or MOZ does? The code on website looks exactly like href="http://www.aaa.com/en/bbb/ccc/vvv/nnn/" rel="canonical" /> for the page http://www.aaa.com/en/bbb/ccc/vvv/nnn/

Viewing past campaign reports
This is a basic SEOmoz question - Is there a way to view past campaign reports? I haven't manually "archived" any of my reports, because I didn't realize that may be important so it seems I might be out of luck on this. i would like to compare old reports to current ones and can't find a way to access the old reports.

OSE vs google webmaster link data
Hiya experts, I am trying to understand the OSE. One thing I noticed is that OSE shows 12 linking root domains to our site. However, google webmasters show more than 90(that have kinks to pages on our site). And these are not new links, some of these date back to Apr 2011. Is there something very obvious I am missing here? Thanks for your help. Regards, Raman.
