Do you think it's a good idea to try to find synergy between clients for blog posts/citations/links, or should you keep clients away from each other?
-
Say you have for example three (in this case) clients, and:
- Client A sells red widgets
- Client B is a doctor
- Client C sellls blue widgets
With some research, you find that:
- Red widgets (A) can make the process of blue widget creation (C) even more effective.
- Red widgets (A) can protect you from harmful things that doctors (B) are qualified to recommend that you stay away from.
- Furthermore, there are things that doctors (B) recommend that you do in order to maximize the benefits of red widgets (A)
- Blue widgets (C) carry with them certain potential health risks, which according to doctors (B) can be minimized using the following means
- Sometimes blue widgets (C) can be used to effectively repair red widget (A) factories
...and so forth.
Sure you're really writing these articles to generate links and exchange authority, and frankly you started with "how can I find synergy between these clients?" rather than a with a great article subject that needed a citation which luckily happened to be another client, but the citations are legitimate and the clients are qualified to speak on the subjects where their expertise and interests overlap.
Would you consider going ahead with this? Does anyone have any experience doing it? I could see potential pitfalls if clients were to interact with each other, but keeping yourself as the intermediary might well work and overall it seems like a decent way to grab low-hanging fruit as they say. What do you guys think?

Thanks EGOL, Kevin and Alan - that last mention from EGOL is along the lines of what I am worried could happen because of the motivations behind the posts, which is to cite each other.
Their authority on the subjects where they intersect is legitimate - but these articles would be generated because of those intersections. If I didn't have a blue widget client then the red widget client would have little impetus to write a blog post that extols blue widgets. Even though there's nothing in the posts that isn't true and all clients are qualified authorities to be cited as described. It's just that the posts would be written because the SEO guy (me) sat down and said "how can these clients cite each other legitimately?" rather than red widget guy writing an article on blue widgets and then being lucky enough to have someone (me) who can put them in touch with a blue widget company to cite and be cited by.
They're all on different IP's so that should be okay.
I think I'm going to go ahead with this but I'll tread lightly as recommended. Thanks again, thumbs up for all!

I think that this could balloon into problems if you are not careful. Google might be able to detect a link network if you have a lot of Doctor articles out there on various sites serving as "mules" that carry optimized links for "red widgets" and "blue widgets".
-
The only issue I see here is that you said "clients." Are these clients of yours all hosted on the same server with the same IP? Google does take this into account, notably to punish server farms and the like. I'm not exactly sure what levels of cross-linking will count for or against you, but I imagine these sites are relatively small with low domain authority so it shouldn't be an issue.
I might consider posting the doctor's articles on reputable medical sites and then link your clients' sites to articles on these bigger sites with higher domain authority. Try to get your wine articles on other wine related sites as well. You can also try using Zemanta to help with getting more people to link to this content.
-
Where would you see pitfalls? If you've done good work for multiple clients, and if, as you say, it's all above-board and legitimate opportunities, then I would definitely communicate the possible opportunity to the clients, then let them decide if they want to participate. If so, there's nothing wrong with this at all. But only as long as you keep it to legitimate implementation, and make it only one part of a larger effort all around.

Sitewide links from affiliates. Good or bad?
We have 14 affiliate sites that have a sitewide banner linked to one of our pages. The banner link is "follow" and contains an alt text that includes a brand name and a keyword. Are these links harming us, or creating value? We were hit by Panda 2.0 - do you think it might be the reason?

Reposting Blog posts on 3rd party sites
We have a few informational blog posts that are valuable to some readers. We have posted them in our blog but were contemplating posting them on 3rd party blogging websites such as Blogger, Squidoo, etc.. Ideally we would continue to maintain these accounts with multiple blog posts, but would all be reposts of the original blog. These are not half english blog posts just hoping to gain a better Google rank. They will provide value to the readers who might not be finding their way to our website directly. Is posting these blog posts on the 3rd party websites, linking back to the original article and maybe some products that are related to the specific document going to negatively affect our rankings due to the duplication of the content?

Wordpress blogs and link generation
So I'm working on cleaning up our backlink profile and discovered that a few of our blogs are clogging things up... Google reports that one in particular is responsible for 454 links...
Link Building | | jesse-landry
So I ran a quick sitemap to try and get a better understanding where these are coming from and discovered that all of the stupid tags and categories that the former marketing person posted her blogs to were creating new pages and counting new links from the footer found on each. So there were 370 pages counted by the sitemap generator. This explains why all the links. Now my questions 1.) how hurtful are all these links? 2.) what's the best way to handle links on company-sponsored blogs.. in sidebar widgets or embedded in the text? 3.) what is the purpose of those categories and tags? My boss seems to think they help in SEO efforts but I am insisting they are worthless and would like to remove them all. He thinks we should keep a couple per post... bleh Any advice here would be lovely. Thanks0 -

Link Building by Guest Posting.... But How many posts?
Hello I am a small Computer/Tech Blogger (part time) from India and following are my Domain stats: PR: 4 Alexa Rank: 65K *** Open Site Explorer Page Authority: 46/100** *** Open Site Explorer Domain Authority: 35/100** *** Open Site Explorer Linking Root Domain: 98** *** Open Site Explorer Total Links: 1196** *** mR: 4.83** *** mT: 5.81** Domain Age: 3 Years and 4 Months Blog Posts I made: around 580 I never spent ANY time in Link Building, only wrote content for my blog. I only attached my Blog URL in some BIG forums as a signature (never meant for link building, but later found that the signature section of some forums are DOFOLLOW) and very few sites linked/links to me/my articles. Reasons why I am asking question here: Majority of my blog posts ranks very well (top 10) on Google.co.in, but on Google.com, most of them are present from Page 2 - Page 10 - I want to rank my posts well on Google.com, Google.co.uk etc. SERP of Big sites remains static, but my position shuffles a lot. Sometimes any particular blog post of mine is on first page (on a particular Google Domain) and after some days/months, it shifts to 2nd or 3rd page! This happens a lot! As soon as Google Updates pagerank, many recent articles of mine will get atleast PageRank 2 or 3, but when pagerank in updated again, the pagerank of these very same articles drops! Very few articles of mine have static pagerank I am not a master in Computers/Tech and am not the first one on the internet to discover and write something UNIQUE/NEW, but I try to write detailed and good quality tutorials. If main keywords of my posts matches with the keywords of BIG domains, I never rank on first page, no matter I have written more detailed content compared to the content of these BIG sites! Google sends me traffic to majority of my blog posts by means of random keywords! I have decided to do Guest Posting on some blogs of similar niche and with Open Site Explorer Domain Authority ranging from 60 to 80. I will try my level best to write good content for them and they also allows Author Bio with a backlink to my Blog Homepage (in my case, the anchor text for this link will be my Blog Name) I want to ask following questions: Is one guest post with a backlink to my Homepage is enough? or I have to write more content for same domain? I have heard that, if you link to a website/blog which is linking to you, Google don't pass any juice to either of them because of reciprocal linking! - Is this true? The websites on which I am planning to do guest posts are very well established and trusted websites. Some of them have Open Site Explorer Domain Authority of 80+. Also, I never linked to them nor I am planning to do so! I request SEO Gurus here to please help me and I apologize in advance if I am wrong at any point. MY SEO concepts are not much clear and I am a newbie 🙂 Thanks and Regards

Too many external links vs linking root domains - good or bad?
Hi guys, After the latest Linkscape update, we noticed that our website have 424,671 external links with 4,395 linking root domains, so roughly 100 links/domain. Does Google consider this to be a negative thing or we do not need to worry about it. Many thanks. David

Linking for multiple clients
We own a small web design company that both creates the sites and then does the seo marketing for them once they are created. The business has grown to have over 100 customers. However, as we sell more sites we find our SEO team is somewhat short staffed. So far, the area that suffers the most is the link building aspect of SEO. The sites we build are for dentists and usually only contain 10 to 20 pages. Enough to list the services they offer and where they are located. Here is my question: We need to get the most effective links possible for over 100 sites with just a couple of employees. What would be the most effective links to try for. We cant chase down every stray link for our doctors. And, we don't have time to do in-depth research for each client each month as we are already pushing ourselves to the limit. In time, we will have more employees to help share the SEO load. But for now, where should we be spending our time most effectively? We can usually only budget one or two hours per client each month for linking. Thanks for any advice you can offer.
