Should we get a new domain that has our main keyword in it.
-
We have been running our site about 10 years under the domain www.islesurfboards.com and we are referred as "Isle Surfboards" when linked to in the anchor text. Our core product line and keyword focus has always been on "surfboards" and its related long tail keywords.
However in the last several years we have began to sell "paddle boards" and now they have become our best selling product accouting for 80% of our business. We really want to rank well for "paddleboards" and related words but noticed we always seem to fall below people who have websites with "paddleboard" or "sup" in the domain and company name.
will they always rank better unless we also inlcude it in ours?
Should we move to a New Domain that focuses on the new target keyword "paddleboard" or a combo of both "surfboards" and "paddleboards"and would this make any difference or even hurt us since it would be a new domain.
Then in addition rebrand our company name to include surfboards and/or paddleboards in the company name or some combo of both so the anchor text when people who refer to us relate to both paddle boards and surfboards?

Hi Marc,
I 1st want to discuss something way more important that I just found is this your blog
http://www.islesurfboardsblog.com/home/ ?
you have a 3rd domain
that you using as a gallery now I can let you without a doubt this is hurting your SEO beyond what you could imagine
Your blog must be on the same domain if you want credit for it. Can we talk in private chat?
http://www.islesurfboardsblog.com/home/
you have a lot of domains on 1 website that makes this very difficult to fix. If you want to chat I am more than happy to give you advice for free as to what I would do if I were you. You can private message me here here's more information try using screaming frog SEO it's where I got this information here
https://blueprintmrk.sharefile.com/d/s7646c07de7a4ff3a
is not okay it will not help you at all I can get this sorted out for you in a matter of days and permanently fixed and would be happy to tell you exactly how I will go about doing it for free. Please private message me so we can talk.
Now for instance one of the most important things are links inbound or outbound not exceeding 100 per page
I Know an external link is often referenced as an outbound link I apologize for that more descriptive. Any external outbound link from your website to another website
For instance if you are going to type in example.com is great for examples check them out at http://www.example.com on your own website that would be considered an outbound or external link.
I can see how it is confusing because inbound links are also "external"
http://www.seomoz.org/q/is-having-too-many-outgoing-external-links-bad
http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2008/10/linking-out-often-its-just-applying.html
http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/how-many-links-per-page/
and external link can be seen on your website right here
This tool will show you how many inbound and outbound links there are total those are external links I tend to think of external links is outgoing however you are correct I should've been more clear about what I meant I mean outgoing links outbound
http://linkcounter.submitexpress.com/
Now this is important your page rank is 4 if you were to lower your links from 300 per page I just made that number up so please keep that in mind. To 100 links per page this is what you would get
this is information from your website being audited by tool that will tell if you're losing “link juice” the link was extremely long so I had to shorten it
Unfortunately you have 404's similar to this showing up in that tool
as you can see from my example above their extremely long so I've had to shrink them again here's another 404 page
know an extra link is a link from your website to another website for instance if you are going to type in example.com is great for examples check them out at http://www.example.com on your own website that would be considered an outbound or external link.
I can see how it is confusing because inbound links are also quote external
http://www.seomoz.org/q/is-having-too-many-outgoing-external-links-bad
http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2008/10/linking-out-often-its-just-applying.html
http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/how-many-links-per-page/
and external link can be seen on your website right here
you have only a total of 101 inbound links according to Alexia
http://www.alexa.com/site/linksin/islesurfboards.com
you need a site audit which I would happily do for you these are external links but it seems like we have a bigger problem than just external outbound links we have a really big mess that I would be happy to help you clean up.

wait, im confused, i thought an external link is a link from an outside website to yours and this is what you do want?
http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/external-link
Why would having alot of external links be bad?
-
the reason you don't want a lot of external links is because your website gives credit to other websites and it takes away from your "link juice" or makes you look like a directory. You should put no follows on most external links unless needed. The amount of internal links you have per page I would recommend a complete web site overhaul. But that's just my opinion I would have it audited at Alexa or Yost before actually paying the money for new website. However if you do need help with one let me know on more than happy to fix the problems.

ok, sounds good. for the external followed links you mentioned we have alot we need to no follow external links? what does this mean?

You have switched your title tag to have
URL http://www.islesurfboards.com/ 30Page
Title Isle Paddle Boards & Surfboards | San Diego, CA Since 2004 that is 58 characters long and starts with Isle not Paddle Boards as it should. You don't need to put your business in the most important spot the 1st spot unless your Federal Express or somebody big like that
your title should read "Paddle Boards | Surfboards | Isle"
that will get you the most Attn: to paddle boards without losing your surfboard or Isle name in your title.
Your description text is too long as well. You want to make that under 150 characters
unlike the description you have may be get the word online out of their
You can cut "to your doorstep."
"Order online today with Free USA shipping to your doorstep."
You could change it to this
Order on our site today free shipping USA
you want to save some space read write the tag so does the real description of everything you do in 150 characters I know that that's not very easy
|
"Choose from a massive selection of paddle boards, inflatable paddle boards, surfboards, standup paddles and surfing accessories. Order online today with Free USA shipping to your doorstep.

you need to blog and to focus on branding. Company to a lot of stories about people using their power boards and loving them use Wistia's excellent video to get links and tell your company story. You can get discount on Wistia from SEOmoz perks if you need something a little less expensive try Vimeo Pro it's $199 a year where the others are around $70 a month for white label Wistia is give you 3 free non-white label but still awesome videos.
Wistia, Vzaar and Brightcove your site speed was 5 seconds it's not the worst ever but you need to get it down to around 2 in addition you can add a content delivery network to speed up your site and let you host your own video I recommend if you on to be able to make videos just like you can with these hosted video brands above you use CDN77 is as an absurd amount of pops and will speed up your site
Here is a CVS of the info below it not easy to cut and paste but you're doing alright

Hi Marc,
do not move your website to new domain Google has devalued exact match domains so much that it would be worthless. In comparison to your already proven friendly on spammy domain if you simply change your title tag to say "paddleboards" and not surfboards you will get the attention from Google you're looking for.
Don't get caught up trying to do the same thing with 2 domains because Google gives credit to domains that are older and have stated malware and spam free. The advantage you will have from inbound links and a solid reputation will get you ranked for paddle boards in no time if you follow these instructions below.

Don't forget to write content in your blog I hope you have a blog. If you don't start one but wright content about paddle boards
I hope I've been of help,
Thomas

Domain name in URL
Hi we are targeting local cities across the UK with landing pages for our website. We have built up a few links for https://www.caffeienmarketing.co.uk/bristol/ and recently advised that I should change the URL to https://www.caffeienmarketing.co.uk/marketing-agency-bristol/ and 301 directing the old one 2 questions really: 1. is there any benefit in doing this these days in that this is the main keyword target we have for this page? 2. Do I get 100% benefit for all the links built up on the old page

Client wants a seperate .tv domain for their media/videos instead of a subdomain/subfolder. What is the best way to pass of link equity to a new domain?
We have a client that wants to place their video content on a .tv tld instead of a subfolder/subdomain in their .com website. They believe that the .tv domain will better represent the media experience of their business. We can understand this client's position however we are concerned about their .tv domain will lose out on the link equity if it were no longer placed in the .com's subdomain/subfolder. Here are our questions: 1. What would be the best way to pass of link equity from .com website to a new .tv domain? Should we just have a video link on the .com website that 301 directs to the new .tv domain? 2. Is there any SEO benefit of having a .tv domain for Google Video queries or even Youtube? 3. Is there any long term value of having two different websites? For link equity purposes we understand that it would be better if everything was in a .com. However is a .tv domain ideal for a better representation of their media content? We appreciate any feedback.

Rankings disappeared on main 2 keywords - are links the issue?
Hi, I asked a question around 6 months ago about our rankings steadily declining since April of 2013. I did originally reply to that topic a few days ago, but as it's so old I don't think it's been noticed. I'm posting again here, if that's an issue I'm happy to delete. Here it is for reference: http://moz.com/community/q/site-rankings-steadily-decreasing-do-i-need-to-remove-links Since the original post, I have done nothing linkbuilding-wise except posting blog posts and sharing them on Facebook, G+ and Twitter. There are some links in there which don't look great (ie spammy seo directories, which I'm sending removal requests to) although quite a lot of others are relevant. Here's my link profile: <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=www.thomassmithfasteners.com</a> I've tried to make the site more accessible - we now have a simple, responsive design and I've tried to make the content clear and concise. In short, written for humans rather than search engines. As of the end of November, 'nuts and bolts' has now disappeared completely, and 'bolts and nuts' is page 8. There are many pages much higher which are not as relevant and have no links. We still rank highly for more specialised terms - ie 'bsw bolts' and 'imperial bolts' are still page 1, but not as high as before. We get an 'A' grade on the on-page grader for 'nuts and bolts, and most above us get F. I was cautious about removing links as our profile doesn't seem too bad but it does seem as if it's that. There are a fair few questionable directories in there, no doubt about that, but our overall practice in recent years has been natural building and link earning. So - I've created a spreadsheet and identified the bad links - ie directories with any SEO connotations. I am about to submit removal requests, I thought two polite requests a couple of weeks apart prior to disavowing with Google. But am I safe to disavow straight away? I say this as I don't think I'll get too many responses from those directories. I am also gradually beefing up the content on the shop pages in case of any 'thin content' issues after advice on the previous post. I noticed 100s of broken links in webmaster tools last week due to 2 broken links on our blog that repeated on every page and have fixed those. I have also been fixing errors W3C compliance-wise. Am I right to do all this? Can anyone offer any suggestions? I'm still not 100% sure if this is Panda, Penguin or something else. My guess is Penguin, but the decline started in March 2013, which correlates with Panda. Best Regards and thanks for any help, Stephen

Does using a sub-domain lessen the effectiveness of your main domain?
For example a website without a blog and is a simple html site with no blogging capabilities. We go out to Blogger or Wordpress and set up the blog portion of the website using something like blog.yourdomain.com. Does this make a difference SEO wise? Is is more effective to be sure that you are using the main domain and not a sub-domain? I have heard both sides before but can't seem to find the concrete answer. Thanks for any advise out there.

Multi domain redirect to single domain
Hello, all SEOers. Today, I would like to get some ideas about handling multiple domains. I have a client who bought numerous domains under purpose of prevent abuse of their brand name and at the same time for future uses. This client bought more than 100 domains. Some domains are paused, parked, lived and redirected to other site. I don't worry too much of parked domains and paused domains. However, what I am worrying is that there are about 40 different domains are now redirected to single domain and meta refresh was used for redirections. As far as I know, this can raise red flag for Google. I asked clients to clean up unnecessary domains, yet they want to keep them all. So now I have to figure out how to handle all domains which are redirect to single domain. So far, I came up with following ideas. 1. Build gateway page which shows lists of my client sites and redirect all domains to gateway page. 2. Implement robots.txt file to all different domains 3. Delete the redirects and leave it as parked domains. Could anyone can share other ideas in order to handling current status? Please people, share your ideas for me.

Sub domain versus separate domains, which is better for Search engine purposes?
We are pitching to a hotel client to build two new websites, a summer website and a winter website, two completely different looking websites. The client wants to automatically switch their domain name to point to one or the other, depending on the time of year. The customer does not want to use a landing page where you would choose which site to visit; they want the domain name to go directly to the relevant website. Our options: Set up two new domain names and optimise each website based on the holiday season and facilities offered at that time of year. Then change the exisiting domain name to point at the website that is in season. Or Use the existing domain name and setup two sub domains, switching the home page as necessary. We have been chewing this one over for a couple of days, the concern that we have with both options is loss of search visibility. The current website performs well in search engines, it has a home page rank of 4 and sub-pages ranking 2 and 3’s, when we point the domain at the summer site (the client only has a winter website at present) then we will lose all of the search engine benefits already gained. The new summer content will be significantly different to the winter content. We then work hard for six months optimising the summer site and switch back to the Winter site, the content will be wrong. Maybe because it's Friday afternoon we cannot see the light for the smoke of the cars leaving the car park for the weekend, or maybe there is no right or wrong approach. Is there another option? Are we not seeing the wood for the trees? Your comments highly welcome. Martin

Keyword Rich Domain Redirects to Brand Name But How Will SEO Work For It?
If i have a keyword rich domain name, but i redirect it to a brand domain name, will doing seo for the keyword rich domain name be effective in showing up on google under that domain, for the keyword i do SEO for? or does this cause a conflict for spiders/robots as soon as they realize the page they want to check out is getting redirected to another domain name?
