Guest Posting Good or Too Spammed in 2013
-
Hi,
Some of the Gurus and Associates have indicated that guest posting is the "Directories of today."
There are some posts from last year about this in the Q&A, but what is the most recent thought if guest posting on quality sites should be avoided?
Thanks.

Hi Bob,
I am glad your happy with the answers.
Sincerely,
Thomas

Fantastic responses! And thanks Francisco for the great Matt Cutts video. We'll stick to quality sites and write quality articles.

Mousa,
well said again confirming if you can write something of value on a site that is not junk or spam than do your best make it worth it and don't go for the crazy anchor text Google is to powerful and to all seem to waste time trying to trick it just understand Google wants what the user wants high-quality content relevant to what they're searching for.
If you can help add to that Google likes if you try to trick Google into thinking you did that Google will punish you. If you don't try and make junk Google will rank it as junk.

Francisco,
thumbs up buddy. That's exactly what I was talking about I used YouMoz as an example because they will not take spawn or low-quality content. They're pretty picky. just like all search engine optimization anything can be overdone and done incorrectly. I am writing a blog post for youmoz I have spent 7 days on making sure everything is right getting every little detail but I could ever think of and then sleeping on it to make sure I did not leave something out. This is how you see excellent writers ( I'm not an excellent writer) crank out a 2000 page masterpiece in a day Dan Shure for instance every blog of his is outstanding unique and informative no tricks. Would anybody turn him down for a guest post no they'd be crazy to. I like how Matt Cutts stated the bare minimum of 300 words that could release means Google is looking for more and that's what we should do. If it makes sense for the blog which most likely it does.
all the best,
Thomas

I like how to explain the question by mentioning “if guest posting on quality sites should be avoided” I guess it’s more like article submission… you write a post and you submit it to some shitty blog which you can only mention in your link file that you can show to your client but in real there is no or very low value of links… and after some time you will see Google will start marking as negative so you will get hurt instead of getting advantage from guest posting links if quality sites should be avoided.
hope this helps~

it is like real estate location location location.
Guest posting is not at all a black hat tactic in fact it's something done on SEOmoz through YouMoz every day and that is 100% legit and if it is done in a manner such as is done on this network of course it is fine for you to go out and give your opinion on something on someone else's website. Do not try to use tricky anchor text do not do anything that would be sketchy and you will be all set.
The people getting bad juju from guest posting are the ones giving bad guest posts within content and no purpose but for the link or doing it from a site that Google thinks is less than okay.
I hope I have been of help to you,
Thomas

Is a rootserver that has previously been used for porn and spam a problem for SEO?
As we found out via Alexa we are hosting our website on a server that has been used under the same IP heavily mostly for pornsites. Will this become a problem for our webproject? By the way: We are not in the porn-sector. We are an NGO with an alternative social media project for a better world. Thanks for your help.

Is it a good strategy to link older content that was timely at one point to newer content that we would prefer to guide traffic and value to
Hi All, I've been working for a website/publisher that produces good content and has been around for a long time but has recently been burdened by a high level of repetitious production, and a high volume in general with pages that don't gather as much traffic as desired. One such fear of mine is that every piece published doesn't have any links pointing to when it is published outside of the homepage or syndicated referrals. They do however have a lot (perhaps too many) outbound internal links away from it. Would it be a good practice, especially for new content that has a longer shelf life, to go back to older content and place links pointing to the new one? I would hope this would boost traffic via internal recircultion and Page Authority, with the added benefits of anchor text boosts.

Would changing permalink structure of 7,500 articles be good or bad?
Morning everyone, I'm the tech at a large men's lifestyle publisher and we're currently running the old /year/month/ URL structure in Wordpress. Now I've read countless articles about pro's and con's of month date vs post type formats (/2016/06/sample-post/ vs /sample-post/) and considering we produce both evergreen and daily news content we're stuck with making a decision. Currently we receive about 10,000 organic referrals per day (has been stuck at this for 12 months) but considering we have 7,500 articles, have 10 full-time staff and have been around for close to 7 years we think we're underperforming. Now providing we 301 redirect every old article to the new structure is there any other reason not to do this change? Any advice would be appreciated. Axps36D

Multiple 301 redirects for a HTTPS URL. Good or bad?
I'm working on an ecommerce website that has a few snags and issues with it's coding. They're using https, and when you access the website through domain.com, theres a 301 redirect to http://www.domain.com and then this, in turn, redirected to https://www.domain.com. Would this have a deterimental effect or is that considered the best way to do it. Have the website redirect to http and then all http access is redirected to the https URL? Thanks

Client has been COPYING blog posts to wordpress.com for years. Now what?
Just discovered my client has been copying all her blog posts over to her wordpress.com blog account. So she has duplicate content to what is on her site. She has roughly 700 posts on her main site but doesn't look like that many on the wordpress site. There are no inbound links coming off the wordpress site that I could find. Here's an example: http://thevanillaqueen.wordpress.com/2013/01/30/is-canola-oil-a-healthy-choice/ http://vanilla.com/is-canola-oil-a-healthy-choice/ What are you recommendations for what should be done? Thanks!

Linking Strategies 2013 - Regular Routines/ Tips
So, what is the latest linking strategies and the best practices for the new year? I'm looking to start a clean, fresh website and would love to implement a great new strategy or tactics that really work with the right amount of effort. Is there a guide available? Preferably from website on-page optimization all the way to a regular routine of what to do. I know it won't be easy, but that's why I love the ever changing world of SEO!

Help, really struggling with fixing mistakes post-Penguin
We had previously implemented a strategy of paying for lots of links and focusing on 3 or 4 keywords as our anchors, which used to REALLY work (I know, I know, bad black hat strategy - I have since learned my lesson). These keywords and others have since plummeted up to 100 spots since Panda 3.3 and Penguin. So I'm trying to go in and fix all our mistakes cuz our domain is too valuable to us just to start over from scratch. Yesterday I literally printed a 75 page document of all of our links according to Open Site Explorer. I have been going in and manually changing anchor text wherever I can, and taking down the very egregious links if possible. This has involved calling and emailing webmasters, digging up old accounts and passwords, and otherwise just trying to diversify our anchor text and remove bad links. I've also gone into our site and edited some internal links (also too weighty on certain keywords) and removed other links entirely. My rankings have gone DOWN more today. A lot. WTF does Google want? Is there something I'm doing wrong? Should we be deleted links from all private networks entirely or just trying to vary the anchor text? Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks!
