Value of certain directory links
-
I am looking at the links to a competitors site and they have a ton of links from things like this http://www.directoryws.com/ Is it worth submitting to something like this? It has a 58 domain authority from Moz.
-
Two things:
1. While it's a a good idea to reverse engineer your competition, you don't always want to duplicate them. Has the site been ranking highly for a while? If not, you may not want to copy their links.
2. In my opinion there are literally 10-20 directories worth the time and effort. Remember: it's all about looking natural. And nothing looks LESS natural than getting 100s of directory links.
Here are some of my favorite directories:
Free:
DMOZ (good luck)
Paid:
Yahoo! Directory (expensive but worth it)
Hope that helps!

How Sites Obtain Authority
To obtain authority (long-term), you need to silo your website (google that term for a complete description) with keyword researched content. The best strategy is to build links (niche directories and communities) to those inner pages that have specific types of content that cannot be featured on the home page. That content should be very engaging with a strong click to action for the reader. They could opt-in further to your content, if ecommerce a discount on a product, etc.
How To Build Directory Links
The biggest deal to building manual links to directories is to be random! Post Penguin 2012, you want to avoid duplication and automated link building and exact anchor matches. If you do decided to do some exact anchor text, only do it a few times a month. Also you don't need a ton of the same type of links featuring exact anchor either. This year and in the future "semantic" will eventually determine what your site is about and hook your content up with the correct searches.
Tips For Link Building With Directories - What To Do
With that said, hand pic the top directories (some free, some paid, some premium, local, and niche related). Make your self a road-map for the first three months and configure a good mix of each with intent to submit up to 5 or 10 depending on your niche and try to use your brand name as the anchor. Also when you do your keyword research and decide on the top seed keyword (two keyword terms usually), come up with 100 (if you can) different variations (should also try to match your website's message or content, goes for the home page and all inner pages) variations of that "seeded" keyword. Use those anchors in rotation and you should be fine.
Extra Tips
*also try to start with premium directories first
*this strategy is long-term and if you add this with good content development and syndication services or software to help distribute the content; you'll get the links that will carry your website long-term.
Hopes this helps.

Internal links: How do I find keywords that are not linked to a URL?
Hi Moz members I'd really like to place an internal link of every instance of an important keyword phrase "cycling caps" or "cycling cap" to my eComm category page
Link Building | | andystorey
https://www.prendas.co.uk/collections/headwear/cotton-caps I feel this would not only help my customers browsing my store, but I believe it will help from an SEO perspective. How can I search my site using Moz, Screaming Frog, Google etc to find every time cycling cap(s) is used but is not linked to the above URL? I can then apply the same for cycling jerseys, socks, etc Andy0 -
Are links from charities really better than 'normal' links.
Hi Guys. Just wondering about this idea that links from Charities are particularly good. I've heard people say that links from .org sites are particularly strong. But anyone can get a .org domain, it's just that charities tend to use them more often. Right? I just don't get the logic. Can anyone give more detail about this? Is it a myth? Is there quality info on this topic I can check out? We're working with several charities at the moment, and they all seem happy to blog and link to us...so I just wanted to know a little more. Isaac.

Do links from between common sites you run count as "bad" links?
Hi everyone,
Link Building | | AMA-DataSet
Iv recently been asked to review a group of sites. There are 3 sites, each of these sites has a link to the other two sites within the footer or the navigation.
These site are about a similar topic each provides a different perceptive or aims at a specific section of the industry so its not like the links are to irreverent sites. However because the links are in a global section they are repeated thousands of times on each site and count for a large proportion of the link profile to each site, I don't think this is good practise and I want to remove them or at least add a no-follow but my client insists they are relevant to each other and doesn't not want the links removing. What would be best in this situation? remove them? no-follow them? or leave them? Thank you in advance,

If i get link pointing to a specific page , will that link add up to the count of linking root domains too ?
If I create a fresh link pointing to specific page on my site, apart from adding a number to "page linking root domains" does it also add up to root domain linking ?

Resource linking
Is a resource linking page a good way to build backlinks? Do I need to ask permission of the site I am linking? & If do build a resource page do I have to keep in mind keyword density rule, not to stuff too many links on page? I see one of my competitors using a "resource page" and linking to some high athority sites, (which I know they have not asked permission) b/c they are big name site, NFL, NHL, ESPN etc. Any suggestions much appreciated!
