One Webpage per Topic or splitting up for better reading...?
-
What is better from a SEO-Point of View:
I am building right now a website where the principal topic is Renewable Energies.
There will be a menu listing all kinds of Energy-types:
- Biogas
- CSP
- Biomass
- etc.
And now my question: Each Topic has about 800-1000 Words of unique content with sub-topics. I think its certainly good to have for each energy type one separate page. But I think its no a good Idea to split also the subtopics up to further sub-pages like:
- www.energy.com/renewable-energies-biomass-eficiency.html
- www.energy.com/renewable-energies-biomass-market.html
- www.energy.com/renewable-energies-biomass-industries.html
as 1000 Words on one page may look like better higher quality content than making 3-4 pages with just 200 Words... talking about Biomass, but from several points of views.
So I think its better to put all about Biomass on one single-page and use a menu just to jump to the subtopics via anchor-tags.
Right?
Thanks Kate and Charles!
Meanwhile I found out whats the right term for my question: "Pagination" I read about using the rel="next" and rel="prev" attribute when paginating an article over different pages.
MY DOUBT: Sometimes you see single page paginated by using javaScript that hides text although all is in the page source, for better reading. Does Google like that or might think it could be hidden text with spamming purpose? So I think using old school "named anchors" to divide text into topics (for text about 1000 words) is better than using javaScript that reaveals text via pagination or expand collapse.

First, don't worry so much about how much content is on the page. You should format your pages based on what works best for what the searcher is looking for. If there is demand for information on Biomass Industry types and there is enough content for a page, then create a separate page. If there isn't enough content for one of these pages, and it makes sense for the user to land on the more general page, do that.

How does Google handle read more tags in Wordpress
Hi Everyone I am wondering how Google handles the read more tag in Wordpress. I pasted the link to a blog post on Google and found nothing (domain.com/post#readmore). Then I paste the version without #readmore (domain.com/post) and found that Google indexed the page but with the option to click "read more" to read it. The full blog post is not in their index, just the version asking you to read more. Is this because Google hasn't gotten to it or is Google ignoring it. I am not sure but ideally I rather have the full blog post indexed, not the read more version. I am curious to whether this will cause duplicate content issues. What are your experience with this and is it advisable to use an alternate method for read more. Maybe with a Wordpress plugin. Thanks in advance.

Content hidden behind a 'read all/more..' etc etc button
Hi Anyone know latest thinking re 'hidden content' such as body copy behind a 'read more' type button/link in light of John Muellers comments toward end of last year (that they discount hidden copy etc) & follow up posts on Search Engine Round Table & Moz etc etc ? Lots of people were testing it and finding such content was still being crawled & indexed so presumed not a big deal after all but if Google said they discount it surely we now want to reveal/unhide such body copy if it contains text important to the pages seo efforts. Do you think it could be the case that G is still crawling & indexing such content BUT any contribution that copy may have had to the pages seo efforts is now lost if hidden. So to get its contribution to SEO back one needs to reveal it, have fully displayed ? OR no need to worry and can keep such copy behind a 'read more' button/link ? All Best Dan

Better to hyphenate URL or no?
Sea Glass Jewelry or Sea-Glass-Jewelry My domain name does not have my keyword in it, so I have been using the category as a means to get the keyword in the URL. My site would say www.abcdefghijk.com/sea-glass-jewelry/sterling-starfish-necklace When I run the review, it tells me that I have too many parameters. Is it too long? Should I remove hyphens? Which is better?

Is it better to have an hreflang go to the home page in a different language if there's no corresponding page
If I have some pages in English, but not in Spanish on my website: Should my hreflang go to the home page on the Spanish site? Or should I not have an "es-MX" hreflang for that page? Ideally I would have all the pages translated, but this has not all been done yet.

One or two keywords/pages
Hi, I have a question about good keyword practice. I have a page: http://www.holdnyt.dk/skader-karantaener/fodbold/england-premier-league It lists all injuries ("skader" in danish) and suspensions ("karantaener" in danish) for the english premier league in football/soccer. On the page one can choose to show only injuries OR suspensions, which have their own URLs: http://www.holdnyt.dk/skader-karantaener/fodbold/england-premier-league/skader http://www.holdnyt.dk/skader-karantaener/fodbold/england-premier-league/karantaener My question is - what is best. To optimize the first URL (the more general one) to fit both of the following keywords:

"skader premier league" and "karantaener premier league" OR should i focus on optimizing the two latter URLs, the more specfiic to target the two keywords. Regards, Rasmus0 -
Webpage with around 200+ inter links per page
HI, I have a client that I recently took on and I run a SEOmoz crawl on the website and a minor error was that .. 1. web pages have more than 200+ interlinks, reason for this is becuase the client offers a service to every place in the world and then has links to contact us/about us etc those kind of pages. is this something we need to strongly avoid? 2. The title tags are all over the suggested amount by 1/2 letters. - again is this really bad?
