Why? Keyword ranking on Google go under and down regularly
-
I have a group of keyword that constantly move within the Google SERP.
One week they are in the top 3 spots the next they fall down to position 7+ (in some cases they even fall 20 places) then after this they eventually go back to their most regular position within the top 3 spots.
Can anyone please explain why this keep happening?

Hi there. Sorry for late reply. Been busy
Answered from ipad - so structure was totally messed up in my reply. Sorry!
From SeoConsult.com:
"But it’s not until a recent study was conducted by SEO Moz that we realised just how much fluctuation was happening on a daily basis. On average 80% of SERPS (Search Engine Results Pages) that were tracked changed every 24 hours over a period of 30 days. Granted most of these changes were small (1 or 2 positions) but for someone who is on page 1 for their favourite keyword this can have a big effect, everyone knows there’s a huge difference from position 1 to position 3. 4 out of 5 SERPS change every day which shows just how dynamic the ranking game has become in 2012."
This sounds like normal fluctuation, but what you describe is more than that. I have not seen this myself, but perhaps everybody is working hard at SEO - hence changes are ongoing:
This could be relevant for you:

"So, Google may shift the rankings of your site, in what appears to be a random manner, before Google settles on a target rank"
Is it far fetched to believe that sometimes google "randomise" the fSERP to achieve more biased data to calculate from CTR?. If I had a hard time choosing which page to present for customers I would A/B-test it. Perhaps google is A/B-testing the SERP for your keyword?
By the way : I have keywords changing back and forward from 19 to 39 within a day. But I guess it is very different when it comes to first page SERP.
Update: During the last week your rankings have been pretty steady for both keywords:
Turnstiles steady at #4-5
Time and attendance Software at #18-19

Thanks for the reply:
I do a few things: Track within my SEOmoz campaign account, SEOpowersuite. Then when I manually check I use Google search incognito browser.
The keywords in question are Turnstiles it generally moves around the first 3 top spots of Google then some weeks falls down to position 7. (it's at 7 right now in Google.ie). The other term is time and attendance software (This fell from position 1 to 11). Again usually hangs around the top of Google.
Your thoughts are welcomed.

Do you solely track your SERP rankings through SEOMOZ, or do you test these rankings yourself on google?
I LOVE Seomoz-tools, but they have shown not to be quite precise all the time. So if a keyword drops rankings on Seomoz, i always test the SERP # on impersonal.me and ie. rankcheckerace.com.
That said some keywords are very volatile and can change within the hour. Can you post the site+keyword here?

Keyword Cannibalization
Good morning everybody! I have a page in my web site that it's optimized for two specific keywords. At the same time, in the same web site it exists an other page better optimized for one of this keyword, that it would obtain a better position in search engine. The problem is the famous "Keyword Cannibalization", Can you help me with any suggestion to address Google through this defined page when people searches this keyword. Thanks, Giulia

Rank Tracker Result Not Reflected In Google
I'm tracking keyword results in Rank Tracker, but I can't confirm the positions when I do a Google search for the tracked keywords. Does anybody know why RT says the site should be #23, but is not actually in Google? Is there a way to check Google results from different data centers? If I recall, Google allowed the option to view results from different cities, though I don't know if they still allow this.

Case study of site going up the rank
Is there a case study or an online article using good seo techniques (real examples) on how (preferably a small ) site started from point zero, employed good seo practices, moz tools, and went up the ranks? Some thing I can see as real example of taking the site from page 100 to page 1 rank? This would be great for my learning purpose. Thanks

What time to expect until onpage change is reflected in google ranking?
Most pages on our site are crawled by google about once per week. We plan to implement a new navigation structure with much more interlinks among our pages. I would like to test it first just for a few pages to measure impact. How long may it take approximately until an onpage change related to link structure is reflected in google rankings? Any experience?

Can I swap a website yet keep it's high ranking for a competitive keyword?
Couldn't fit the entire question in the main bit so the explanation is here: Working on a client's website which is hosted by volusion and also been doing SEO for them for about a year. Now we've finally got them ranking at the lower end of page 1 (around 10+) for their main keyword. They now want to move from volusion over to Amazon Web Store 😢 which seems to be an SEO nightmare from even my basic understanding of SEO. From looking at the coding and the way Amazon Web store is built on top of how restricted you are from doing anything with it, I am almost certain the shop will be extremely difficult to optimise and we will have to completely change nearly all of the content. Finally! the actual question; I was thinking I could get them to delay their move to Amazon webstore until they are ranking in the top 5 for this top keyword. Once they switch over, i assume they'll keep this ranking for at least a short while? This keyword attracts a high volume of traffic and if this traffic is clicking on the result for their website, and google sees that people are finding this website valuable (not clicking back onto google results). Will they be able hold onto this high ranking? Basically what I'm asking is, this will be a terrible outdated badly SEO'd shop, but if a high volume of people are clicking on it and staying on it from their lingering ranking will Google just let it stay at the top? A massive amount of gratitude in advance for anyone who tries to help with this! 😄

My PR 4 website won't rank for keywords that have very weak competition
I bought a real 1Yr old PR4 domain and used it to make a blog that would rank easily for new trending keywords (Ex: product launch keywords). I used Yoast SEO and made sure I did all the on-page recommendations it gave me and had linklicious ping the post and a couple high PR backlinks that I gave the page, but it won't even rank page 10 let alone index. My domain is indexed and the home page links to my post. I know a average amount of SEO but I hate doing it because stuff like this frustrates me. Can someone help me? Do I need to get certain backlinks? Is there a way to get my site and post to index faster? BTW the keywords i'm trying to rank for have websites that are brand spanking new some of them are blogspot websites. Most of them don't have a single backlink to them.

Is it better to use geo-targeted keywords or add the locations as separate keywords?
For example... state keyword (nyc real estate) or keyword, state (nyc, real estate) = 2 keywords Thanks in advance!

Google plus
"Google+ members, and to a lesser extent others who are signed into Google, will be able to search against both the broader web and their own Google+ social graph. That’s right; Google+ circles, photos, posts and more will be integrated into search in ways other social platforms can only dream about." What is meant by " and to a lesser extent others who are signed into Google" ? Does it mean that non-google plus members won't be able to view Google+photos, posts ?
