PR4 blog but no data in OSE?
-
I've recently been asked to guest post on a site that appears to be PR4 but when checking the sites authority on OSE no data shows up. The site is http://www.osozo.com. I'm looking for opinions really, first of all on how it can be PR4 but OSE has no data on it and secondly whether it's a good site for me to post on?
Any help much appreciated!

Hi Samuel,
Interesting question. Let me add a little bit to lbi-tr's answer.
A lot of times folks will buy old expired domains with high PageRank and try to use them for something else. If the links to these domains are on a part of the Internet that aren't very active, or hidden under layers of navigation, it's not uncommon to find little link data for them in Open Site Explorer.
In this case here's what we can find out (sorry if this repeats anything)
1. The site was for sale in 2011, based on a capture from the Wayback machine: http://web.archive.org/web/20110202101214/http://osozo.com/
2. Although OSE doesn't have any link data, Ahrefs shows some incoming domains, Most importantly is directory.supremohosting.com/, which 301 redirects to the site in question. This is likely where the PR 4 is coming from, and there is link data for this domain in OSE: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=http%3A%2F%2Fdirectory.supremohosting.com%2F
Unfortunately, the PR4 means almost nothing in this case. It's doubtful that the incoming link juice will help this site rank for anything at all. When a site changes hands and goes through major changes in content, search engines usually make the site "re-earn" it's rankings, despite what the toolbar PR says.
In general when you guest post, you want to ask:
- Is it relevant to your audience?
- Can you envision these articles in a newspaper or magazine?
- Would you trust this site with your credit card?

Thanks for your reply. Love the video response! Something didn't feel quite right about the site which is why I was seeking opinions. The guest post request did however come through MyBlogGuest but luckily I check the authority as a matter of course. So far I've had good success with it though. Onwards and upwards!

Hey Samuel,
Hope you are doing well. I have made a video response to you question. Hope it is what you are looking for.
Summary
1.Check the Majestic SEO historic index
2: check the site on Google with site: command
3. Use the way back machine to see if there is a cache of the site.
Findings
Site is not indexed in Google so the fact it has a PR 4 is worrying. It may be because the domain is almost 7 years old. It may be because of other things like the site has some other sites 301 redirected into it. It might be because the page rank hasn't been updated in months.
Actions
The site looks like a guest posting version of an article syndication site. I would stay away from this site and go to blogger link up or my blog guest for better sources.
Hope this helps.

Does Dofollow links from forumn profiles, blog comments, business directories or article directories etc have any impact?
Hi guys, So looking at my competitors in my city a lot of the people ranking on 2nd, 3rd pages and so forth have little or no quality backlinks, instead, their links are all from business directories, forum profiles and blog comments. I saw google employees saying easy to create links hold very little value and it's easy for the algorithm to distinguish been easy to obtain backlinks and difficult ones. From what I see on my competition backlink profiles, they may not get them to the front page but they do get them to pages, two three and four. I was wondering if creating say 20-30 easy links per week and also focus on obtaining high-quality backlinks. Would they be any penalties for 20-30 easy to make links a week from Google? Cheers

How new website / blogs can earn backlinks?
Hi, As link wheels, link pyramids and paid links are penalized by google and the only chance to get back links is to earn them. My Question is that with a new website / blog, how a newbie with no relationships with established bloggers, can earn links? Because writing quality contents and detailed posts (e.g. more than 3000 words posts twice a month) still would benefits for those blogs having already traffic to share these contents and in case of new blog, due to very low traffic, it would take months or years to enter in the game. Please propose step by step strategy / plan / footprint for newly born website and marketers. Thanks

Has anyone used Fat Joe as an outsource solution for blog links?
Hi guys, I have seen a company on social media a lot recently who offer a guest blog posting service. It seems to be reasonable quality from the reviews and the blurb they give as they at least seem to find you a relevant blogger to match up with, actually write good content with as many reviews as is needed and then post it to just that one page. I noticed on their site they have claimed that their service is Loved by Moz but I couldn't find any reference to them anywhere on the Moz site. My question is - has anyone used them and are the links going to be any good for my site?

Blog snippets on home page
Mozzes, We're running a real estate portal in which we have a pretty good news/blog section running on wordpress. It's placed into our LAMP site on a dash from our root URL: www.ourportal.com/news/ To attract traffic via our landing pages we publish article snippets from the blog, linked to the complete articles. What would be the optimal SEO here to lead the spiders to the orignal content? Follow, Noindex? Best Johan

Getting a link from a blog on every page querying what OSE is suggesting
Hi Guys My client has been offered a link from someone within their industry on their blog. The blog has 20 categories and multiple (hundreds if not more pages within each category). The owner of the website has said that would be happy to give my client a link on each of their pages (including their homepage). They have done this for another couple of people who they like before, so I typed these domains into OSE and noticed that for each page it shows a link and also the page authority. Domain Authority of this blog giving the link is 71 Home Page PA - 76 About us PA - 60 it goes on.........the least PA being shown is 52 so lets for arguements sake say the other 18 or say categories are PA of 52 too. My question is surely the OSE is not accurate to imply that my client could be passed page authority from 18 categories at 52 each + home page of 76 + about me page of 60? Hopefully you understand the point I'm trying to make

Blog traffic / link ratio? (Esimated of how much traffic will result in a link)
Hi, Was wondering if people could please tell me some estimates of how much traffic is likely to gain links to a blog post? For example 1,000 hits = 1 link, Hence 10,000 hits = 10 links to a blog post? I understand there is no magic ratio I just want to know what people have achieved. I’m after averages not just a one off really successful blog post too. Please specify the topic you achieve this in e.g. SEO, photography, business, heath... etc.

Too many links in my blog post created by comments. Should I worry?
Every year, we do a popular "Favourite pictures of the year" contest where people vote on the best picture (i.e: their mate's) in order to win something. But I just found that I'm going way over the "Too many links" limit and I think it's because of all the comments. 1. Is it a problem 2. Is there a way to de-activate the links? Thank you! 🙂 Ioan

How Long for Google Directory and Search.com to update with Current Dmoz.org Data?
So I recently had a site added to dmoz.org and I'm wondering if anyone knows when Google Directory & Search.com update their site with new Dmoz.org data? They both use dmoz.org for their directory listings. Regards,
