Can I track user journeys from a particular source?
-
We want to track users from a particular campaign to see what they do when they get to the site.
The site generates revenue from clicks out so we want to be able to see whether visitors from a particular source click on multiple deals. i.e. enters from the source and then clicks on 3 different deals that take the user to other sites. Using GA, can I track this by implementing UTM on both the campaign links and outgoing links? Can I see exactly how many deals the average user is clicking on?
As far as I know I can: Track visitors from the campaign Track overall clicks on deals Divide click outs by visitors
But I can't track how many deals the visitors from campaign A clicked on... or can I?

My pleasure! Glad I could help.

Hi Ralph. You should be able to accomplish this with Event Tracking in GA. See: http://code.google.com/apis/analytics/docs/tracking/eventTrackerGuide.html
From that page:
"In Event Tracking, each interaction with a tracked web page object is counted, and each interaction is associated with a given user session. In the reports, Total Events are calculated as the total number of interactions with a tracked web page object. On the other hand, where a single user session (or visit) has one or more events, this is calculated as a single Visit w/Event, or Unique Event in the reports.
For example, if one user clicks the same button on a video 5 times, the total number of events associated with the video is 5, and the number of unique events is 1."
Hope that helps.

Tracking Form Submissions to Source with WP
Hi all! I know that we can use conversion tracking in analytics to track form submissions by source, but when a specific form comes through for someone (say Susan Smith) who messaged us looking for info about product xyz...is there a way to connect the data so I can figure out exactly which source brough Susan specifically? Using Wordpress websites FYI. Thanks, Ricky

Customer journey / customer drop off
Hi All, I would like to understand how visitors navigate through my site and find out where the main drop out areas are (i.e. what pages / sections of the site do users leave on). I will then be segmenting by mobile, tablet, new visitor, returning etc. to see how the various subsets of users behave. To do this I generally do the following: Identify main sections of the (ecomm) site: homepage, category pages, product pages, cart, checkout 1, checkout 2, checkout x, payment confirmation. For each section above I either use a segment to isolate that section of the site, either by regex or a simple page selector and apply to the Audience >> Overview report and record the resulting session count. OR I filter the Behaviour >> Site Content >> All Pages report to isolate the various site sections and record unique pageviews. I then plot these figures horizontally under a heading for each section of the site representing a flow between the pages of the site with a calculation showing the difference between each section of the site which represents user drop off. Hope that makes sense. What I am interested to know is, do you have any better suggestions to the process laid about above. Do you see any issues with this process?

Track bounce rate per PPC keyword
Hi all Wondering if anyone could give me a nudge in the right direction with this please. When running an adwords campaign is there a way in which one can track the bounce rate on the landing page per keyword sending paid traffic? I've had a play about in adwords and GA and couldn't find the right option. The site I am sending traffic to is not a ecommerce site so cannot set up conversion tracking so we are going to monitor the bounce rates of different keywords and drop the ones which are bouncing much higher than others as it seems better to invest the budget in those words which are keeping people on the page for longer. Many thanks Carl

Can trackingcodes in your url be seen as duplicate content or break other rules?
I recently gave ReachLocal control to manage my Adwords campagne. I didnt want "Reverse Proxy" on so I decided to go with the Remote Conversion Tracking. So they track my website in every stap of the way. Therefor I had to place a Javascript on each page. But what worries me are these kind of URL's I see appearing in my Analytics account: /webpaginaname.html?scid+29903&cid=12343&tc+13012316371028544&rl_key=32850e0a2d4499e02a711d0b969044d2&kw+8307565&pub_cr_id=16701148613&dynamic_proxy=1&primary_serv=www.website.com&rl_track_landing_pages=1 Could this be seen as duplicate content by Google? Or could it break any other rule you know of? Should I be worried? Thanks a lot!

User Friendliness Bible: Has it been published yet?
I started with that intriguing title because that's all i've got. What I mean is, I don't know the exact topics that I am looking for. Anyways, here's the shindig. I was just replying to a nice new member to SEOmoz, and he asked if he should set up his 3 sites in 3 separate campaigns. I was telling him about the different number of keywords that comes with each respectable price, so I had to log out to be sure. Low and behold, not only did SEOmoz not kick me to a "You have been logged out" page (basically, it allowed me to continue, un-interrupted, and finish my thoughts), but it also did something MUCHHH better. LOL i'ma little giddy about it even. So, I typed a fun little response, added my links, and whatnot, and FORGOT that I had logged out to check the prices. Well, when I logged back in and clicked reply again, all of my text showed up in the editor (as a draft). I am wondering, what is the action of trying to think of cool ways to improve your site called? User Friendliness Optimization? User Engagement Optimization? User's Enjoyment of Using Your Site Optimization? ----insert metaphorically cloudy line here-------- Conversion Rate Optimization? At some point it does overlap with Conversion Rate Optimization, but either way, does anybody know of any cool tips to make people "enjoy" their time on your site more?
