Working with Wine & Spirits - SEO
-
Hello All,
I'm looking for an SEO contractor/agency who can start the SEO process here and has worked with wine and spirtis, foodie sites, or luxury. I'm having trouble finding this experience ion SEO. We're looking for a company that is willing to be tranparent in methods and show us the process. If anyone has referrals or input, I would love to hear it.
We are considered a start-up in the wine-industry and cannot devote 20 hours a month on this myself. Please chime in on your perpsective, advice.

Hello Adam,
Thank you for your input. Though I know tactics are the same across industries, I figured that having someone who has already done a keyword strategy multiple times with their head in the mind of a luxury buyer would be useful. I spoke to one company that had done minimal work for wine.com and thought it would be a very similar process, but in fact, wine.com is the opposite end of the spectrum. People searching on there are usually looking to get a deal, not our type of wine drinker. Our buyers are usually not looking for a cheaper deal but simply for access and an experience on site or in our tasting room.
Please feel free to add more information to my comments. I'm open to hearing opinions on this.

- If you're looking for an SEO to start the process and show you what to do, you'll need more than 20 hours per month to implement a serious SEO strategy.
- I have worked with a couple food/wine/luxury type sites, but I think industry experience is less important than other factors. SEO tactics are mostly the same across industries, and the goal is to showcase your industry expertise, not the SEO company's. I'm not saying industry experience isn't helpful, but it's definitely not the most important thing you should look for in a company. Probably the most important thing you should look for is a SEO company that does SEO by delivering value to users, and aims to pursue the spirit, not just the letter of Google's guidelines.
- My company, and many other good SEO companies, are happy to provide hourly consulting services. You just pay for as much or as little as you want.
I know this answer doesn't directly answer your question, but I hope it is helpful in some way!

Best Practices: Mobile & Desktop Ad Design for Adwords?
Is it possible to have Google Adwords display different page versions according to whether an advertisement will be displayed on a mobile or desktop device? We are a commercial real estate brokerage based in New York City. Most converting website use desktop rather than mobile. We are considering advertising on Google Adwords. Is it possible to have Google serve a more elaborate form of desktop landing page but have Google serve a stripped down version to mobile users? The stripped down version would be created using Instapage. From a technical perspective how would we create a more elaborate desktop version and have Google distinguish between the two? In our experience, mobile converts much less. How much less should we bid for keywords displaying on mobile? Thanks!

Better Graphic Design-Impact on SEO?
Will improving our site's graphic design but keeping identical structure, tags and text result in better Google? Are lower bounce rates greater time spent on a site by visitors rewarded by Google n the form of higher ranking? We are a commercial real estate brokerage firm in Manhattan and plan on making the following changes: -Much larger photos for listings

-Lighter cleaner design with more open white areas
-Use of more visible fonts
-Better forms
-Potentially less text and more emphasis on product, which in our case are real estate listints. Our existing site: w w w . m e t r o - m a n h a t t a n . com is a bit ordinary and uninviting. The redesign will have a concept similar to

The theme behind this real estate site is the city itself, which is quite clever and applicable to Manhattan. Our home page as well as other URLs use lots of text. If we reduce text and use more images to make the pages more engaging, will our organic ranking decline? If we reduce text can we compensate by fuller completion of meta tags? Any thoughts???0 -
IE & Edge issues with site relaunch - advice appreciated
Hi, I've been involved in a major ecommerce site relaunch, redesign and backend and have been involved in several successful ones before. On the whole things have gone great. Of course there are some minor bugs to fix, rendering issues etc but my real concern is a significant decline in conversion rate BUT only for IE and Edge users. All other major browsers conv rate has increased. Trawling through analytics and the site itself in those browsers there is no obvious sticking points e.g bounce rate has improved on all browser inc IE & Edge, no particular point in the funnel is suffering more than others, no particular page or landing page is doing much worse than others etc. it just seems like all the kpi's (except bounce) are down a little on the 2 microsoft browsers, which has a significant impact. One of the things that changed on relaunch is that we moved to https and im wondering if that might be causing an issue with IE / Edge security or privacy settings or that functionality on the site that relies on cookies is being affected, though in testing we haven't come across anything. I'd appreciate any advice or insight. Thanks, Andy

Email Campaign Tracking within Domain & Subdomains
What is the best process to track conversions/visits in Google Analytics when running an email campaign that links to both a sub-domain and then the main domain? To elaborate further, we have an email marketing campaign that directs users to a subdomain (e.g. promos.website.com) within the subdomain we include our products. Once a user clicks on the promos, they are taken to our main website (e.g website.product1.com). What is the best process to track conversions from this email campaign that leads users to the sub-domain first, then to the main site (where the conversions take place)? We have URL tagging in the Email Campaign - but not able to see the true conversions show up in Analytics on the main site. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Video Keno gambling SEO client !? Do I want em?
I have a guy who wants SEO help. Actually he owns several companies and is willing to put my ad before all the movies in a local theater plus an ad AND a Q&A section about SEO and Internet marketing in a small newspaper he mails to 7k businesses every month in exchange for my help. While I am excited about the exposure and I'm sure it would result in some business I'm not excited about touching anything related to gambling at ALL. Am I right in thinking this or should I treat it like just another client? He has a site where he teaches people how to win at video keno and sells this info packet. Porn and gambling. Everything I have read and heard is geared towards sites like this NOT coming up in search engines. Thoughts? Thanks and have an AWESOME week! Matthew

Ranking at 8, 9, & 15... Is this self-cannibalisation?
@ 8 is a blog about a youtube video review a customer made of the product. Blog title includes keyword @ 9 is the product page itself and includes a rich snippet video @ 15 is a blog about the product by an independent professional in the field - again the blog title contains the keyword. The page I want to rank highest is the product page which is currently at position 9. If it were you would you delete the keyword from the blog titles? Or is that just going to lose me those blog results and do little/nothing for the product page. Thanks EDIT: I should have said... both blog pages link to the product page and the keyword is the anchor.
