Best Keyword Tool
-
WE are a small Internet marketing agency and of need of a new keyword tool. We were using Market Sumeria but they lost access to Google.
What would you recommend? I'm not looking for a free service but a good service under $100 per month.

Thanks for your input.
Has anyone tried SE Cockpit? It is a bit expensive but seems to do a comprehensive job and uses data from SEOmoz.

I'm a huge fan of Long Tail Pro. It uses the GAKT to pull keyword data and then you can sort by a number of criteria to find the best keywords to target. They offer a Platinum level which is only $17/month and uses the SEOmoz API for determining keyword difficulty/competition. If you enjoyed Market Samurai, Long Tail Pro is quite similar but I actually prefer it over MS.

We try them all out from time to time. I would suggest that you do the same since what your needs are may be more specific for one than another. At the same time I will tell you that for me, I still think of Google's Keyword Tool as very useful on a lot of levels.
With Google's Keyword Opportunities Beta, I find I am able to be quick and thorough. For competitive research, there are plenty of tools. For setting up the direction for a client site, etc. Google's works for me.
Here is a good description of the Beta on SEL by Crosby Grant.
Hope that helps,
Robert

How is it possible to rank first for a keyword, when the keyword isn't written on the page?
I noticed that one of our competitors is ranking in first position for a keyword but when looking on the page grader. The exact keyword is not used on the page at all (or in title, URL etc.). How is this possible, when other sites have content with those exact words?

Singular and Plural Noun Keywords
Hi everyone Extremely love this community, learning a lot day by day! I am currently in the process of writing a blog post and say for example I am targetting the keyword 'apple' and 'apples'. My current word count of the article is 850 words and I have used 'Apple' 15 times and 'Apples' 26 times. 1 .Is my Keyword density too high and will Google look at this as keyword stuffing? 2. Do I have to target each Singular and Plural keyword individually? Or will targetting 'Apple' will also automatically target 'Apples' for me and vice versa? Thanks in advance!

Sudden keyword rankings drop
Hi, My latest MOZ report has indicated there has been a significant drop in ranking for 65 keywords, some by as much as 30 places. This is not something I have experienced before and seems very drastic. Is there a reasonable explanation or fix for this? Thanks for any advice!

Is my copy too keyword rich?
www.heartwavemedia.com - Wordpress - All in One SEO Competitors: photonsf.com, h2video.com, corduroymedia.com, thehivestudios.org I've spent the last week writing and tweaking my landing page copy along with my SEO page titles and descriptions. I think I finally feel pretty good about it but I'd like your professional opinions. Is it too keyword rich? Does it flow naturally? Is the voice fresh? Do my SEO titles vary enough? Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice.

Is there any value to meta keywords?
The more I read the more I realize that meta keywords are not as helpful as they once were. Is there any SEO value to meta keywords anymore or should the emphasis be put on the content and title tags in regards to keywords? As always, I appreciate any feedback.

Spammy Industry Keyword Research
Hi everyone, First question posted on here. I have spent a lot time this week going through videos and discussions since I signed up here earlier this week. We're just starting in a particular niche that is powerful (home-based businesses), but EXTREMELY spammy with all the at-home opportunities from stuffing envelopes, to MLM, etc. Then there's the other side which is not as spammy, but just not an overall good business model with the in-home Tupperware, candle, and makeup party sales companies. The people that we help and serve are just people who want to start up a part-time or full-time home-based business doing what they love. Maybe it's a dad who loves golf and would like to start a golf store on Ebay or a lady who is great at making stuff and wants to open an Etsy shop or start selling her goods at craft fairs. Our program is more about teaching them how to start a real home-based business that can either earn them a profit either part-time or fulltime while also doing what they love and spending time with their family. My biggest question right now as we begin the Keyword Research and SEO process part of this, is how do we go about doing the keyword research for this while also dealing with a spammy niche? All the research I've been doing for home-based businesses comes back to all the ugly examples I gave above and that isn't the type of people that we're a good fit for. I appreciate all your help and guidance in advance. Been doing web development for 10+ years but finally taking the tiger by the throat and actually learning the SEO/SEM piece myself.
