Best X-Cart SEO Solutions / Modules?
-
We recently acquired an e-commerce client that uses X-Cart. We have no previous experience with this platform and it's hard to find any good / helpful info regarding SEO functionality online.
Right now I need to figure out how to handle mass redirects of 404 errors, friendlier URLs, resolving duplicate content, XML sitemap generation, robots.txt generation. The functionality built into the platform so far is terrible and all of the modules are pricey.
Any recommendations, general or specific, would be insanely helpful if anybody out there has experience with this particular platform.
Thanks!

Couldn't agree more Mark. SEO plugins just help with the mass production of handling certain tasks, but it doesn't matter if you are lacking development support.

Thanks Scott. This is what I've been seeing as well.

This is the SEO solution I've been using on a site and it's been pretty good. Just make sure you have good site developers handling and maintaining the site - if the site goes down or becomes very slow and unresponsive, no SEO plugin is going to help you.

This one seems to be talked about a lot: http://www.websitecm.com/x-cart-mods/cdseo-pro-x-cart-seo.html

Two months into SEO and I have a few questions. Read on.
Hey Moz Community Basically, I have been suspended from my job in November (with pay) on railway. Since I have nothing to do. I came across SEO, and since then. these past two months I've been addicted! firstly, I read up on how to make money buying and selling exact match domains. I failed miserably! newbie error and I still have around 10 domains in my godaddy account 😕 Anyway, I came across moz and a few other sites i read -backlino & quicksprout. I decided to go down the root of just starting a blog on one of my domains based at the health and fitness niche, the sites alot like bodybuilding.com. So this site and SEO has kind of became my hobby as I learn. I am now a MOZ pro member and have my site on there getting weekly reports. I do alot of keyword research and I try my best to write posts on what I have researched and by using the yoast WP-pluging. I optimize my article/post. this week I had a report back from moz saying one of my keywords are #31 . So i put the term in google and go along to page 5 I think it was and there I see it. My post! yesterday I check again and its on page 3, then i see it on page 4, around a few hours later. it is back on page 5 and today. it is back on page 3?? Can somebody explain why it is doing this? Also, the keyword difficulty was 38% and theres over 3 million results for that term.. so to see it there in the top #51 was a shock, as all I have done is On page SEO. No social shares yet or Links pointing to the page. So does this mean with social shares and Links. this could easily end up on page 1? I have around 5 articles on the site so far.. all are around 1000 words each and are all optimized the same way but are not in the top #51 on google. one post has even had around 60 social shares and even flooded over 3000 visits in 2 days and still isn't ranking?? and My final long question is this.. I train at my gym and have mentioned to a few of the fellas about my new hobby and it's all I talk about. Then a week or two later, I have this Guy tap me on the shoulder as I'm working out and puts his hand out to shake mine. "hi I'm Tim. One of the lads mentioned to me that your learning SEO and your passionate about what you do". Anyway, too cut a massive story short. He told me he owns a catering company over here in the UK and really wants me to put what I'm learning into practice for his company. He's offered me a wage and commission if I start making sales through his site. Thing is I'm still new to all of this.. I said I will look at his site, his products and pick out low competition keywords. See what the keyword difficulty score is on moz, and create a blog - writing posts the same why I do on my fitness site... optimize the post, share through social networks etc, find who links to his competitors and reach out etc for links and do the broken link tactic to. Can you guys give me some advice? as i'm no big seo company. I'm also thinking of spending the next few days digging deep into google adwords and facebook ads. As I think getting traffic this way will also be good to start off with, even if it is paid. I know alot of you guys work or own an SEO company. So can you give me some points or link me to some good information on how I should do this process for my first, should I say Client? I know this Is one big Q&A.. but I'm trying to explain everything. Thanks Again. Carl

Do you use interns in your company/agency?
I was reading a CNN article about interns at the White House and how much it costs them financially as the position is unpaid. Recently there was a story re a Bank of America intern who had died after working 72 hours straight - I did not read up on it and have no opinion, but interns are in the news. We use interns regularly and we only use paid interns. The rationale behind it is that we are not looking for free labor, we are looking for bright people who want to learn and contribute and if they are going to contribute, why would we not pay them. Secondarily, whenever I have been in a place where the interns were not paid, they seemed to be in charge of coffee and donuts. (And that's my job.) We want to have them teaching and learning from day one. We place real client issues in their hands and we are very serious about it. The work is always checked by a senior staff member, but I never cease to be amazed by what they can produce when you believe in them. We recently had 6 heading back to college or HS and we put on a crepe party with a local creperie in our offices. It was a huge success. It was funny to see a couple of other marketing firms that know us come out within a day or two with how they are looking to hire interns. As I looked at those and others, I found several large agency types stating they take interns but they are not paid and mainly because of the superior experience, etc. So, if you have interns do you pay them or not and why? I am not looking for anything around right or wrong, I am trying to let you know if you are diligent in hiring them, you will be astounded at what they and you can achieve.

How do I find a great SEO Mentor?
I've had good experiences growing with Mentors. I don't mind paying the high rates as it has always left me with a good return. What I'd be looking for: Someone to give me direction Someone to correct and provide advice on a strategy that I have come up with Someone to provide answers when I'm stuck Someone that I can grow with It would help if the mentor has good knowledge of and can help with how social media, blog writing, email marketing all ties in to a good SEO campaign. Ultimately we want to be able to help our clients reach more people any way possible. With this I feel I can take the next step and start offering these services in a way that works for our business and more importantly allows us to meet the needs of our clients. But finding an SEO mentor is proving harder than I thought. So does anyone have any tips on where to find a mentor? Who is actually doing it now and would be a good option? And what would the rates be? I was thinking in the $100-150 range. Is this reasonable for an SEO mentor? Any help here will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Long copy/articles vs short copy/articles
Hi i'm after data which shows having long articles (e.g. 3000 words) outperforms a much shorter article like 1000 words (assume they are both the same quality of articles) for SEO and even conversion. So far i have seen these articles. http://moz.com/blog/why-content-goes-viral-the-scientific-theory-and-proof including the PDF which links to it. http://moz.com/blog/what-kind-of-content-gets-links-in-2012 Can anyone recommend any other sources which backs the claim that long articles are normally better than short articles. Cheers, Matt
