How does alexa ranking works?
-
I want to decrease my website Alexa ranking. Please suggest me how I can do this.

They based their rankings on data collected via a toolbar. Since this is biased and is a small sample, don't rely on it. Focus on providing a great user experience and off-page seo and you should naturally increase in Alexa rankings. If you do not, don't worry about it at all...

From the Alexa website:
Alexa Traffic Ranks are based on the traffic data provided by users in Alexa’s global toolbar panel over a rolling 3 month period. A site’s ranking is based on a combined measure of Reach and Pageviews. Reach is determined by the number of unique Alexa users who visit a site on a given day. Pageviews are the total number of Alexa user URL requests for a site. However, multiple requests for the same URL on the same day by the same user are counted as a single Pageview. The site with the highest combination of users (Reach) and Pageviews is ranked #1.
So, If you want a better Alexa ranking then you need to increase qualified traffic to your website and entice people to view more pages.

There have been a number of discussions about Alexa in the Q&A forum, including http://www.seomoz.org/q/how-can-i-improve-alexa-rank-of-my-website. Generally, the consensus is to not worry about it, and it's not real accurate, though it can be used when selling advertising as a rough measure of traffic.

Houston Company Needs Help (Will Our SEO Work Be Destroyed While Site is Down?, Can Anything be Done?)
I'm a Moz member, mostly just lurk, and love the Moz community. I work at a non profit company that does benchmarking data and helps school districts improve process in education. Our building flooded and our site is currently offline, is there anything we can do to stop/lesson any SEO page rank drop between now and when we are back up? We have worked very hard to get these rankings. I know it is minor compared to all tragedy in Houston, but we have worked hard to get these SEO gains (YEAH MOZ!) and I'd hate to lose them because of Harvey. Any suggestions, assistance appreciated! Ralph

Looking at acquiring a competitor with a high organic ranking (WordPress Plugin)
I'm looking at acquiring a competitor who operates a WordPress plugin with the same function as mine (although ours is much better - they used this plugin to acquire leads for other software). We're trying to determine the best way to execute it. They are the number 1 result on a very high value search, and the number 3 on another (which appears to the source of all their customer acquisition, they are simply a very well named, long existing WordPress plugin, and so haven't had to fight much to keep their ranking). Ideally, we'd be able to take over that ranking, but I'm not sure if that is possible. For one thing, they don't have a website beyond the WordPress plugin, so even if we wanted to, we couldn't 301 redirect it (as far as I know). Second, wouldn't a 301 redirect likely result in entirely losing the ranking? We are actually highly relevant to anyone who ends up at this plugin (the owner has actually been recommending us and contacted us because his customers who have left have had a good experience), and wouldn't be redirecting it to piggyback on the link juice, we'd be trying to acquire the customers that have been discovering this plugin organically. I understand why Google defaults to policies making purchasing high ranking domains not very valuable. However, it seems like if you've built a company that derives a high volume of its leads (and thus acquisition value) from organic search, that there would be a way for a company in the same space to acquire at least the rankings, if not the link juice. Hopefully that was clear, if not, let me know where I lost you, and I'll attempt to clarify. Thanks!

Good rankings with Google but difficulties to enter on Top 50 with Bing and Yahoo?
Hi guys, I'm facing this problem with some websites that I'm trying to optimize for the search engines. I've worked on a good SEO on Page and I've had not so many difficulties to get good ranking results on Google. The problem is that I'm not having any result with Yahoo and Bing, even if I've sent the sitemap to the Bing Webmaster Toll and I'm keeping under control the possible crawling errors both on Google and Bing Webmaster Tool. Can someone please help me with an explanation?

Rank Tracking Software
I am looking for a software to track all keywords my website is ranking for. I am aware that SEMrush can accomplish this, but as I am paying for mOz already, I was looking for something less expensive. mOz has a feature to track keywords that drive traffic to your website by linking it to your google analytics, but I want to find more than that...I want EVERYTHING. Does anyone know/use this kind of software *Please comment with specific programs/software/tools in your response. I need real suggestions. I'm not looking for the Matt Cutts "cookie cutter" answer (like what I did there?) like "you should search your analytics for words you're already ranking for". Thanks!

http://www.example.com/satisfaction-guaranteed/
http://www.example.com/ Is this accurate? I ran a test on several sites and the majority showed www.examplesite.com as the first crawled I would hate to think that the engines are putting more emphasis on my gift certificates than my homepage. I read the post on here that the homepage should be first.0 -
