Local Vs Organic Search Keyword Ranking
-
This isn't a question. It's a simple suggestion that I'm hoping will inspire a change at Seomoz.
I love what this site does. What it helps us do as community. What it helps us achieve collectively. This suggestion is based on that love...
I think we all can agree that the rankings between local reviews and organic reviews are very different beasts entirely. They should then be treated this way within the Seomoz data with separate reports.
The vast majority of reputable small businesses don't care about national rankings, but would rather get to the top of the local charts with their 5-star reviews. Can you imagine the power of a report that is dedicated to helping you shape your client's results to achieve this?
I like seeing the results of local in the keyword report, but we need a report dedicated to local search to make a difference in our rankings. With all of the recent chatter on local search, I'm surprised this isn't already available.

Hi David,
At this point our local rankings product is still a few months out; we will be releasing multiple local products in Q1 of next year. That's about all I can say publicly right now, but please stay tuned!

Hi David,
Any updates on the progress of local search?
Like most other businesses, we don't care how we rank outside of our targeted areas (Detroit and Philadelphia). But, for users within our DMA, we care very much if we are coming up on page 1.
If you can figure this out, you'll get much much love.

Hi Andrew and Christopher,
Thanks for contributing to this thread. I've just returned from vacation to Miriam's email in my inbox. We're definitely looking to bring more local reporting features to our customers over the next few months & appreciate you voicing this request, as it helps us prioritize features internally.
Thanks again for being a part of our community!

Hi Andrew,
I've alerted the staff to your feedback. Thanks so much for letting us know what would make our tools more useful to you!

Miriam,
Thanks for your reply on this... To clarify, what I'm suggesting is a keyword report for local search results. Currently, the Keyword report does show local results; however, it's not something that you can filter results for within the search. A dedicated report that allows us to see where our clients rank for keywords in local results could be a very powerful tool.
Thanks again!
Andrew

Surely some one from SEOMOZ team can answer it in best way.The amount of info I have I do not think its easy to report that you have added that many number of reviews and you got that many number of citations so you are ranking on this position now.
The role each citation and review plays differ in each case so I do not think so its quite effective form of reporting.Rather than descriptive approach looks fine for now with brief addition of number of citations and reviews you got up till now.

Ranking History
I realize you can click on a specific keyword and view Ranking History for approximately the most recent 12 weeks. I am wondering if you plan on offering additional options (e.g. 6 mo or 1 yr)? It would be great to show clients progress over a greater time span. I am aware of the csv download, but my clients are not interested in looking at or comprehending raw csv data. Can anyone suggest a good tutorial for transforming csv into a decent looking graph? Or, perhaps a software that is capable of doing the same - for those of us that quite simply don't have the time to crash into yet another learning curve 😉 Thanks!

Keyword Rankings Compare to X not working
Anyone else having trouble with the compare your keyword positions with competitors section of the analytics? The rankings for my site(s) are fine but whichever competitor I click on to compare rankings to just returns 'Not in Top 50' the competitor is ranking. I have just manually checked and they are very much listed in the engine. Is this tool broken?

Meaning of Keyword difficulty
Before joining SEOMoz I used to calculate Keyword difficulty with my own method based on keyword density, presence of synonyms, Page rank, title and URL. This seemed to rather well work and I reach 1st page on a fairly regumar basis by picking good difficulty / interest ratio keywords and only onsite optimization. (No link building) I just looked @Keyword analysis in SEOMoz. It seems it is only based on page / site autority. Is this correct? Do you believe keyword and synonym density is irrelevent? Do I need to set back to my home recipe if I want to include keyword analysis in my difficulty assessment ? Thx

Is it possible to see rankings on a graph?
Would it be possible to display Ranking data on a graph to show progress over a period of time? It would be great to be able to show a client how a certain keyword has improved over a time period.

How to see rankings for a group of keywords over time?
I have around 1200 keywords in an seomoz campaign, chopped into various groups using labels. I am interested in tracking how keywords perform over time, especially groups of keywords. As far as I can tell, in the seomoz tools I can only see historical performance for a single keyword at a time. Is there a way to get a historical performance graph of more than one keyword at once? We often run optimizations for sets of words, so it seems like you would have better stats looking at groups of words vs picking one at a time. Is there a way to export historical data for more than keyword at a time? (So I could graph and analyze this sort of thing myself) Does anyone have other suggestions for tracking rankings in this way? Thanks for any help!
