Beyond Guest Blogging, What Else Works Now?

Given the importance of editorial links & co-citation, beyond guest blogging what other high-value link-building tactics should I be looking at to boost organic search placings?
Specifically, in Apr 2013 is there still mileage in directories (such as these on the SEOMoz list) or on this GetListed list; or in placing content on social sites such as Squidoo?

Use those General Directories if they include your a section for your industry.
Squidoo - turned to crap because of article marketers re-spinning content. Got HAMMERED by Google. I'm not putting my clients in Squidoo.

Thank you.SEOMOZ List - yes, but only related ones. Quite a few on the SEOMoz list are "general" directories. What's the deal with those? Avoid?

I forgot to mention, try to get your links on pages, not just blog posts.
Think creatively on why someone should give you a link on one of their landing pages. I normally give links to gov't sites and the BBB. Why should someone like me link to you on one of my landing pages? How are you going to make my life easier?
Maybe you can make a widget that is only for a certain company that has a back link at the bottom of the widget.

Guest Blogging is a good idea but I guess there are other tactics for link building that you can use... which includes link sleuthing and grabbing links through images....
Inm y opinion directories still ahve a bit of a mileage but if you are tight with budget i would prefer spend more on organic and natural links instad of directories....

I totally agree with Francisco...guest blogging should only by one element of building links, the fact is we don't know what the algorithm is for a reason (the fun is in the hunt).
I have found if you do a combination of the little things correctly and keep to the basics of web marketing and optimisation, "regular content", social media presence, and good on-site optimisation etc, etc it will go along way!
I recently tested a couple of sites to see what sort of timeframe it would take google to index a page..so I set up "Google Alerts" for certain keywords I wanted to target, the theory behind this I would be able to see how long it takes for google to index and crawl a page and in particular a link. and then measure it against my SERP (search placing)
I tested out the theory on two sites SBWire and PRBuzz, it only took 2 days for it to get indexed and my placing did move not long after, in the right direction
So to answer your questions, PR's are still an effective link building strategy; however it is all still relative to what your competition is doing ? do they have a strong social media presence, do they blog do they have great content content.

We don't know exact what Google does to rank websites. I think it's a good thing doesn't let us know the algorithm.
I think link building through guest blog posting should only be one thing you should do. How about leaving testimonials on other websites? I have used that successfully especialy with companies that use our service.

Jeepster, I can tell you a few things that are just his long and arduous. If I may ask are you currently blogging on your own domain? I'm assuming so right? What are you doing to get your blogs out there so people actually recognize your site as an authority on search engine optimization?
You can rewrite your entire website. I would recommend using scribe SEO or scribe content
When doing so you can make your articles longer that seems to help. In addition to that you can make them more engaging essentially make it the next version of your website in addition why don't you throw in some new graphics and redo your entire website top to bottom. It would be a very very cool thing to do as Caplewood pay attention to the look of the site and then give it a go. But you must out the content there to keep them. As far as the maximum impact factor I would go with getting your information in the hands of a well-known authority see if you can get some retweets. Consistently blog do not stop blogging on your own website. Speed up your site this will do wonders even though Google only gives it a couple hundred of a point it actually will increase user usability and user happiness. I would start out with a strong's very strong email campaign that's not spamming it all talk to the guys at Mill33.com they are the best in my opinion and I'll help you through the entire process email campaigns when done right can have some of the highest ROI of any specular search engine optimization technique or online marketing technique. How new website / blogs can earn backlinks?
Hi, As link wheels, link pyramids and paid links are penalized by google and the only chance to get back links is to earn them. My Question is that with a new website / blog, how a newbie with no relationships with established bloggers, can earn links? Because writing quality contents and detailed posts (e.g. more than 3000 words posts twice a month) still would benefits for those blogs having already traffic to share these contents and in case of new blog, due to very low traffic, it would take months or years to enter in the game. Migrating blog posts to new site
I'm in the process of setting up a new site for a client, moving them over to WordPress from Joomla. They've got 50ish blog posts on their old site, but none of them have accumulated any external links. Is it worth it to copy them over to the new site for the sake of retaining all that content, or better just to start from scratch?

Site used to rank first for main keyword - now dropped drastically
The home page for this site (http://bit.ly/4m1eXy) was ranking between #1 and #3 for the term "Minneapolis criminal defense" as of a few months ago. Now the home page has dropped to #23 for this keyword, and the only changes we've made should be enhancing its ability to rank - through on-page optimization, cleaning up site errors, and ensuring good, quality content. The thing is, the sites who rank ahead of our site have lower domain authority and page authority, and their content, quite frankly, just isn't that great. Some of them are definitely doing SEO but they aren't necessarily targeting "Minneapolis criminal defense" like we are for the search term. Before our company started doing SEO for this website, they hired a company that generated a large number of backlinks that Google would probably now see as spammy. The previous company also used to direct traffic towards the home page for the keyword "Minneapolis DWI laywer" too - and we have since stopped doing that. So I'm wondering with all of Google's algorithmic updates if this is the reason we're seeing a drop for this term, and if Google's confused. We're pretty confused, too, though, since the sites ranking ahead of us don't seem to be doing squeaky clean SEO by any means. Advice for us? We're stumped. Would anyone consider Google's disavow tool for the bad links?

Will this Blog Tool hurt our SEO
Hi, We have come across this tool that we are considering using for some of our blog posts. We will still continue posting our own post blogs weekly, we will just use this if we come across anything interesting. Our concern is it will produce duplicate content from other sites. One website I checked is ranking well on Google. Upon checking its backlinks, I found that most of them are blog comments. Is blog commenting still valuable? Anyone encountered any recent problem (ranks gone down, etc)? Are there any specific strategy to blog commenting these days? Thanks!

Build links through blogging?
Although my site is a wordpress site it presently has about as many static pages as blog posts. The site has a lot of directory links and is doing pretty good with a PR3 after about a year. When I first put the site up I had a well known blogging expert help me with the permalinks and a couple of other things and he said that with a blog there is no need to build links, it can all be done through natural link acquisition off of the blog posts. I was skeptical at the time because it seemed that a lawyer's site was something not a lot of people would be interested enough in to link to it. Now I am thinking about trying his stragegy, as 1 of my blog posts that I put up on a very topical subject immediately got about 15 backlinks. My questions are: Is it reasonable to try to build links just by posting frequent topical blog posts? If yes, should I have links in the blog posts to my home page, to internal pages, or both? \ Paul

How do I distribute blog content?
Morning Mozzers! I work for an online wedding retailer and we add new, unique, high quality content to our blogs on a daily basis. After adding the new content we Tweet it and mention it on our Facebbok page. My question is this: how can I distribute the content to generate back links?
