How is your social media profile?
-
Hi
At the moment im trying to make a social media strategy for the company i work in, whcis is a big insurance company. Of course i want to add value on the different social media, but i also want to take into account which value the social media can add to my SEO.
Facebook
We have a profile on Facebook, with around 5.000 likes, and as far as im concerned the important thing on Facebook is to get people to share your links?Google+ At the moment we dont have a Google+ account, but my suggestion would be that we create one . maybe not to generate alot of content, but in order to get more info on the branded search results - and i have a presumption that Google will put more and more emphasis on Google+ in the updates that lies ahead.
Twitter We have a profile, but are there anything we could do in order to optimize the SEO-effect via Twitter - what i have heard is that because their links are no-follow it dosent have any effect on SEO.
Instagram
Is there anything to gain on SEO if you create a profile on Instagram? Please let me hear your views on this.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
Thanks for your reply - it was excactly what i was looking for :-).
This is not only a SEO-excersice, its also an excersice in giving people relevant information about our company - and using the right channels to do that - and as far as im concerned the two things are close related, and will be furthermore in the future.
Twitter and Facebook are a given for our company, we need to be on those social media, and i don't know if there is anything we can do in order to optimize those for SEO-purposes?
And then i will start creating a Google plus profile, and trying to integrate Google +1 oppertunities on our site.
Your thoughts about Tumblr and Pinterest are very interesting, but it seems that where we are located (Denmark), it will be Instagram that will be the 3rd biggest social network, behind Facebook and Twitter, so if we add ressources into a fourth social network (besides Facebook, Twitter and Google+) it will probably be Instagram.

Are you asking what social media profiles have an impact on SEO? As far as I know, only Google+ has a direct result on search results. Your company absolutely should have a profile on Google+. Adding Google+ buttons to your site can improve your page's rankings for logged in users if people +1 your content, and Google authorship markup can introduce author snippets in the SERPs which can increase clickthrough rates.
Another great social network for SEO is Tumblr, which is the 5th largest social network in the world, but unlike every other network has dofollow links. It's a great source of social media traffic and backlinks.
Finally, if you are on Pinterest you can get a dofollow link from your main page.
Beyond that, none of the other social networks have a direct impact on SEO, but many of them can have an indirect benefit. Focus on the ones that the majority of your users/potential customers are using.

On a website, is the most effective user experience for the social media icons to open new tabs?
There is debate around what is most effective for user experience. When a user clicks on the social media icons on our site, should a new tab be opened for the social media page or should the website redirect to the social media page?

Do twitter profile links in bio pass juice?
Links that are added in the "Website" field in a twitter profile are nofollow. However, links added to the "Bio" section are dofollow. This has to mean these links are passing juice correct?

Social Media and Local Search results
Hello, I have profiles in several social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. When I search with my name on google.com the profiles are showing on the first page, but when I do a local search, the profiles start showing in the end of the second page. I'm very active in my social media profiles, and I don't know why is this happening. How long does it take for the profiles to show on the first page in local search? Can I do anything to speed up the process?

Should links to your social media accounts be followed?
Hi There, Just wondering if you guys (and girls) think that your links to social media accounts be followed or nofollow? This includes sitewide header/footer links and other text links littered throughout the site. Includes Twitter, FB, Pinterest and G+ specifically (for my site anyway). Thanks in advance!

How long until Social Spam achieves the same notoriety/problem as Link Spam used to be
What are people's thoughts on whether or not social spam will become a major problem soon, just like forum profile/blog comment spam, etc, and what do you think the search engines will do about companies that are blatantly gaming the social signals game I.E. since social proof seems to be google's answer to combating anchor text manipulation and content farms, what do you think will be google's answer to combating the rampant social spam that will surely overtake us.
