301 redirect for blog post URL change

I'm thinking about changing the URL for a new blog post that I have already promoted off-site today. I overlooked a detail and am gently kicking myself.
I can't determine if it's worth any negative issues that adjusting it might create vs the value of having a more "perfect" URL. Would it be OK to do this by applying a 301 redirect to the page? Would this be the right thing to do or is there some other way?

Sadly, though, I just discovered that I lost all my FB likes and Linkedin shares...Not sure if there's anything I can do about that.

I just installed the "Redirection" plugin and used it successfully.
Super easy:
1. Change the URL
2. Go to Tools/Redirection/Redirects
3. Add new redirection: input Source URL, input Target URL, hit "add redirection" and that's it!

Good to know you are using it. Yep. I've been studying the alternatives this morning. One called "Redirection" is standing out as a potentially good one and has a lot of downloads. Anyone use that?
Others seem potentially complicated and my concern is that i dont understand enough of what I'd be getting or how to use considering the complex description details. Some of them say they won't work with permaLinks? Or look like they aren't designed for a simple URL change within a site. Another thing I saw was that some seem to require creating a new post or page and it would be so nice not to have to do that.
I'm not a programmer and it would be so nice if I could take care of this on my own without having to wait within our company's own queue.

Thanks. Yes. WordPress. That plugin hasn't been updated in 2 years, though, and we're on the latest version of WordPress. Says it may not be compatible.. Will need to experiment perhaps. But I'm a little concerned about that.
Does anyone else have a 301 plugin they like?

The 301 is exactly what you should do. No big deal. Since it is still early it makes sense that you would want to go with a more "perfect" url. I own a network of blogs and we have found that the right URL can be very important to long term ranks. Good luck!

A colleague and I were having a discussion about this and wanted to get insight from the community about this. Most often we run contests on social channels, but for some we place them on our e-commerce web site - particularly those which have a universal appeal to customers since these also tend to be included in our e-mails. Has anyone seen a Blog post from LinkedIn's new Blog feature appear in SERP's?
This feature, prior to Feb. 2014 was only available to high profile users, or influencers, like Bill Gates. Now it is available to all LinkedIn users and extends the reach to LinkedIn groups and your own network. Anyone know if there's an SEO benefit? Thanks in advance.

Opinions/advice on Blog posts please
I'm an intern at an Accounts Software Company. I'm doing SEO for them. As part of this I've recently started blogging. I'm doing this in an effort to increase traffic to the blog, and try to shift content focus away from Startup Methodology and increase focus on the product..I've had some success with it, in terms of increased Domain Authority and keyword ranking. At the same time, Keyword ranking can suddenly drop for some keywords, closely related to the ones I'm trying to rank for. The further difficulty is, that nobody wants to read about Accounting subjects. I've tried to make my posts as interesting and as valuable as possible.I'm still having trouble gauging whether I'm going about things the right way.Please take a look at some of the posts I've done. Changing Facebook Username
HI Does anyone know of any negative consequences of changing Facebook username ? For example i take it all your fans are transferred/you dont lose them 🙂 ? Its just a url change (so links on website etc need to be updated) but thats the only thing that changes ? Many Thanks Dan

Post Privacy Settings
Facebook says roughly 12% of your friends see your posts. Facebook has privacy settings. Naturally the setting is "public." If you change the setting from public to "Selected List," do you think more of that group of people will get the message? If your public setting has 1,000 friends, and the list contains 200 people, do you think it will generate the post to 12% of the list? Is there anyone interested in testing this? It would make a GREAT blog post! I would certainly read it. If you have any tips to help hit more people on Facebook let me hear it please!

Working with 3rd PArty Social Media partners / paid blogs
Hi there! We are an ecommerce company based in the UK and are an online butcher. We are looking to further our contribution and authority in a social sphere, in particular develop relations with bloggers and social sites who are realised to have authority in our sphere (food / meat). At present we are active in the usual (Twitter, Facebook etc) and have over 1000 likes and followers. We also have a cool blog which can be found at <cite>www.donaldrussell.com/weblog/index.html</cite> We are looking at our content and would like to share this with other bloggers in return for backlinks and visits from these blogs, and in turn improve our pagerank and SEO ratings. I have been offered the chance to work with EBuzzing, who claim to get your content published and referred to but you have to pay these "bloggers" for the privelage. Is this a good way of furthering our social strategy in the short term, or is this the wrong way to go and do search engines devalue these links? My preference is to organically grow our presence through becoming a valuable contributor and have alsways strongly advocated this, however Ebuzzing or other simillar services sound too good to be true!
