Opinions/advice on Blog posts please
-
I'm an intern at an Accounts Software Company. I'm doing SEO for them. As part of this I've recently started blogging. I'm doing this in an effort to increase traffic to the blog, and try to shift content focus away from Startup Methodology and increase focus on the product..I've had some success with it, in terms of increased Domain Authority and keyword ranking. At the same time, Keyword ranking can suddenly drop for some keywords, closely related to the ones I'm trying to rank for. The further difficulty is, that nobody wants to read about Accounting subjects. I've tried to make my posts as interesting and as valuable as possible.I'm still having trouble gauging whether I'm going about things the right way. Please take a look at some of the posts I've done. If anyone had any critique/advice I'd really appreciate it.. Here it is: http://www.bullethq.com/blog/category/accounts/

Hi Amelia
That's a great answer, thanks a lot. You've basically reaffirmed my own thinking.
I'll keep grinding and hope for the best.
Thanks again
Chris

Hi Chris,
You bring up two points here.
I don't think I can help you much with the first point, beyond saying that rankings are often volatile, and can and do move down as well as up (when I worked for an agency, we often used to say to clients (managing their expectations) that 'search isn't linear' and movement down as well as up is to be expected.) This is especially true of new campaigns.
Remember, if you lose rankings for some keywords it doesn't always matter hugely if the keyword gets few searches or the intent behind those searches doesn't match your page. (though in the second instance, you could re-write the page to make sure it fits with what the visitor is expecting to see.) So, don't completely despair!
Check Analytics for visits and conversions - these are the metrics your bosses will be caring most about in real terms. If your work is having a positive affect on these, then you know you are definitely on the right track.
Regarding the other problem you have: most people don't want to read accounting articles. I have a similar problem with optimising a very dry and some might say dull subject. It isn't always easy to come up with things to write about in this instance. What I do, is try and work out basic 'profiles' of my intended audience, and then try and work out what sorts of things this person wants to read about (within my subject area, which is finance). Then I go ahead and write the piece. So... Think about the sorts of people who use your website - I haven't spent long looking at it, so this suggestion may not work for you, but I would think about writing things that business men and women are interested in. This could be anything, from the kinds of investments they may make to an article about juggling the work/life balance. For example - would your product help a busy working-mum get her accounts done quickly so she can focus her attention where she (presumably) would prefer it to be: with her family?
I hope this helps - keep at it, these things take time and don't whatever you do start to feel despondent about the rankings. It will happen so long as you provide high quality content and create quality backlinks to the site and blog.
Good luck!
Amelia

How can you tell if a competitors' FB post was boosted?
Does anyone know how to identify if a FB post was boosted or not? Does FB or a third party software have that capability? Thanks, Ruben

Webmaster is showing hundreds of external links from 1 G+ post
A page on our site is registering as having 262 external links coming from two pages on Google+. The page it comes from is for posts related to #weddings, but I can't find the post with our link. Has anyone else experienced this? Best directory or subdomain for a blog
We are planning to set up a blog using wordpress to help improve domain authority and rankings. Is there a preferred site to put this? ie is it best to create a subdomain, or put it in the root directory or put it in a completely different domain? Or will there be no resulting difference ?

Are Facebook posts indexed?
Can using keywords and target phrases in posts on my Facebook fanpage help my SEO strategy, or does Google not crawl those pages so it doesn't matter in terms of SEO? If it can help, can you please provide an example? Thanks!

Best way to set up a directory / list site?
I have a domain called DownSyndromeBlogs.com There is nothing there now, but what I want to do is create a directory type site where I list lots of different blogs about Down syndrome (my son was born with Down syndrome, so it's a passion of mine.) Is there a good way to use that domain other than just a simple directory? Is it worth it to do some sort of "all top" like site? Maybe listing the RSS of each blog and pulling in a spinet of info? Or have people rank and view them? My purpose for buying the domain was two fold: 1. To give people searching for blogs about Down syndrome a good list of where to find them, and 2. To help direct people back to our site about Down syndrome, NoahsDad.com Another thing I was thinking about was somehow asking people to submit their site to DownsyndromeBlogs.com and perhaps ask for their email address or other contact info (since the people wanting to put their blog on the list would be the same people I would want to know about my main blog - NoahsDad.com) Or maybe there is another thing I'm missing all together..like making that some sort of 'social network' or buddy press for people wanting to blog about Down syndrome..but there are already many other sties out there like that. One thing I was curious about is SEO...if it's not a blog, and i"m not constantly putting up new and fresh content, will anyone ever be able to find the site via google search? (If that makes sense.) If I just do a directory page the page will be some what static and only updated when I add a new url. I'm open to any feedback / suggestions/ advice. Thanks.

Is it possible to see who have liked your blog post ?
I was wondering if you have a like button on the blog and people use it to like a post , is it possible to find out who all have liked the post ? ( there is a counter to show the number of people who have liked the post, but could not figure out who have actually clicked the like button )
