Has anybody used Yext or Universal Business Listings as an automated approach to getting clients into all of the many directories? If so does it work? Or does Google penalize in using these automated services?
-
I'm trying to figure out if using either Yext or Universal Business Listings is worth it. They have reseller programs for SEO agencies. I just am curious what other SEO folks think of these services as I'm considering using one of them to automate and save time for clients. If you go to Yext.com or universalbusinesslistings.org you can see these. Curious what others say about these. Thanks

Another wrinkle with using Yext. It appears that the links on many of the citations created by Yext, do not link directly to the business. Instead, they pass thru Yext first before being redirected to the business.

Hi Wendy,
I agree with William- claim, edit, verify the listings manually.
Listing a business on these sites requires getting to know your client and their services and the process can be very detail oriented. I think Yext lacks this attention to detail.
Has the business moved? Changed their business name? Have tracking numbers? Are they already listed on some of these sites but with information that doesn't match exactly to what you've provided? These are questions that "powerlisting" service providers don't seem to ask. All they need is your current business information and off they go. BUT some time is saved...for now.
Here is another point of view from Nyagoslav at NGS marketing on Yext-

Hi Wendy,
Will is correct on all points. Manual profile creation is still considered to be best by the majority of top Local SEOs, but Google will certainly not penalize you for using an automated service. That being said, if you do need to go with an automated service, be advised that you may run into issues with the service not identifying possible duplicate listings and correcting them. So, for that, you would be back to manual again. It's important to understand this, because of the power of duplicates to sap the strength of a profile.

Google does not penalize websites for simply having their business listed.
Yext is quite expensive. I have used UBL in the past, and it works well, but the best way is to claim all of your listings manually.
I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear, but if you're looking for a referral for someone to build your business listings, PM me.

Yelp (recrawl Google/Bing)
If Google and Bing show an older version of a site's Yelp rating in the search results, what options are there to help ensure Google and Bing recrawl the Yelp page? Additionally, it appears third-party sites such as MapQuest show Yelp ratings and appear in Google search results; is it possible to request MapQuest to recrawl Yelp and then ask Google to recrawl MapQuest? Any advice would be much appreciated!

What Google Analytics Data to Share with Potential Website Buyer
Hi Mozzers,
Industry News | | emerald
We have contacted our competitors to let them know we would like to sell our website (domain and all content). One of them has asked for Google Analytics data. Which parts of this and how is this data best shared in such a case? As this is the opening of offers, I'm assuming some kind of PDF export with a summary of some Analytics data is sufficient to see who is serious. Then for those who are serious more data could be shared. Or is it ever ok to share your full Analytics with a competitor? Would love to hear what data and best practises are used to share this kind of information. Thank you.0 -

Has anyone had success disavowing old links or competitor spam links and should the disavow tool be used ONLY as a last resort?
One of our clients has some shady old links that we just recently discovered with a new link analysis tool. Not sure if they are harming the site or not but given the nature and verocity of the latest penguin updates we want to remove or negate their effects on the site asap. Thanks

How do you measure impacts of Google Updates Like Penguin 4?
Having a conversation with a fellow SEO via twitter and we were discussing measuring algorithm updates. In the aftermath of Google Penguin 4 how do you determine the effects it has on your site/sites and your respective verticals?

How elated do you get?
So I was wondering, as from time to time I get a tiny bit excited if I manage to gain a new link that I've tried hard to get or I manage to outrank that **** that has been stuck at number 1 for so long or if I managed to do some A/B testing which has led to more leads and conversions. Does anybody else cheer inside or even have a short outburst of YEAAAH! f*** you Wikipedia! when they do something worthwhile? I may be on my own here..

How to remove a Google algorithmic penalty
My site has a Google penalty. I seem to be stuck in the 64th position for a Google search for my sites name. All my keywords that I used to rank well for are now well above the 60th search place in Google. I have resolved the issue I recieved the penalty for and I have asked Google for reconsideration. That has been about 3 months ago. The penalty is still firmly in place. I was wondering if anyone else has had a Google algorithmic penalty removed and if so how did they accomplish this?
