Success stories of theme sponsored sites
-
It's widely known that links from theme sponsorshare do not work well as it was a few years ago. And footer links are kind of useless or even risky.
But take a look roofline link profile and traffic chart of mafiashare.net, you will find different worth more research.
1. Most back links to mafiashare.net are from crappy Wordpress themes with various anchor text and even embedded in mis-used "scroll to top" button.
2. OSE shows linking root domains in 1,000+, ahrefs shows ratio of sitewide links is not too high.
Does mafiashare.net survive but using above two tactics combined? It has been in alexa top 10,000 for nearly half year. Maybe keep black/gray hat in a small scale is good to avoid the radar while benefit the rankings?
Any thoughts are welcome. If you happened to know other websites being successful by sponsoring theme links, please share here.

I agree. These kinds of sites with similar link profiles mushroom towards the top of the SERPS all the time. But then as Google catches up with algorithm updates and applying them to their indexes, those kinds of sites disappear for ever.
-
Thanks for your answer. If you looked into mafiashare's link report by ahrefs.com, you will not see any natural links. I am sure if they have made any white hat efforts, it's pretty much under Ahrefs's radar.
The sudden traffic surge of mafiashare.net is unnatural by any means. The most surprising is it has maintained its traffic for half year.
Obvious spammy sites with sudden traffic surge are likely to be filtered in 3 months.

All kinds of link tactics work. Atleast to some extent, for sometime. The question is, what you are seeing is it something they are doing ? Or is it something a competition did for negative SEO. Regardless, let's presume they did it at some point. What if they disvowed those links. We may never know.
So all kinds of links, whether comment spam, hidden links, etc etc, work to some extent, but at some point, they get filtered by the algorithm and they get caught or penalized or the value of those links discounted.
Does that answer your question ? Does it help ?
**I wouldn't recommend doing those kinds of links. The only people that do them are mostly people with throwaway websites. **

Onpage optimising for multiple sites
I’ve been given the task of optimizing a company’s websites (15 in total) that has multiple websites selling the same product. In terms of optimizing them, can I use the same set of meta descriptions, page title tags and key words for them all or do I need to produce a different set for each? The sites are for independently branded companies that are set up in a franchise-like arrangement. They all exclusively sell the parent companies joinery products

Ranking of Travel Sites in SERPs
Hello, I have noticed that some travel sites rank for almost all the keywords but when I click the page, it has no relevant content and often no content at all. I remember Google once updated its algorithm to do away with such sites but I still found some. The question is - if they don't have relevant content or if they don't have content at all, how do they even rank? Secondly, how come they have pages for all keyword combination? How is this achieved? Regards

3 Wordpress sites 1 Tumblr site coming under 1domain(4subdomains) WPMU: Proper Redirect?
Hey Guys, witnessSF.org (WP), witnessLA.org(Tumblr), witnessTO.com(WP), witnessHK.com(WP), and witnessSEOUL.com(new site no redirects needed) are being moved over to sf.ourwitness.com, la.ourwitness.com and so forth. All under on large Wordpress MU instance. Some have hundreds of articles/links others a bit less. What is the best method to take, I understand there are easy redirects, and the complete fully manual one link at a time approach. Even the WP to WP the permalinks are changing from domain.com/date/post-name to domain.com/post-name? Here are some options: Just redirect all previous witinessla.org/* to la.ourwitness.org/ (automatic direct all pages to home page deal) (easiest not the best)2) Download Google Analytics top redirected domains about 50 urls have significant ranking and traffic (in LA's sample) and just redirect those to custom links. (most bang for the buck for the articles that rank manually set up to the correct place) 3) Best of the both worlds may be possible? Automated perhaps?I prefer working with .htaccess vs a redirect plugin for speed issues. Please advise. Thanks guys!

Removing A Blog From Site...
Hi Everyone, One of my clients I am doing marketing consulting for is a big law firm. For the past 3 years they have been paying someone to write blog posts everyday in hopes of improving search traffic to site. The blog did indeed increase traffic to the site, but analyzing the stats, the firm generates no leads (via form or phone) from any of the search traffic that lands in the blog. Furthermore, I'm seeing Google send many search queries that people use to get to the site to blog pages, when it would be much more beneficial to have that traffic go to the main part of the website. In short, the law firm's blog provides little to no value to end users and was written entirely for SEO purposes. Now the law firm's website has 6,000 unique pages, and only 400 pages of the site are NON-blog pages (the good stuff, essentially). About 35% of the site's total site traffic lands on the blog pages from search, but again... this traffic does not convert, has very high bounce rate and I doubt there is any branding benefit either. With all that said, I didn't know if it would be best to delete the blog, redirect blog pages to some other page on the site, etc? The law firm has ceased writing new blog posts upon my recommendation, as well. I am afraid of doing something ill-advised with the blog since it accounts now for 95% of the pages of the website. But again, it's useless drivel in my eyes that adds no value and was simply a misguided SEO effort from another marketer that heard blogs are good for SEO. I would certainly appreciate any guidance or advice on how best to handle this situation. Thank you for your kind help!

More Indexed Pages than URLs on site.
According to webmaster tools, the number of pages indexed by Google on my site doubled yesterday (gone from 150K to 450K). Usually I would be jumping for joy but now I have more indexed pages than actual pages on my site. I have checked for duplicate URLs pointing to the same product page but can't see any, pagination in category pages doesn't seem to be indexed nor does parameterisation in URLs from advanced filtration. Using the site: operator we get a different result on google.com (450K) to google.co.uk (150K). Anyone got any ideas?

Acquisition of a new site in the same field.
Hello, I work with SEO for a company that just bought another in the same field. What is better to do? Just a 301 domain? Make 301 per page for a related page (more than 10,000 URLs, i'am afraid that this may be interpreted as blackhat ) or make crossdomain canonical tag urls related to (I believe this is not good, because the pages are not fully equal). thank's
