What Should I Do With Low Quality Content?
-
As my site has definitely got hit by Panda, I am in the process of cleaning my website of low quality content.
Needless to say, shitty articles are completed being removed but I think lots of this content is now of low quality because it is obsolete and dated.
So what should I do with this content?
Should I rewrite those articles as completely new posts and link from the old posts to the new ones? Or should I delete the old posts and do a 301 redirect to the new post?
Or should I rewrite the content of these articles in place so I can keep the old URL and backlinks?
One thing is that I've got a lot more followers than I used to so publishing a new post gets a lot more views, like and shares and whatnot from social networks.

I wouldn't re-write old posts. If they can be refreshed or added to with recent updates go ahead and redirect (if it can be redirected without losing any additional info) or link to the new version.
Things get tricky if there's nothing new that can be written about the post. First, kill the really bad stuff, as Mike suggested, and keep the good stuff. The stuff on the borderline is probably not worth keeping unless it was still receiving traffic. In my experience with Panda, using 410s on bad pages is better than redirecting, but you will probably want to 301 redirect to the next-best page if you have good links.
If it was still receiving organic traffic, think about what you can do to make it better or provide additional resources and reading. Try to save traffic-generating pieces by improving them and making them useful to the people who were landing on them. For high-traffic pieces, you will want to look at the organic keywords and make sure the page somehow answers the query.
As always with Panda, make sure your design doesn't turn people off and that you're not filling the template with too many ads.

No 404's are fine they will just not pass link juice and Google will eventually stop following them but ideally they will phase out regardless as the internet moves along.
-
And what about real crappy content? If I delete it, I end up with lots of 404 errors. Does that pose a problem to Google?
-
In this case, would you change the date to post it as "new" content? Because even if I rewrite it, I can't post an article from 2008 to the website's Facebook page.
-
I think that it all depends on how bad the content is. If you have content that is complete and total crap (10+ instances of the same keyword, reads like a toddler wrote it, etc.), it is better just to kill it and redirect your pages elsewhere. On the other hand, if the content is salvageable, then take the time to re-write it and make it good. The benefit of this is that at the end of the day you have good content instead of a bunch of links re-directed to pages that don't necessarily have anything to do with the old content.
Good luck!
P.S. Don't forget the disavow tool if you need it!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with multiple 301's pointing to the same page.
-
What if I have two dated articles that I merge into one updated article. Does it matter if I have two 301 redirects to the same URL?
-
with a 301 redirect? that's gonna be a huge htaccess file
-
Kill it and redirect if there are any backlinks incoming. Definitely.

Do we need to worry about internal duplicate content?
Hi, I have a question about internal duplicate content. We have a catalogue of around 4000 products. Most of these do have individual descriptions but for most of the products they contain a generic summary that includes a sentence to begin with that includes each product name. We're currently working on descriptions for each product, but as you can imagine it's quite a chore. I was wondering if there are actually any penalties for this or whether we can ignore the crawl errors from the moz report? Thanks in Advance!

Duplicate content because of member only restrictions on a forum.
Our website's Community Forum links to the membership profile pages, which by default are blocked for non-members. https://www.foodbloggerpro.com/community/ https://www.foodbloggerpro.com/community/member/1301/ We're getting warnings in Moz for duplicate content (and errors) on these member profile pages. Any ideas for how we can creatively solve this problem? Should we redirect those pages or just beef them up with more content? Just ignore it and assume that search spiders will be smart enough to figure it out? See attached video for further explanation. Community_Area.mp4

Duplicate Content
I have a question about duplicate content. (auto generated text).

Will google consider page 1 and page 2 as duplicate content? Page 1. You will find all the Amazon coupon codes and Amazon discount codes currently available listed below, if Amazon doesn't currently have any coupons available you may want to check for Amazon deals or find related coupon codes or promotional codes for similar online stores selling the same products as amazon.
We always have the latest coupon codes for Amazon which are updated daily, so if you can't find any Amazon coupons here then you won't find them anywhere else.
Shop online today at Amazon, and take advantage of the coupon codes that Amazon currently has on offer, these coupon codes, offer codes, and promo codes for Amazon may never be available again. Page 2. You will find all the Target coupon codes and Target discount codes currently available listed below, if Target doesn't currently have any coupons available you may want to check for Target deals or find related coupon codes or promotional codes for similar online stores selling the same products as Target.

Using a lightbox - possible duplicate content issues
Redesigning website in Wordpress and going to use the following lightbox plug-in http://www.pedrolamas.pt/projectos/jquery-lightbox/ Naming the original images that appear on screen as say 'sweets.jpg'
On-Page Optimization | | Jon-C
and the bigger version of the images as 'sweets-large.jpg' Alt text wise I would give both versions of the images slightly different descriptions. Do you think there would be any duplicate content issues with this? Anything I should do differently? I'm very wary of doing anything that Google is likely to think is naughty, so want to stay on their good side! Cheers

Creating Content for Several Local Keywords
I have a client who is in the lead generation business for a specific aesthetic service. The company basically generates leads through SEO and sells them to hundreds of local businesses across the US and Canada. There is some serious competition for the main service keyword (this is not the real keyword) e.g. “liposuction” and over the past year we have seen rankings fall significantly (from top 3 to 13-15). But... what I have found is that most of the traffic, particularly the highly converting traffic, comes from local keyword variations e.g. “liposuction in san diego”. However, these keywords are also highly competitive because there are several local businesses in these areas. How would you suggest creating content for these pages when they are all extremely similar and we need to target 100s of cities? For example the page “liposuction in san diego” is very similar to the page “liposuction in sacramento”, ect ect. Thanks for the help!

Duplicate Content
We offer Wellness programs for dogs and cats. A lot of the information is the same except for specifics that relate to young vs. senior pets. I have these different pages: Senior Wellness Kitten Wellness Puppy Wellness Adult Wellness Can each page have approx. 75% of the same text? Or should I rewrite each page so the information (though the same) appears unique.

Content ideas for different sections of a news website?
A news website I'm working on has pages for various sectors, much like any major news site (in this case for example - defence, energy, trade & finance etc.). I've been asked to add content of 150 words or more to each sector, containing keywords we're targeting. I can see the value of this SEO-wise but can't see how we can write anything that adds value for the user. I don't want to add some rubbish for the sake of keywords, I want the information to be useful. The best idea I can come up with is to write an overview of the challenges and topics making the news in each sector, perhaps a bit of historical detail - but I don’t think this will add much value from a user-perspective, and it's not something where there will be the resources available to update often (or to provide some 'best on the web' type info). Any other ideas? Or do you think my idea is a great one? ;-)The pages in question are like the majority of news pages; each item with a synopsis and the usual extra things like a poll and 'most read' box. I've looked at other news sites and can't see one that has any extra content in the way we require.Thanks.
