SeoMoz: Competitive domain analysis report doesn't add up?
-
Hi,
When I check OSE against the Competitive Domain Analysis report in my account the numbers are way off.
If the CDA report was 100%, OSE is showing 30% of that.
I'm looking at linking root domains with no filters applied.
Is the data not pulled from the same db?
Thanks.

Hey Bond,
Thanks for writing in with a great question. Both the campaign data and the data in OSE are pulled from the same Mozscape index, but OSE defaults to page metrics, so you will want to make sure that you are comparing domain metrics to domain metrics between the campaign and OSE. When I checked the domain metrics between your campaign and OSE, the data did match up correctly. I may be able to explain the comparison better through screenshots, but I wasn't sure if you wanted to share your campaign information publicly.
The only thing I am seeing that doesn't show data correctly is actually the second competitor in your campaign because it is set up as ww.competitor2.co.uk, rather than www.competitor2.co.uk, which skews the subdomain metrics in the campaign link analysis. If you update the subdomain in your campaign settings, you should start getting better data for that competitor in the rankings and link analysis.
If you would like me to send you the screenshots to explain how the campaign compares to OSE privately, please let me know and I will email that to you right away.
I hope this helps!
Chiaryn

Why is my domain not being crawled anymore?
I just noticed that right around 12/1/2012, SEOMoz stopped crawling all but two pages out of the 400 or so on my website at www.TrustworthyCare.com . I speculate that this is probably due to some dumb mistake I made at that time, but I can't for the life of me figure out what that mistake was. Before that, the weekly crawls included all 400 or so pages. I wonder whether it's something that changed in our .htaccess file. Here's how that file looks now; can anyone see what is wrong there, or perhaps offer other suggestions if it doesn't look like anything is wrong in it? Thanks! I can't find any inbound links that I know I have on open site, ahref or majestic. Does anyone know why?
Since the linkscape update before Christmas I have built a couple of links to fairly high quality sites. I can't find them on open site though or the other tools I mentioned. I'm a bit concerned there is an issue with my site. Does anyone have any idea why? I'm stumped. My site: www.emporiumofmanliness.co.uk

Why are the rankings of my keywords different to rankings from other programmes such as 'Access my Lan' and 'Firefly'? Does SEOMoz count 'Google Places and Maps' in their rank count? Im thinking this could explain the difference

Why isn't Ranking Updated?
I see that my rankings are not updated. Why is that so? Do we have to do something else for ranking to update or is it automatic? It's said that ranking updates every tuesday. Also when does the next Linkscape update take place? JGHjA.png

Why are SEOmoz Pro Keyword Ranking reports different between two 301-linked URLs?
Hi, My main domain is www.dancenut.com. I have this 301 URL redirected to www.dancenut.com/boston/. I set up an SEOmoz Pro campaign for each of these URLs in order to see if they were being treated differently in any way. In most cases the report results are identical, or the small differences are understandable. However, there is one big difference between the two sets of campaign reports. In the Keyword Ranking reports, the data for the Bing and Yahoo! reports are identical, but the data for the Google reports are dramatically different. Out of 21 keywords, 9 are listed in the top 50 for www.dancenut.com, but only 2 are listed in the top 50 for www.dancenut.com/boston/ (the specific positions are the same for the 2 keywords that are listed for both). Does this make any sense? Could the SEOmoz Pro data be wrong? If not, then I'm suspicious that Google may not be interpreting the 301 redirect properly. I don't think this could be fully explained by a 1-10% reduction in link juice due to the 301 because I have one keyword for which my site ranks #1 in Google, Bing, and Yahoo! with www.dancenut.com, but it doesn't even rank in the top 50 in Google with www.dancenut.com/boston/. And why would these differences only exist for Google? Any insight would be much appreciated! Andrew
