Using phrases like 'NO 1' or 'Best' int he title tag

Quick question - is it illegal, against any rule etc to use phrases such as
'The No 1 rest of the title tag | Brand Name'
on a site?

Yep, this would work within the travel sector - The UKs No1 Destination etc etc.
I think it would only benefit the CTR, if the offering is indeed the best, or the client is happy to claim they are the best at what they do.

Applies to Travel for sure. Personally I think if you have the "award" or proof that you own the status as No 1 then use it. Your title tag is like your sales pitch. If you sell shit to me and you are the No 1 or the Best and don't say it, you might have missed new customer. I am more likly to click on something that claims to be No 1 or the Best, however, if I get there and it isn't true then bey bey. So I don't think it could hurt unless it's not true.

I was thinking more on the lines of improving CTR, as opposed to focusing blindly on a keyword stuffed title purely for the rank, like all the others in the top 5 in this niche.
Now the sites ranking, a more prominent way of attracting / making the listing stand out is required, so looking for valid options.

How many people search for "no1 android phone"? No many, so why put it in your title?
I would do some keyword research and target those terms.

I wouldn't have thought it would cause any problems as long as it was true.
If you can truthfully claim to be the 'best' or 'No1' in your business market its worth double checking that there are keywords based around this for your brand/business before changing your title tag.

Should I be worried about our 'Duplicate' content
Hi guys... I've just been working through some issues to give our site a little cleanup. I'm working through our duplicate content issues (we have some legitimate duplicate pages that need removing, and some of our dynamic content is problematic. Are web developers are going to sort with canonical tags this week.) However... There are some pages that are actually different products, but are very similar pages that are 'triggering' MOZ to say we have duplicate pages. Using Canonical Tags on Every Page
I'm doing competitive research and noticed that one of our competitors (who outranks us) uses canonical tags on every page on their site. The canonical tags reference the page they are on. For example. www.competitor.com/product has a canonical tag of www.competitor.com/product. Does anyone use this practice? It seems strange to me. Thank you, Kristen

I'm puzzled
Last week we decided to run a facebook campaign with a small offer, any way cut a long story short. www.specialistsonlinepaints.co.uk was dropped by google when the penguin update took place in 2012, however it has been re included by google but nothing really returned in terms of search results. so our facebook campaign reached over 3k of people according to the stats but no one purchased anything or even clicked to visit the website. am I missing something in terms on onpage, black listing etc? Im at a loss at the minute.

Using display: none in h1 tag
Hello, For the h1 tag on my landing page, I currently have 'Welcome to Edison Ford'. I was thinking of adding the keyword I'm targeting (property maintenance bristol) to the h1 tag which would look like this 'Welcome to Edison Ford Property Maintenance Bristol' Would it be a good idea to wrap the property maintenance bristol part in a span tag and add 'display: none;' to the styling? Best title tag structure?
Hi, In the below example, which one do you think would work best if any. The website is called greatshoes.co.uk (fictitious) The category is 'work shoes' and a page under this cat is lets say 'Size 9 work shoes' I tend to build my title tags like this: size 9 work shoes, cheap size 9 work shoes | greatshoes.co.uk BUT I have read on here it should be more like this: size 9 work shoes < work shoes | greatshoes.co.uk Does anyone think it would make a difference when targeting for the term 'size 9 work shoes' which title tag I use.
