Are there better & inexpensive third party website analytics software over Google Analytics?
-
I've heard there are some third-party software that provide greater depth of information than Google Analytics, such as mouse tracking, heat mapping, video snapshots ect.
Can anyone recommend a good program to use? I've tried a basic web-search but there seems to be a great variety of different ones.

I'll second what Paul said about Crazy Egg...it's amazing! I still use GA as well but I absolutely LOVE the Heatmap and have made many optimization decisions after doing tests with it running.

If you are interested in knowing the value of your visitors and why they are not converting then probably you should consider moving towards KISSmetrics as this is one of the best tool that can tell you about the value of visitors and how fixing things can help you increase your conversion rate!

Hi Paul,
Thank you for the detailed response. You've made a very good point here.
Specifically, what I'm looking to try find out is more about the 'buying process' of our customers. While Google Analytics can tell me what pages get the most hits, basic vistor demographics, I'd like to investigate more of the 'individual buyers process' on the website.
For example, an individual reaches the home page, then where do they go? What sequence of pages do they go to and then what is the end result. Do they file a web inquiry or do they consistently exit on a particular page?
Also - I think mouse tracking would be beneficial for this purpose. If you have any other recommendation of area's I should look into regarding identifying online buyer behaviour I'd greatly appreciate it.
I am still in the intermediate stage of learning web analytics and SEO and am looking to take it to the next level and identify key data that would result in physical alterations to the website and online marketing strategy to increase both website hits and conversion rates.
Thank you again,
Justin.

There are so many analytics options out there that it's pretty difficult to make recommendations without knowing what it is you want to accomplish, Justin. Each will have their own very specific purposes and strengths. And weaknesses. For example most specific tools will do a very poor job of overall analytics. So they need to be run in conjunction with other tools.
What specifically do you want to know about your site that Google Analytics isn't telling you?
If you're looking specifically for heat-mapping, Crazy Egg is pretty much the industry standard. As a Pro member you can use your Pro Perks to get your first two months free.
But it's always better to have a clear plan for what and why you want to measure first. Then find a tool that delivers the data you need. Otherwise, all the new data will look very interesting but the time spent won't be justified by any improvement.
Hope that helps?
Paul

What would the US traffic increase be for a website YoY if all Google SERP rankings remained the same?
This question has come up a few times with some of our clients and I've spent some time researching this question, but I can't find an answer online so hopefully, someone at MOZ has this data available to them with all the data they collect. The data points that would be needed to answer this question off the top of my head: Increase in the # of Google Searches in the US YoY The decrease in CTR for organic results "10 blue links" which take a searcher off of Google YoY, as Google continues to keep more searchers on Google.com with rich snippets, increased AdWords prominence, AdWords extensions, etc I'm sure this greatly varies per industry, but an average for all industries is all that is needed to answer this client question. Many thanks in advance and I've included a video which hopefully helps to better explain the search "plus/minus" that we can expect to see as SEOs in 2018. WF1yLlJC6LetnpbD3

Should my commerce store be on a separate domain to my main website
Hi, I have a brochure style website mycompanyname.com that gives lots of detail about my company and what services we offer etc. I am soon going to be adding an commerce solution (haven't decided on opencart or paid such as shopify yet). I was wondering... is the best way to have a shop to have it on a completely separate domain like mycompanynameonlinestore.com or simply add it to a sub folder on my main brochure style website like mycompanyname.com/onlinestore Many thanks to anyone who takes the time to help me make up my mind!!!

My website disappears off google!
So this might be kinda of a weird question... Every morning and night I check the ranking of a website that I am building.. The ranking has gone up a lot the last two months. It went from the fifth page to now the second page. I have a issue where some days I check Google my website is completely gone! I go through every page for my keyword and it's not there! After a couple of days of frustration I check again and all of a sudden it is there but now at a higher ranking... I went through the code to make sure there's a not a not follow code in the robots.txt page... Btw another weird thing is so then I look up my website on a google out of country like google.sg and I'm ranking first page like number 5 but again disappeared off google usa. Literally driving my crazy.. does anyone know why this could be? Btw the first time it disappeared I went into webmasters and sent a request because I thought I got penalized but they responded they could not find any spam and I was NOT penalized...

Does Google recognise locality
We have been undertaking some website work recently and have identified that within our own geographical location of Hull, the www.styletech.co.uk website is first on page one. However, when moving approximately 30 miles away we are on Googles fourth page. We are in an independent network area e.g. Kingston Communications rather than BT, would this have an impact on how Google responds?

Googles 'freshness' update and how it may affect Estate Agents.
We have some clients who have raised concerns over how this new update will affect them. They are an Estate Agents who regularly update their property portfolio, blogs and news section etc. Can you advise how they may or may not be directly affected? Thank you.
