Which forum platform has the best "SEO Functionality"?
-
I have used vBulletin with vBSEO for a number of years and have been happy with the SEO results that I have achieved. However, vBulletin's recent releases have become unstable, full of bugs and are not secure.
I am intending on starting some new forums in the near future and would like to move away from vBulletin.
I have heard good things about Xenforo and IP Boards. Does anybody have any experience with either platforms built in SEO functionality?

Looks interesting! I have never heard of that platform before, it might be a tad expensive for what I require.
-
Thanks - that helps a lot!
I think Xenforo seems the most logical choice at the moment!

Have a look at http://vanillaforums.com/ I quite like the way they add gamification and badges etc You can see it in action on Penny Arcade http://forums.penny-arcade.com/categories/artists-corner

I have experience with IP Boards (invisionpower.com). Their software could be very powerful, but you will need to know some coding to be able to do certain things. I haven't used it in over 1 year, but everytime I wanted to do something basic, it seemed like I had to do coding. At the time I thought those features were something that should be standard with no coding required.
Xenforo was AWESOME. Look at their demo. You can request one and I think it's for 3 days. You can extend it too.
I work with vBulletin and they have too many security issues. I used to need to upgrade almost once per month.
If I was able to rank them in order, it would go like this:
-
Xenforo
-
vbulletin
-
IP Boards
I have never used VBSEO so I can't say anything about it.
Hope that helps.

[Organization schema] Which Facebook page should be put in "sameAs" if our organization has separate Facebook pages for different countries?
We operate in several countries and have this kind of domain structure:
Technical SEO | | Telsenome
example.com/us
example.com/gb
example.com/au For our schemas we've planned to add an Organization schema on our top domain, and let all pages point to it. This introduces a problem and that is that we have a separate Facebook page for every country. Should we put one Facebook page in the "sameAs" array? Or all of our Facebook pages? Or should we skip it altogether? Only one Facebook page:
{
"@type": "Organization",
"@id": "https://example.com/org/#organization",
"name": "Org name",
"url": "https://example.com/org/",
"sameAs": [
"https://www.linkedin.com/company/xxx",
"https://www.facebook.com/xxx_us"
], All Facebook pages:
{
"@type": "Organization",
"@id": "https://example.com/org/#organization",
"name": "Org name",
"url": "https://example.com/org/",
"sameAs": [
"https://www.linkedin.com/company/xxx",
"https://www.facebook.com/xxx_us"
"https://www.facebook.com/xxx_gb"
"https://www.facebook.com/xxx_au"
], Bonus question: This reasoning springs from the thought that we only should have one Organization schema? Or can we have a multiple sub organizations?0 -

Does the order of results from "site:www.example.com" tell us anything?
Does google rank in order of page authority with "site:www.example.com" or is it random? As most of the results of the first 6 pages for our site are internal search results pages ( eg www.example.com/search/product-results)

The fact that search results are index at all is frustrating, they are not linked to internally or externally. The open site explorer does not have any back links for any of the search pages, and I checked the submitted site map and no search urls are submitted, so I don't know how google are finding the search urls. Also tested some of the search urls with aherf and no back links. But since its ranking the search pages ahead of the category(landing) pages with "site:" has me worried that not only are they indexing the urls, but they giving them higher page authority0 -
Implementation of rel="next" & rel="prev"
Hi All, I'm looking to implement rel="next" & rel="prev", so I've been looking for examples. I looked at the source code for the MOZ.com forum, if anyone one is going to do it properly MOZ are. I noticed that the rel="next" & rel="prev" tags have been implemented in the a href tags that link to the previous and next pages rather than in the head. I'm assuming this is fine with Google but in their documentation they state to put the tags in the . Does it matter? Neil.

Jigoshop "add to cart" producing 302 redirects
Hi, My site is throwing thousands of 302 redirect warnings on crawl for the add to cart process in my Wordpress/Jigshop online store. A sample url the crawl references is: | | https://morrowsnuts.com/product/the-best-of-the-best-8-oz/?add-to-cart=6117&_n=9773652185 | | I have read several other threads here that are similar in nature but haven't discovered a way to eliminate this. I am a store owner and with only partial technology skills and I don't know what to try next. I posted the problem with Jigoshop but I am not sure if they will provide a solution since this was the first time they heard of this. The site is Morrow's Nut House located at: https://morrowsnuts.com Thanks in advance for any direction or suggestions for me on next steps, John

Local SEO and Penguin
All, One of my client's sites was hit by Penguin. The business has lost almost all of its organic rankings but is still holding on for a handful of local searches for some of its satellite offices. We've built a new site and are slowly building domain authority. My question is this: at what point do I swap out the new site's location URL for the old URL in Google places? I don't want to risk the existing local placement which is all they have left for the time being. Thanks, John

Google & async="true"
Hello, Any idea if Google (or Bing) parses/indexes content from scripts that are loaded using the async="true" attribute? In other words, is asynchronously loaded content indexable? Thank you.

Does Google follow links in "id" tag?
Hello, For functionality purposes, I need to wrap separate blocks of content with a tag. The main question is whether Google will follow this URL, even though it is not a hyperlink on the page, just a URL used for functionality purposes. We will have 10-20 of these types of span tags with a different URL for each one, and we just want to be sure that Google will not be following these URLs that are not links. Thanks!
