Can Press Releases Be Beneficial for SEO?
-
Can it hurt your website if there are thousands of links to your website from multiple websites with identical content?
Is there a right way to use PR for SEO?
-
Press Releases are meant to get picked up by lots of media outlets. That's the point. For example, if you submit to PR Web, your press release will end up on hundreds of sites. I know from experience that it does not hurt you as I do daily for my clients and my own sites/ companies. It helps as long as they are optimized well and have high quality content that people will want to read. Google et al will select the "best" one(s) to keep in th SERPs and the rest will drift away. Even though those pages with the press release still exist, they have no impact positively or negatively for you, and you won't get a duplicate content penalty as the search engines knows how to treat News.
I agree with Chris that you must understand where they fit into your overall strategy. They are only one small piece of the process. If you build a strategy relying on press releases, you are going to be losing that treadmill battle. -
I also had done press release, avoiding lots of links and focus on publishing on a good web. But i notice that the press release and the entire article has been copied after on another web.
Is that dangerous for a site

Having thousands of links from a handful of sites that are exactly the same can hurt you.
Yes, press releases can help with SEO--to a small degree. Don't build your back link strategy around them, though.

I'm curious about sbrault74's follow up question. What is the right approach to doing press releases?
-
If the press release is picked up by another site yes. And if you have 3 links back to your website it will count triple. But don't do any more than 3, it will count as spamming.
Companies have whole business models built on this.

Domain Forwarding? Beneficial?
Good Morning! My father asked me about Domain Forwarding yesterday and it's impact on SEO. The example he gave was if he had website xyz.com and it was an educational website that sold anger management programs would purchasing the domain socialskills.com and pointing that domain at xyz.com help rank for social skills? My immediate answer was no it would not simply because Google doesn't associate any content with that domain, and Domain Forwarding is different that a redirect, which would apply if a website is already established. Am I correct in my thinking? Thanks guys!

I can't help but think something is wrong with my SEO
So we re-launched our site about a month ago, and ever since we've seen a dramatic drop in search results (probably due to some errors that were made) when changing servers and permalink structure. But, I can't help but think something else is at play here. When we write something, I can check 24 hours later, and if I copy the Title verbatim, but we don't always show up in SERPs. In fact, I looked at a post today, and the meta description showing is not the same, but when I check the source code, it's right. What shows up in Google: http://d.pr/i/jGJg What's actually in the source code: http://d.pr/i/p4s8 Why is this happening? Website is The Tech Block

Newbie to SEO and SEOMOZ help
Hey everyone i just came across SEOMOZ today, i have been building websites for 3 years now but SEO is something which has always been a scary topic to consider trying to master. I have made a decision to do this in 2012 and i have been looking for a software package which can stear me and teach me. I have been reading the site help today and i feel totally swamped! i have created my campaign but a lot of the results dont make much sense to me and i am unsure of how to fix the errors they found. For instance the crawl diagnostics shows i have 5 4xx client errors. They show me a link to the page where the error is http://www.mydomain.com/category/latest-news/function.require but when i go to see what this is i just find an error 404 not found page. How do i go about removing this error if i have no idea where the problem is? I have started reading SEO User guide and beginers guide and i know it is going to take me a long time to get use to this all, but i am struggling to find the starting point and hope someone can possible help me find the first few steps. Thanks

E-Commerce SEO
Dear SeoMoz fans, I'm really glad to be a part of the community. Just have a quick question. I run a marketplace similar to eBay where users sell the products. I would like some suggestions on how to effectively proceed with SEO for an ecommerce marketplace of this type. Should I be proceed developing product review or product comparison landing pages and build links towards them as often suggested or should I consider alternative marketing methods? Looking forward to your replies.
