Article Directory In Moderation?
-
Would it be worth submitting to a couple dozen article directories (like EzineArticles) just one time? Each with a unique article? Or have these links just become toxic all together?
I know that people have abused article directories, but what about in moderation as part of a larger, overall SEO plan?

"Google will slam you into a wall, pick you up, throw you on the floor, punch you in the junk, toss you out of a window, and then start dating your mom." beautifully put!!

Article Directories are worse that worthless. Don't waste your time. Remember the simple adage: If you're doing anything to increase SEO that does not help increase the user experience, Google will slam you into a wall, pick you up, throw you on the floor, punch you in the junk, toss you out of a window, and then start dating your mom.
There is no more cheating the system. Even if 2.0 wasn't the final nail in the "good ol' days of SEO" coffin, it's close. An SEO's new job is riding their clients to create content and to participate in social. No more shortcuts. Sorry!

I wouldn't waste your time to be honest. Article directories, even Ezine Articles, took a huge hit and I honestly don't think they even drive that much traffic. We used to use them a while back and they drove hardly any traffic so I'd focus on other areas. If you are going to the effort of creating unique content, use it as a way of attracting people to your website, you'll get much better results from it.

Should I pay to be in the Yahoo! Directory or whatever it is now?
I've been trying to find a definite answer and have had no luck. The $300 a myear isn't an issue, but if being in the directory ads no value I'd just as well keep that money.

Blog articles on website vs submitting to article submission sites
I had some articles created for a client. The site is on WordPress. I'm wondering if it is best to add the articles to the blog page of the website or if it is better to submit the articles to ezine articles. Or can I submit the same article to both places? Is there a strategy that should be followed generally speaking when creating content for the blog vs article submission sites? The goal is to increase the ranking for target keywords. I realize that the answers could take a lot of different directions. But generally speaking I would like to know, If I have an article where is the best place to add it to achieve better rankings for target keywords? Thanks for the help.

Should I abandon directories?
To say I'm new to SEO would be an understatement. I am heading up marketing for a firm and they have zero web presence. I've used Alexa.com to check out our competition and one site in particular has about 150 sites linking to it. I dove in deeper and created a spreadsheet. The majority of these links are sketchy, paid directory listings (or what look sketchy to me). The confusing part is, they rank first on Google when I search for industry keywords. Is it because of these directories? Should I follow them or avoid them completely? I'm planning on creating content and pushing that out to reputable industry sites. I figured getting links/mentions from these would help SEO. Should I only target these high value sites or would submitting articles to the directories with "article" sections offer any assistance? It seems as though my SEO knowledge is limited to less-than admirable tactics, although not by choice. I am planning to dive into paid search in the coming weeks but wanted to know of any "ground work" I could do aside from pushing content and paid search. It seems like there are 1,000's of these paid directory sites and I find it hard to believe they will offer me a benefit...it's just the competition is on them and something is working. Sorry this is so remedial, but I need to figure out where to go!

Another Yahoo directory question
Hi all Is there any way of seeing if the Yahoo directory is likely to be beneficial for my site? I can see that about 9 of my competitors are in there, and the category that they are listed in has been indexed by google. What other factors could help me choose whether to submit my site? Thanks,

Can Low Quality Directories Hurt?
I realize that links from low quality directories aren't of much value. Having said that, can doing this kind of linking actually penalize a site?

Article Links
I write and publish artcles. Typically I publish them on a few top article sites like EZineArticles. The articles then get picked up by other sites, often numbering in the hundreds. All of the articles are published with a link back to our website using a keyword. Are there any SEO risks in this type of link proliferation?
