PR1 and PR2 backlinks
-
We're doing some content marketing. I've heard that it is a good idea to target even PR1 and PR2 sites (small DA sites). I'm concerned about these sites disappearing after a few months, as we've found that losing a backlink can sting a bit and be worse than never having it. Though this isn't as big a deal any more.
Anyways, can somebody say when a PR1/PR2 backlink would be appropriate to go after? Some of them would be easy and if it's appropriate I'd like to include them. So far they would only pass our standards if they are
Above PR0
Look like a white hat, quality site from the outside
Have a clean backlink profile
Look like they're going to stick around
Successful Social Media Accounts a plus
What are you guys' criteria for including these sites? Do you gain value from them?
-
Quality content is good but it's not enough by itself. Here's the "formula":
- Define and understand the wants and needs of the target audience(s). (marketing)
- Research and interact with your audience(s) and learn what blogs and social profiles influence them. (social media)
- Research and establish relationships with audience influencers to understand their goals (PR)
- Create content that achieves the goals of the influencers and that the audience will consume, endorse and share. (content creation)
- Implement authorship and understand what makes a link valuable (SEO)
- Reach out to influencers to publish your content
Rinse and repeat.
-
Link building is a necessary task, as links are still the primary factor that Google looks at when evaluating your site.
I would go for the highest PR links you think you can get. PageRank is logarithmic, which means a PR3 links is roughly 100 times higher on the PR scale than a PR2 link. It can be easier to approach smaller sites when you are just starting out, but if you have the chance at getting a PR5 link, that's worth a lot more than getting a dozen PR2s.

Chris,
Being new at Link Building, would it be appropriate to reach out to low PR and easy pickings to get some traction. I started a campaign for this client targeting high PR sites and it took too much time to get anywhere. Link building is such a huge task and I almost just want to add high quality content instead with the time that I have. Your thoughts?
-
Bob,
Don't get focused on the PR of your back links. Relevancy and quality are what matter most. A thematically relevant site with quality content and a PR of 0 that links out to you for all the right reasons is a good link. It may be a future PR 1,2,3 or more site and it can bring traffic to your site, in addition to balancing out anchor text and providing domain diversity. Another thing, almost all sites come and go so basing your link building on the likelihood of a site being around in a few years isn't a good strategy to follow.

Will it help my SEO if I: find local businesses with a good DA & low spam score select businesses that are somehow related to mine (Insurance Agency) offer to guest post and include a backlink on their blog ( ask them if they'd like to reciprocate) For example, businesses such as

Rankings Dropped After New Backlinks.
I have a low-traffic website (under 100 unique visitors per day) and I've encountered a strange issue started yesterday morning. I acquired three back-links, one of these back-links is contextual and the other two are site-wide. The site-wide back-links are from PA 40+ blogs. It looks like the back-links are already indexed by Google. Despite these new back-links, my rankings across multiple keywords have dropped several positions. I'm new to SEO, but I would assume new back-links would improve my rankings. None of these back-links are low quality links, they are from real established blogs with high domain and page authority values. Could anyone give me insights into why my rankings may have dropped with new back-links?

Best Way to Filter Backlinks
When analyzing backlinks and trying to get the same one for another site there are a ton of backlinks to go through. I know that if the DA of the link is then pages on the site might be a good choice like adding an article or something of the sort to the site but as far a the same page goes you can typically only do this with a comment on the page. My question is, given a huge list of backlinks from multiple sites, is there an easy way to analyze the links and determine which ones I can copy without manually checking hundreds of links?

Best Name for Business and Backlinks / SEO
Sorry if this is a basic question I should know the answer for. We have just acquired the .org for a moderately well searched keyword set. Our objective is to fight for rank specifically on this one set of two keywords. We want make sure our site is setup and business named optimally for this. Here is my question. What is the best business name for SEO and keyword rich backlinks, or anything else I'm not thinking of? KEYWORDS: Blue Widget DOMAIN: BlueWidget.org BUSINESS NAME OPTIONS: A) simply BlueWidget.org. We like this but do we lose some benefit of "Blue Widget" with a space on backlinks? **B) Blue Widget Foundation. Is this better because people will reference us by the keywords with a space "The Blue Widget Foundation", instead of "from the people at BLUEWIDGET.org"? ** Am I missing anything important here in the name? We just want to start everything off on the right foot. Thank you Moz. Just joined and my first post.
