How is this page ranking?

Hi.
A client of mine is being outranked by a competitor whose landing page does not include the keyword within their page content AT ALL. Nor does their URL. Nor do any image alts. And their page title features the keyword in the middle of it, not at the start. Their link profile is not great with directories and the like. They are not socially active..
I am confused! I thought content on a page absolutely had to include the keyword to get ranked for it.
Here's the page: www.springsoft.ie, keyword is "water softeners"
Any thoughts I would appreciate.

I would be willing to bet that they just not have their poor backlinks penalized or removed from ranking them. Give it time and keep doing things the right way

Cheers for the comments. Agreed on the social side, but it still baffles me that this keywordless page is doing as well as it is.

@Shanaki - I think that it is their home page (with a few links) against clients inner page (no links) is the major factor. that said, it would have been my experience and belief that you really needed to include the keyword within the content (perhaps not as much as my client does!) to get ranked well for it. this it seems, is not the case.

On a quick look, they obviously have more links and a higher PA and DA. But as you pointed out a lot of their links are low quality. If Google has not disallowed those links, I am sure it will happen at some point and it will no longer help them rank.
Your on-page is much better but I would remove the keyword a few times. You have it on-page way too much. Neither of you are doing a lot with social stuff.
I bet if you were to do some legit backlinking and social marketing you would outrank them quickly

I think is about many factors, that`s happen to mine too.
I have more good landing pages then competitor (with A grade on Moz), but the competitor`s pages on focused keyword are better.
Why? I think we need to consider the link back too, the page authority (for example your is lower, then competitor), and so on. Try also more social, more links to your Landing page. It will take a while until you will get positions.

Well it is in their page title and within their site internal links a little. Also in meta keywords which is odd that they still use that.

Specific Ranking Mystery
Hello Mozzers I don't understand this specific ranking example, maybe somebody can help? For the serach term "elipslife" on Google Switzerland a client's page ranks around position 13. A competitor's page ranks at 9. And I don't get why: the competitor's page has no content and its DA is lower. Its PA is higher so I set a link in the client's homepage navigation a couple of weeks ago to lift the client's page PA above that of the competitor. This is not yet reflected in OSE currently however. Any ideas as to what may be the cause? Thx, Chris

Pages for similar keywords?
I have a site that wants to target the keywords listed below. They are a small company with just a few ski chalets in Val d'Isere, a ski resort in France. They don't have ski chalets in any other ski resort. Val d'Isere chalets

Why isn't our site being shown on the first page of Google for a query using the exact domain, when its pages are indeed indexed by Google
When I type our domain.com as a query into Google, I only see one of our pages on the homepage, and it's in 4th position. It seems though, that all pages of the site are indexed by google when I type in the query "site:domain.com". There was an issue at the site launch, where the robots.txt file was left active for around two weeks. Would this have been responsible for the fact that another domain ranks #1 when we type in our own domain? It has been around a couple of months now since the site was launched. Thanks in advance.

Page Title
My website was hacked last November and then again last week. Prior to the hacking we were at number one in Google.co.uk for our main search term "nile cruises' for years. After last November's hacking we dropped to about position 4 and after last week we are at position 7. Ima rebuilding the lost data and I am having to create new Title and Description meta data for each of the indexed pages. I am taking the opportunity to try and ensure my titles and descriptions are good and the correct length, etc but wondered about the best title format. I set our home page title over the weekend as: Nile Cruise | Leading ABTA & ATOL Bonded UK Nile Cruise Specialist I was going to try and cover 3 keyphrases in the title like this: Nile Cruise | Nile Cruises | Nile Cruise Bargains But I thought that might look a bit spammy because the 3 phrases are very similar. Should I have more than one keyword for a page or should I make separate pages for each keyword even when they are similar? Will Google penalize me for making similar pages? My homepage no longer ranks for a keyword, instead a page from the blog now appears in the results
Hello, Our site used to rank for a specific keyword - "eco products", with a link going to the homepage. However, in the last few weeks, we've noticed that the home page no longer ranks for this keyword, and instead the second result on the page is a link to a catagory page on our blog.
