Is there a direct correlation between google places and organic listing ?
-
Basically, I have examined several examples that the sites which are included in Google places are not listed in organic results in page 1.
For example, If my site is listed in google places. is it going to affect my ranking for the same keyword?.

Google still has 2 different algos and 2 different display styles for local. The main algo that shows up we call blended and that's the one everyone refers to above, where your organic listing will be blended in or absorbed into the Places listings.
The other algo (the old Places algo) does not show up as much any more, but when it does, the organic and Places listings are separate so you can easily get 2 listings if both site and Place are strong.
Here's an example Poway Dentist: https://www.google.com/search?q=poway+Dentist&ie=UTF-8
(The telltale sign that that's the old algo is the link above the pack that says "Dentist near Poway, CA"
Both listings are in the Places "pack" plus in organic as well. But again this style listing does not show up much any more and typically only for smaller towns or less competitive search terms.

Hi Abith,
Typically, yes, your inclusion in the local results is likely to cause the disappearance of your previous organic rank. This is because your previous organic rank will be subsumed into your new blended local rank. It has been uncommon since the Venice update of early 2012 for any business to have more than one page one spot in the SERPs. Exceptions to this:
-
In areas with low competition (like a single bakery serving a large rural area with no competitors) or areas for which Google lacks much data.
-
When a second, interior page of a website is strong enough to achieve a second organic ranking, independent of the index page which is typically what is used on the Google+ Local page.
Sometimes, I'm surprised by the exceptions I run into out there in the wild, but typically, no, if you have a local ranking, you generally won't also have a page 1 organic ranking.

404s in Google Search Console and javascript
The end of April, we made the switch from http to https and I was prepared for a surge in crawl errors while Google sorted out our site. However, I wasn't prepared for the surge in impossibly incorrect URLs and partial URLs that I've seen since then. I have learned that as Googlebot grows up, he'she's now attempting to read more javascript and will occasionally try to parse out and "read" a URL in a string of javascript code where no URL is actually present. So, I've "marked as fixed" hundreds of bits like /TRo39,

etc., etc.... But they are also returning hundreds of otherwise correct URLs with a .html extension when our CMS system generates URLs with a .uts extension like this: https://www.thompsoncigar.com/thumbnail/CIGARS/90-RATED-CIGARS/FULL-CIGARS/9012/c/9007/pc/8335.html
when it should be:
https://www.thompsoncigar.com/thumbnail/CIGARS/90-RATED-CIGARS/FULL-CIGARS/9012/c/9007/pc/8335.uts Worst of all, when I look at them in GSC and check the "linked from" tab it shows they are linked from themselves, so I can't backtrack and find a common source of the error. Is anyone else experiencing this? Got any suggestions on how to stop it from happening in the future? Last month it was 50 URLs, this month 150, so I can't keep creating redirects and hoping it goes away. Thanks for any and all suggestions!

Google search analytics position - how is it worked out
In our Google search analytic s graphs total clicks and impressions appear as a sold line on the graph(ie showing a result for each day) Position only shows as an occasional dot or line - not a continuous result for each day) sometimes there are days with no result for position. How do google get these results

Pages fluctuating +/- 70 positions in Google SERPs?
I've got some pages that appear somewhere around #25 in Google. Every now and then, it just goes away from the top 100 results for a few days (even up to a week) and then it comes back. I've got other pages that rank around #8 which falls down to about #75 for a while and then it comes back. But while a page may be gone from the top 100 results in the US, it still ranks at about the same place everywhere else in the world (+/- 10 positions). I've seen this happen in the past but never it happened so often. What gives?!?

When did Google include display results per page into their ranking algorithm?
It looks like the change took place approx. 1-2 weeks ago. Example: A search for "business credit cards" with search settings at "never show instant results" and "50 results per page", the SERP has a total of 5 different domains in the top 10 (4 domains have multiple results). With the slider set at "10 results per page", there are 9 different domains with only 1 having multiple results. I haven't seen any mention of this change, did I just miss it? Are they becoming that blatant about forcing as many page views as possible for the sake of serving more ads?

The Google/Yahoo Connection
I have been telling myself and clients for a while that you do not need to specially SEO things for different search engines. While I stand by this (staunchly) I can't help but notice how SLOW yahoo is to pick up my SEO updates and rank them as compared to google. Sometimes I see Rank increases within a day or two (or sooner) But Yahoo is still well behind in their caching and calculations.

Google Update?
We have a website that for the past several weeks has been very consistent at between 13,500 and 14,200 daily visits and this site received 15,600 last Thursday. THIS week, Monday is at 22,200, Tuesday is at 26,200, and at mid-day today (at about our traffic halfway point in the day) we're already at 14,000 today. This was a site that was bringing about 14,000 visits as of May 16th last year and dropped to 11,000 the following week. The traffic to this site this week is so far beyond statistical analysis that there must have been something that happened.
