Is my authorship working?
-
I am not certain if my authorship is working or not. If I go into google incognito, and search for my exact title of a new article, or any of them that are over a week old, then I will see my image and 'by My Name' which tells me its working.
When I go to structured data testing tool and I enter the URL, I will get:
Authorship Testing Result****Page does not contain authorship markupNow on my webpage NEWS section, it has a 'by My Name' at the top, and if the user clicks it it will bring me to my G+ account. When you go further into an actual article that link no longer works.http://bit.ly/14k8Zys you can see here.So is my authorship working or not? Seems to me it is or I wouldnt find myself when using chrome incognito, but I find it wierd that googles tool is telling me authorship is not working

Hi Demetrios,
I'm not sure if this has been answered as it is coming up unanswered; however, I just tested it and it appears to be working correctly for the /news/ page (http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.studentdebtrelief.us%2Fnews%2F); however, the author tag is not on your main domain. If you add it to your main domain as well, I believe it will resolve all of your problems.
Thanks,

Thanks didnt know that existed in WMT. Yea I do have authorship on all my articles, thanks!

Demetrios, on the newspage i see the link: demotrios soumaidis on google+. As you said this link works fine.
When i go to an article on the website i see the following: Posted on June 5, 2013 by Demetrios Sourmaidis • 0 CommentsYour name here doesn't have rel=author. It does have class=author though.
If you add the rel=author tag here all should be fine.Hope i answered your question
-
Hi Demetrios,
First you are using this structure: <a rel="<a class="attribute-value">author</a>" href="https://plus.google.com/111273018705499833271">Demetrios Sourmaidis on Google+a>, while it should be <a rel="<a class="attribute-value">author</a>" href="https://plus.google.com/111273018705499833271?rel=author">Demetrios Sourmaidis on Google+a>
Have you verified the page in your G+ profile? You should link to the site where your posts are and a link to your G+ profile should be there.
Anyway, if your picture, and data is showing up in the snippet while you search, it means it is working. Try using GWT and under Labs you can find "Author Stats" that will show you the pages that are being recognized as your creations and some traffic data.
You can find more info on the link structure I mentioned here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1408986
Hope that helps!

Does social work for e-commerce?
So, social these days is hot. But is there anyone who can report some figure about a real, documented, analytically documented, success in using social for e-commerce? There's a lot of presentations like this one saying it's great, it's a big impact, etc... But how? And what about figures of sales, or traffic, or something you can measure... Which had a significant spike thanks to a social network attempt? I am asking because I tried myself to use facebook for e-commerce, and we tried a lot: like and share buttons on content (pointing to the url of the content) like and share button on homepage (linked to the fan page) regular (three times a day) content being published on fanpage, original quality content (guidelines on products, independent test), well crafted (copy including catchy questions), original images designed by a graphic designer following all facebook guideline (smiling people, plain background) facebook ad campaign to increase likes (target audience = fans of brands sold) facebook ad remarketing facebook integration on the website publishing (with user consent) product reviews, buying action, website reviews, on their wall/user-feed (all with dynamically generated images showing happy smiling faces, product bought and catchy phrase) After 6 months and around 15k euro spent the result is: above 10k likes on fanpage above 1k likes on content pages orders originated by fan page negligible (less than 10) orders originated by facebook ads negligible (less than 80 with a coverage of 2.5M users, declining through time with 75% of the orders in the first two months and less than 5 on the sixth month) orders originated by remarketing negligible (less than 10 with a coverage of 7k users) orders originated by customer reviews... so and so... 8 orders out of 300 customer reviews (coverage is unknown but 15 out of 300 would be a decent 2.5% CR even with just 300 users seeing the reviews) My conclusion is either we are really dumb at using social for e-commerce, or we wasted our time... Anyone had some experience to share?

Why isn't open graph working for this URL?
When I post this URL (http://goo.gl/iDMsJq) to my Facebook page, the image is small, and it isn't pulling the correct description. I checked FB object debugger, and it looks fine - so why isn't it working properly when I post to Facebook? https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.healthline.com%2Fhealth-slideshow%2Fquit-smoking-timeline

Authorship without Google+ - Ideas and strategies
Hi everyone, I am currently coaching several companies on Content Marketing, Authorship etc and how to implement these techniques at an institutional level - more here. My question is - Can an author reap the benefits of authorship in all search engines simultaneously without linking to Google + and becoming entangled in the Google Circles phenomena? I know don't laugh. 🙂 I know it seems like an ignorant question, but there must be a way. Is there a possibility of doing this with Author Schema's http://schema.org/Article? Will Google treat them the same way as Google +? My clients are not happy about getting so entangled with Google + and leaving out the other search engines. Thanks Carla

Authorship's Back. Could a custom URL be why?
Hey Everyone, First, thanks to everyone for providing me suggestions on how to get my authorship picture back. Sure enough, we did it get it back, but not for any reason that makes sense to me. We got it back within hours of changing our g+ url to a custom one (google provided us with one a few months ago, but I didn't like it, so I didn't change it). Well, now I figured, why not? We have to do something to get our authorship back, and after making that change within hours, we had our picture displaying again. While I know this could be a coincidence, we haven't written anything new since we lost it in mid December. So, it can't be some influx of great content. And, since google is getting more strict about authorship, I don't see how we would have lost it in the first place, only to get it back without anything additional worked on yet. The only change is the custom URL. I know this is not ANY sort of scientific proof, but I figured I'd just throw my experience out there for others to see. Could this be the reason? Has anyone else had anything like this happen? Good luck to everyone else who is working on getting their picture back! Though I can't tell you how to do it, I can tell you it can change back within a few weeks. Best, Ruben

Authorship not working despite code showing rel=author
When you run this page through the rich snippet testing tool, it says the page doesn't contain authorship markup. Problem is, a look at the code shows rel = author has been properly added, and the author has listed the domain as a site he contributes to. Hopefully someone in the forum can tell me what I'missing? Why isn't authorship effective here?

Does social media work with boring clients?
OK, I'm not being rude, but I have a few clients who work in areas that really don't stimulate people - they are just needed. Examples are: Accountants

Chartered Surveyors
Forklift truck suppliers Not the most inspiring list... So my question is whether to pursue the whole social media side of SEO with them. I mean, who wants to "like" their chartered surveyor? Do they have anything interesting to "tweet" about? If anyone has experience of this type of field, then any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,0
