Plural of exact domain name
-
Hello,
I have the opportunity to buy the plural of an exact domain name in a niche I am interested. I would like to know if it helps to rank on the singular version of the keyword.
To illustrate, is the domain cars.com good to rank for the word car? Or online datings for online dating?
Thanks a lot.

Hi
I just answered a question like this the other day
http://moz.com/community/q/naming-a-brand-domain
Hope this helps,
Thomas

This is really a case by case thing I think. Clearly, "cars.com" is a great domain name to rank for the word "car." But who wants to rank for the word "car?" Certainly not someone who's selling cars. If you're selling cars you might want to rank for longer rail terms containing the singular "car" - like "buy a new car." But let Wikipedia rank for the plain old word "car" because it's not going to bring you well-qualified traffic.
The second example you give "online datings" is just not what any person fluent in English would type in a search bar. In this example, I'd say definitely don't go for the plural.
You should be able to see the difference in search volume between the singular and the plural in Google's Keyword Tool. That should tell you a lot. For example, look at the search volume difference between "communion supplies" and "communion supply" - there's a big difference.
The last reason I would discourage you from buying a plural version of a niche you are interested would be if the existing company has made a brand out of the singular version. For example, Peet's coffee has the domain Coffee.com - Some blogger has bought the domain Coffees.com...and it's totally lame...If you aren't careful with things like this you could get accused of cybersquatting or worse, trademark infringement. It's one of those situations where just because you "can" doesn't mean you "should."
Without knowing more details that's about as much as I can say. I hope it's somewhat helpful!

Should the Product Name/Keyword be first in meta description?
I'm writing my meta descriptions for my products. Right now I have it as <product name="">at <company name="">and a brief description.</company></product> However, I was wondering if I put a word in front of the <product name="">such as "Wholesale". So for example</product> Wholesale <product name="">at <company name="">.......</company></product> Is that advisable? Or should the product name always be the first word?

Exact keyword match on a page is dead. Is this right??
Hi, I read that you should give up on using exact keywords on a page if it means that the written content flows better. I just want your thoughts on this please because I don't want to miss opportunities. The keywords used are an example: SEO LONDON is the high vol./popular keyword that I want a page to rank for. Would I use that as the main keyword throughout the page, even though it doesn't really make sense (by this I mean you'd never really use this term other than typing it into google)? Or should I use something that makes more sense such as, 'SEO IN LONDON' or LONDON SEO? Would Google overlook the 'IN' in 'seo in london' so it's seen as 'SEO London'? (Same sort of question for LONDON SEO). If this is the case then why does google still show 1000 hits for SEO LONDON and just 100 for SEO IN LONDON? This makes me think that I should just target the exact keyword that people are typing even if it doesn't look natural. Best, James

Should I keep knowitall.biz domain name?
Basically wondering whether or not to keep this domain or start SEO with a new domain. The product is a tool that is somewhat comparable to evernote. Basically you can use this instead of searching your email (inefficent, and badly designed for storing personal/biz info). It is a tool that we developed in house for ourselves before evernote was around. At this point I need to figure out which keywords to target, so any suggestions with that would be much appreciated too!! Dave2

Can using an exact sentence from your content as meta description hurt?
Hi Mozzers! I'm uploading some press releases and the first sentence makes a perfect meta description. Would using the exact same wording ever hurt my rankings? Thanks!

What's the difference between broad and exact match in Google's keyword research tool?
The exact match option shows you much smaller numbers. And Google's explanation of each isn't comprehensive. Can someone explain the difference between the two with examples? Also, which one is it better to target while doing SEO research?

Broad match Vs Exact match
This may sound a little basic, but i'm going to ask anyway. On Googles keyword tool Ive always used broad match, knowing that they are never 100% accurate, and obviously inflated by other SEO's searching for their keywords, but used it all the same to get an idea of global monthly searches and potential targeted traffic. I have seen recently, on SEOmoz, and a post fromJill Whalen not long back, that unless you change the match to "Exact" your data is useless? Could somebody explain why this is the case? My initial thoughts were, a search for SEO on broad shows 6,120,000 per month Yet a search for the same keyword in exact match shows 673,000 per month. I had presumed that the broad match would include "learn SEO" "What is SEO" etc etc, where as 673,000 just search exactly for SEO. Is this correct? 3 points go to Richard Q&A answering animal dude Getz if he gets this first! Thanks in advance
