Are Moz Ratings that reliable/correlated against SERPS?
-
So 3 weeks in Penguin 2.0 and after an initial drop in rankings (4-5 places on top keywords from rank 1), I have seen a small climb in rankings by a couple places but have seen a huge jump in my DA, PA and Domain trust/rank... That FAR surpasses any other magicians website. However I am ranking below some really really poorly rated sites. I am getting a PA of 51 which is really high for the industry (maybe the highest).
If this is the case, why am I not number one for every keyword in my demographic?
I know this is asked a lot but how reliable are Moz stats, I know no one can really know how Google rank sites on SERPS but if Moz is the best shouldn't it be kinda close?Any thoughts on how accurate Moz rank is and also if it can be used as some indication of the SEO power behind a website.

It's hard to predict Google rankings, and there's no one metric that can do this reliably. The best we have to go on are metrics that correlate well with ranking potential. As of May 31, 2013, here's how the following correlated with Google rankings for US search results:
- Page Authority - 0.36
- Domain Authority - 0.19
- MozRank - 0.24
- Linking Root Domains - 0.30
- Total Links - 0.25
- External Links - 0.29
So Page Authority is the highest correlated metric that we know of - beating Google's PageRank by a wide margin. But as Chris points out, this is only a predictive metric. And while a 0.36 correlation is awesome in the SEO world, it's still a long way from a perfect correlation.
For more historical correlation data, I highly recommend looking at the 2011 Ranking Factors (we'll be updating this soon)
Generally, most SEOs have to take a number of metrics and data into account when trying to figure out the ranking potential of a webpage, and it's incredibly hard to create a computer model to replicate this.
Regardless, I hope this helps! Best of luck with your SEO.

Hey Magic,
Domain Authority is a measure of off-page factors such as linking root domains, number of total links, MozRank, MozTrust, etc. It demonstrates the _potential _a site has to rank well in Google without taking into account most keyword and on-page factors. A site that ranks best for "arctic circle", for example, may be very authoritative and have great domain authority because of the strength of its back links but it may not rank above other, less authoritative domains for "snow", for example, unless it has well-optimized concepts on the site pertaining to the term.
MozTrust is the “distance” between a given page and a seeded trust source on the Internet. Think of this like six degrees of separation: The closer you are linked to a trusted website, the more trust you have, yourself. Again, this has to do with your ranking _potential,_not how well optimized a page is around a key concept. If you take a page on a domain that has a link to it from the above mentioned arctic circle site and you delete all the content on it, but leave the URL, it will still maintain its trust score but it wouldn't rank for anything.
Also, sometimes google penalties will leave your site with high pagerank an other ranking factors, such as those measure on OSE, yet the site is stripped of its ability to show up in the results.

Moz Domain Authority 27
Hi there, I have been reading up about Domain Authority being important to rank though I have a question about it. When trying a few google searches and using a tool to see the Moz Domain Authority i notice the following. I won't mention sites or keywords, happy to send them via private message if required. A site ranks 1st position for most keywords including the main keyword that related to their industry, a highly competitive keyword. Their Moz Domain Authority 27, Est. Visits: 265,000, Pinterest shares 72, Facebook shares 191 and unique domains that point to it are 55. Yet when I look at another site, optimising for the same keyword, Moz Domain Authority 50, Est. Visits: 60,000, Pinterest shares 35000, Facebook shares 20000 and unique domains that point to it are 521. I would have thought that the second site ranks 1st for the keyword and the first one mentioned which is in 1st position I would have expected to be on page two or three. as I scroll down the first page for the term, all sites except for one have higher DA, visits, shares and so on. If a high PA is required can someone help me to understand the above example? Whn a low PA site ranks much better for a primary keyword than all other sites that have a higher PA than it?

When Should I Ignore Moz's Report Canonical Missing?
I'm dealing with an eCommerce website which has a category, subcategory, products. Moz is showing all of these and the individual products as missing a canonical. The site is very thin on content at the moment, but all the pages are clearly different, and I don't see why they need a canonical unless this is some rule that eCommerce sites have to follow. Should I ignore Moz's missing canonical report? My understanding is if the product appears in multiple categories, then a canonical should be put in place to the product. Any advice would be appreciated. Christina

Search Console says 111 links. Moz says 3\. Do I have a site problem?
I understand that Moz doesn't show all links; but i would think that out of 111 links from 43 root domains, they'd at least show 20 or 30 root domains. I definitely have more than 3 credible sites linking back to me. So do I have an issue? I've been trying to get my site ranking for 9 months, and I've tried EVERYTHING. Still no significant movement. Please help me figure out what's going on. I've been trying to get my site ranking for 9 months, and I've tried EVERYTHING. Still no significant movement. I'm wondering—maybe even hoping—that this will help me uncover a problem that could set the whole thing back on course. Please help me figure out what's going on.

Moz analytics telling me I have duplicate content issues - how to fix this?
Hey guys, Okay I ran into moz analytics - I have I have 199 Issues, priority issues are showing 38 Duplicate page content. I began looking into the URL's and from what I have noticed from all the urls are showing me a common theme. The urls are pointing to my blog pages - my blog is using wordpress. What iv noticed is the urls all have "Tag" in it Here are 3 examples that I have found. All url's take me to a blank page: Does anyone know what the solution is to fixing this? I read the article for duplicate content covering 301 redirects and Rel=Canonical tags - I'm wondering if this would need to be considered in this case? However I find it confusing that these pages for to a blank page. https://www.zenory.com.au/blog/tag/dysfunctional-relationships/ https://www.zenory.com.au/blog/tag/change/ https://www.zenory.com.au/blog/tag/intuitive/ Appreciate some assistance.

Best Way to Seemlessly Use Moz and Google Analytics
Hi All, I have Moz Pro and I am beginning to explore Moz Analytics. I currently use Google Analytics for pretty much everything and I am almost at expert level at using the GA interface so I'm ready to learn a new tool and have a second source of data! My question is: what's the best way to get the most of Moz Analytics and GA congruently? Off hand I know that Moz's keyword, rank, and link data, including competitive insights, is more comprehensive than GA. But how else can I use Moz and get the most out of the Moz Analytics? Looking to really dive in and discuss how we can make use of both! Thanks - Vee

Moz has a problem connecting to my GA account. But it hasn't changed..?
A client recently rebuilt there site. Same URL, same Google Analytics code. When I log into my SEOmoz campaign for this site, I get this message: It appears there's a problem with our connection to your Google Analytics account. Please go to your Settings page to update your connection. There is nothing to update however. Nothing should have changed in my settings. Do I need to start over here? Any help is appreciated (I know analytics is working, checked it this morning.....)

How Long Does a SERP Analysis Report Normally Take to Run?
I started running a SERP analysis report two days ago, and it still says it's "in progress." It is 5:40 PM Pacific on August 7 as I type this, and I started running the report on: August 05, 2012 10:03 (copied and pasted from the report). Is this normal? Thanks!

Should I worry about limiting link count on product listing/category pages?
I've noticed that my link count is high (165ish for some) on my category listing pages. I've been scouring my page to see if there's any way that I can reduce the link count without restricting functionality to the end user. Each product listing on the category page has 5 links currently: A link to the product in the title A link to the product from the image An 'add to compare' link An 'add to cart' link An 'add to wishlist' link When the customer chooses to show 30 products per page, the link tally goes off the scale. So I have two questions: Firstly - is it appropriate to keep link count down in this scenario? To elaborate - is it just inevitable that product listing pages will have lots of links, and should I just assume that Google knows this and forget about these warnings. Secondly - There are two links to the same page (the title and image links to the product page). Does SEOmoz include this in the link count, and more importantly, will Google take heed of these when deciding whether the page is too link-heavy?
