What is the best way to grow local seo outreach?
-
For example, I live in new york and most of my keywords, page titles and meta are featured for new york but I want to expand into new jersey.
Should I add create new content with those keywords, page titles and meta (blog posts, new pages)? Thats what I am doing but I wanted to see what the pros say.
Thanks guys!

Hi Thomas,
As you are running a design/SEO business, then Google does not consider your business model as truly local to anywhere and will only show organic results for queries like 'web design nyc'. So, everyone competing for phrases like this must do so organically. Your efforts will likely need to include on-going content development, link building and, perhaps, an additional outreach via Social Media, video marketing, etc.
Content development will most certainly stand at the core of your strategy, so finding something of interest and value to write about that will be relevant to your desired NJ audience is the task at hand. For web design firms, a natural choice would be beautiful writeups of projects you've completed for NJ businesses. You might also begin doing features of NJ-based businesses with awesome websites, or websites that could be improved, or websites that help the people of NJ is some special way. You can display some of your expertise by critiquing what works. Basically, you're going to have to brainstorm some great ideas that would make for excellent content and then keep brainstorming and writing so that you can begin to build authority around search terms that relate to New Jersey. But, again, the end goal here will be organic rankings rather than local ones, simply because Google stopped displaying web design and SEO firms for common local queries some years ago.
Your creativity is your best asset towards achievement of your goals. Lots of work ahead! Good luck!

If you are expending to another area (state) then in that here are the following things you can do!
Create Pages for another location, this will allow you to get ranked quickly within the new state and also help you get better leads from the new location.
Also if you have a new physical location as well then in that case you should try to get new listings for a new location so that you can rank easily on locals as well.
Try to get bloggers within that area and outreach them to write review about your company!
You can also outreach to magazines and other blogs within the area and ask them to write a guest post in it, this will allow you to rank better as well as brand reorganization across the new location
Hope this helps!

Thanks Chris!
Im not really a local business. I have clients across the country. We do web design so it can be done with a phone call and emails but I get a decent amount of local business and I knew I had to focus on somewhere specific for seo.

Yes, that's what you should do for organic traffic but since it sounds like you don't have a physical presence there, I wouldn't expect to show up in the local results. Before going after NJ traffic though, I would say to first be sure that you are already ranking well for your NY related searches--and converting that traffic efficiently. For local businesses, it typically makes sense to maximize the potential of your closest, most likely customers before reaching out a broader audience.

Changing URL for SEO
Hi folks, I'm a total newbie so please go easy. I've published 4 blogs on my website and am using the free Yoast plugin to guide me on my SEO. The blogs have been promoted in various places using organic and paid social. However, the more I look into SEO the more I'm realising that I did literally NO keyword research and the keywords I'm using are pretty useless. The question is this: it should be easy enough for my to change the content of the blog, the meta description etc to reflect the new keywords, but what about the URL / slug?. Is there any way to change this without causing me a massive headache or does having my new keywords in the slug even matter? Thanks, Mike.

Should I concentrate keyword ranking locally or nationally?
Hi all, I have spent few last days reading here in community and watching Moz videos about keyword research. I used keywords planner tool. Here is the question. When I researched keywords I took into account search traffic nationwide UK rather then my local search volume. My photography business operates more for local customers rather then nationwide. Does it mean that I need to concentrate on my local city/region search volume rather then nationwide. After I have done Nationwide keyword research I realised that most of those keywords which are with really high search volumes are pretty much non existent in my local search results. I meant to the point that keyword search volume is under 10. Considering that I have small number of pages i could use them for, my guess is that it is no point to target those high search volume keywords as most likely those won't be my clients anyway. I might be getting all this wrong, but wanted to ask here. Thank you all, Regards, Armands

Is KEI metric still commonly used by SEOs
I'd like to ask about the KEI, is it used by now? and is it really matters ? I guess # of results by Google is not a good metric to decide if the keyword is good or not? I'd really appreciate your inputs

Does "Using a dash in keyword name" affect SEO?
I sell machinery branded Co-matic. Most people search Comatic so I was wondering if I should change my keywords from Co-matic to Comatic. Would the change have a significant impact on SEO? Thanks!

How to best utilize keywords using All in One SEO
Please forgive my noob questions here. I'm using Wordpress with All in One SEO. I'm launching a new video production company (www.heartwavemedia.com) and have spent the last few months building a website for it in my spare time. Visually and structurally, it's there but I'm just beginning to tackle SEO. I've read a fair amount on the subject but I'm unclear on the following: 1. Regarding the All in One SEO "keywords" field on each page, are more or less keywords better? 2. Should I be using a long list of broad, industry relevant keywords that are plugged into every page (where All in One SEO gives you the "keywords" field) or should each page be targeting a more specific set of keywords? Alternatively, is it appropriate to do that sometimes but not others? For example should I be casting a wide net with my home page and then get laser precise with subsequent pages? 3. Is my goal to pick one (or two or three) keywords that my research leads me to believe I could get some traction with and write copy referencing them across my entire site or to spread them around? 4. Is it absolutely necessary to include keyword rich copy for each page or doe's the "keyword" field address that need? Are they read the same by SEs or do they complement each other? 5. On a scale of 1-10, how infuriating are the previous 4 questions? In the event that your head hasn't exploded, I appreciate your forthcoming advice!
