In a post penguin world, what would be your widget rollout strategy?
-
We have some very useful calculators. Should the branded text link be follow or no follow? Is a genuine, value ad widget helpful in post penguin SEO world
-
I would place the widget on my site and and anyone who finds it useful can like it, tweet it, link to it.
Make these widgets awesome and make your website the "go to place" for these calculations.

You would be fine leaving the link followed, as long as the widget would appear on just one page (not sitewide). I would generally use either the brand name as anchor text or the URL, though some people like to experiment with randomizing keyword-rich anchor texts with branded and other types.
Hope this helps!

New Penguin
I just read that a new Penguin might be coming up. My question is : Can you rank if you have good content but bad links ? In other words does the content quality take over the link quality or will google penalize you for the quality of your links even though your content is great and deserves to rank ? Thank you,

Linking strategy between my own sites
Hi, I have one main site, let's call it food.com I also have 10 smaller sites, let's call them mexicanfood.com, indianfood.com, italianfood.com etc food.com is on its own separate dedicated server the 10 smaller sites are all on a shared IP in hostgator I don't want Google to think that I have created the 10 sites for only purpose of creating links to each other. So, would you recommend that all those 10 sites link to each other? or should there be no interlinking within those 10 same IP domains? What about linking from those 10 sites to my main site? How should I structure my own backlinks not to get penalized by Google ?

Our link building strategy - affiliates and trophies
Hey guys, I just wanted to follow up on Rand's excellent whiteboard Friday: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/preventing-linkbased-penalties-whiteboard-friday It got me worried I think, but I'm not sure. We have a site where we are building up links in 2 ways: We have an affiliate set-up. A search widget in an i-frame, and below the i-frame a followed link pointing to the relevant page.
Link Building | | sichristie
The anchor text varies for each affiliate depending which region the affiliate comes from. We have awarded about 500 of our partners with trophies - i.e. - this partner has best reviews or most sales etc. Our partners are absolutely loving it.
The trophy is an image link which they can embed on their website, with alt text only mentioning our brand - that was an oversight ( I think). I wish the alt had been dynamically generated for each partner.
The trophies link to our partner pages.
So we are getting many links to our deeper pages, which is great.
The links I believe are relevant as they are coming from our partners websites and pointing to their relevant partner page on our website. So burning question is. Would you consider these links dodgy given Rands recent whiteboard friday post, and the recent farmer algorithm change? Many thanks, Croozie0
