Search Term in Contact Email
-
Can anybody help me with this? Our enquiries come through by email with certain details added by the potential customer e.g name, email address, phone number etc.
I would also like to have the search term that triggered the conversion to appear in the email we receive.
I've seen this done before. Can anybody tell me hoe this is done?
Thanks

Hi Robert, has your question been answered? Please give us an update, thanks! (Christy)

Based on what you said in your question, you won't be able to see any Search info unless the user has recently visited the site through search and then returned via email. You might be able to drill down to this in Analytics by digging into the conversion paths. If you're just looking at email, you will obviously not have Search terms associated with the user. If you are asking about the email acquisition from the ad extension, then you'll be able to pull the search term by drilling into things in AdWords.
More info from you would be helpful in answering your question.

Hi Robert,
I see that you posted this question in Paid Search Marketing. Are you by chance collecting these emails using AdWord's Communication Extension function? (It allows you to embed email subscribe forms in search display ads.)

If you are trying to capture the search term used by a customer that lead to the site visit you can do this through the referral URL when they enter the site. As you can see where the visitor came from you can pull the appropriate URL parameter containing the search term information, save it in a cookie while they navigate about the site the merge it into the email template.
We use this method to attribute search terms to an application, but through XML forms. I’m afraid i do not know the exact technical implementation details, but do know that the above is the process we use, and i also know the parameters you want to look at for certain Search engines. All the below have the search term in the 'q' parameter:
GOOGLE, BING, ASK, AOL, HOTBOT, GIGABLAST, LYCOS, SEARCH-RESULTS, CONDUIT, SEARCH, AVG (powered by google), BABYLON, MAMMA, YANDEX, DAUM (chinese), SEZNAM (czech)
YAHOO: p = query
Hope this helps you out.
Hope this helps you out.
Heres a list of all Google URL Values if you fancy trying to get any other insights.

Hi Robert,
You need to be careful to comply with Google's tracking rules which basically define that you aren't allowed to track with personal information.
7. Privacy. You will not (and will not allow any third party to) use the Service to track, collect or upload any data that personally identifies an individual (such as a name, email address or billing information), or other data which can be reasonably linked to such information by Google. You will have and abide by an appropriate Privacy Policy and will comply with all applicable laws and regulations relating to the collection of information from Visitors. You must post a Privacy Policy and that Privacy Policy must provide notice of Your use of cookies that are used to collect traffic data, and You must not circumvent any privacy features (e.g., an opt-out) that are part of the Service.
If you're happy to have a general overview of what search terms lead to the most conversions you could implement an Analytics Event(https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/gajs/eventTrackerGuide) which is fired off once an email is sent and then set this up in conversion tracking in Analytics.
So not quite what you're after, but would comply with the ToS.

Is it possible to link two sites' Search Console to Adwords?
My company is a healthcare organization that has two brands, one that's our 'system' and is mainly adult health services and the other is pediatric only focused care. Both have separate websites. Our SEM is managed by an outside agency. We're in the process of linking our Google Search Consoles to the Adwords account. Our GSC has both of the sites as separate properties, but the Adwords account has all of the campaigns for both brands under one account. Is it possible to link both of the GSC properties in the Adwords account to be able to get accurate information for the Paid & Organic report in Adwords?

Hey Moz folks, I'm in the process of getting a deck together to discuss 'Disruption in search' and I wondered if the community would be able to share any ideas of their own as to what they feel is/has/will be disrupting the search/search marketing industry? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks! Sean
