Does it impact over ranking of any website if their same content being used some other external sources
-
Hi Moz & members,
I just want to make sure over website www.1st-care.org , does it impact over ranking this website if the same content (of about us or home care services) being used some other external sources or local citations places. Do those published same content create any ranking drop issue with this website's and making its content strengthen week? . As I was on 9th position in Google.com before, now it has slipped to 29th position. WHY? is there content issue or anything else which i am not aware.

Thanks for understanding I was not disputing you. I will let you know as soon as we complete. As to the A/B it is not a bad idea, but we are looking at rankings vs known SEO factors at this time. We are going to show what is present or missing from top 10 in multiple cities and categories (US) and provide it as a guide. I am not sure we will provide a conclusion, but likely leave it as a discussion and then each can decide for themselves how they address it for themselves or clients. We have four paid interns gathering data along with several staff members supervising and insuring accuracy and validation at each step of the process; this requires a lot from each of them. They are a good team, but it is a daunting task.
I would appreciate any insights or thoughts from Mozzers re the changes they are seeing in the SERPs. Right now, we are focusing on organic sans the local results, but will follow with Local. The problem with looking at both is the carousel beta, the 1 pack, 3 pack, 7 pack shuffle, etc. The biggest thing we are seeing is just a massive proliferation of directory sites for staggeringly important search terms. At the current rate, I could see page one of most service/professional searches to be all directories. That is where I am seeing all the duplicate content around categories and "About your business" pages and where it does not seem to matter in the least.
Take a look at any major US city plus: realtor, plumber, electrician, etc. and see how many directories now show up. It has skyrocketed even in the last 4 to 6 months.
Best to you,
-
Interesting. I can't wait for your study to come out.
Maybe duplicate then revise the home page and try an A/B test.

Before you revise and rewrite all I would say this: Chris is correct and I am not sure that Chris is correct any longer and here is why. We are in the middle of a rather interesting study around ranking and ranking factors for page one of SERPs. (More to follow on that later.) While doing this I am noticing that in many cases, a company who has identical info in directories and citation sources are ranking very very well. Because of the study I cannot show you an example yet, but it really discounts the "thin content," "duplicate content" info from Google. Frankly, I am at a point that I do not believe what shows as the result of local (not necessarily just in terms of your G+, etc., but the effect of local optimization on organic listings) is equal to what shows otherwise organically.
Yes, this flies in the face of all we hear from the Google and the pundits.
So, what does this mean for you? I, personally and the advice I would give a client, would look to see what my rankings are and what they have been over time. For what you presented the meta's showing in the SERPs are near identical. If you are ranking well (whatever your definition of well is as I am not handling similar business in that market), I would not change it yet. I would hold still and watch. If, for example, for home care Bronx, you rank in 7 pack and you have an organic url at #6, I think it is nuts to change that right now. With the beta of the carousel and so many changes in Local, I do not think rushing into rewriting all is a good move.
But, that's just my opinion. Let us know what you do and how it works.
Best,
Robert

Teginder,
Yes, you're going to have to completely revise all of the content on your homepage. Since that content is shared on many other sites, your best bet is going to be to do a rewrite. Be sure to make it very different from what you have now--not just changing a few words. Moving forward, you should make sure the content on the rest of your pages is also unique on the web.

Landing page redirect along with complete content
Hi Moz community, We have a page with "keyword" we are targeting in slug like website.com/keyword/. This page doesn't have much back-links or visits like homepage. So we decided to redirect homepage to /keyword page along with complete content. Will this going to hurt? Only change anybody can notice is URL. Are there any risks involved. I think this is the best way to highlight the page we been thinking about. Thanks

Do sub-domain visits do not count for website?
It's a common understanding that Google treats sub-domains as different websites. Does that mean visits of sub-domain do not impact website in-terms of ranking or visibility or reputation at Google?

Long term rankings drop after swapping primary domain
Hey...this is my first post on Moz so please go easy on me! I've recently been baffled by the ranking behavior of a domain I do SEO for. In short, the primary domain was "musashispicymayo.com". After several months of SEO efforts and a really solid PR run the site managed to run up to #1 for several target keywords. For the purposes of this question I'd like to focus on the term "spicy mayo". "Musashispicymayo.com" was steadily climbing for as far back as page 5 until it ultimately reached #1 rank on Google for "spicy mayo". We also had another domain "musashifoods.com" which was originally 301 redirecting to "Musashispicymayo.com". About 3 months ago (shortly after acquiring the top ranking) the client wanted to reverse the domains so we started using "musashifoods.com" as the primary and redirecting "musashispicymayo.com" to that. In summary:
Algorithm Updates | | Andy-Twizen
ORIGINALLY: musashifoods.com 301 redirect -> musashispicymayo.com
NOW: musashispicymayo.com 301 redirect -> musashifoods.com At the time of the swap I did the following: Redirected the domain using a 301 via htaccess (made sure "www" requests are forwarded too) Created a new Google analytics account / webmaster account for "musashifoods.com" Went into my old webmaster tools account and used the change of address tool In the new webmaster tools account i submitted a sitemap and requested a crawl of the new domain Ensured the new primary domain was properly configured and all pages had the correct urls in the source code Verified that Google has updated their index and "musashifoods.com" now shows in the results. Now of course musashispicymayo has the keyword in the domain but I find it hard to believe that that is what caused such a dramatic and swift drop in rankings. In fact a good portion of the backlinks actually point to "musashifoods.com"...Did I miss something else here? Does Google penalize you for reversing 301 redirects like that instead of just using a new domain altogether? Let me know if I can provide any additional info that would help clarify...any advice is greatly appreciated!0 -
Website dropping from page 1google uk
Hi all, Firstly let me stress I am not really SEO minded, I know the very basics and that is about it. I am a driving instructor in the UK and have had my website (Wordpress) on page 1 for about 3 years now round the position 3 mark but for the last few months it has been dropping and is now right at the bottom of page 1 so no doubt a few more days and it will vanish completely from page 1 of google.co.uk . I was wondering if someone could just have a quick look at the page to see if they can see anything obvious that wouldn't be seen by me! The search term is " Driving Lessons Worcester " and the page that has always show on page 1 of google is .. http://www.passlee.com/driving-lessons-worcester.html I also had another site on page 1 for about 2 years which was www.drivinglessonsworcester.com this has also vanished to page 5 over the last 3 to 4 months. What really hurts is I made a website for another local instructor using WP and with similar setup to mine and that is now showing as No.1 on page 1 of google.co.uk!! So how is it the website I did for him is doing amazing yet mine is dieing a death when they are setup the same way but obviously different content! As I said I barely know the basics , I am sure a lot of you are thinking " Just go research " which I know I should and no doubt will, but I just wanted someone to have a very quick look to see if there was anything obvious! Kind Regards Lee Francis

After optimising for SEO my ranking went down...
Hello, My website was ranking for over 100 keywords but was not really optimised properly. For example, the page title was much too long, it was segmented like this: "keyword - Category - domain " I followed recommandations in SEOMOZ and I removed the domain and category from the long page titles to only leave the keyword and updated the H1 to reflect also the keyword. We dropped in ranking since even though we did not change anything, only made things more SEO optimised. I don't understand how it made us drop in ranking?? David

How did my Page Authority and Page Rank disappear?
I've hit a problem. A couple days ago my site's page authority was 51 and the PR was 3 and now they're 1 and 0 respectively. The developer did adjust some of the code in the site in the past couple days but that shouldn't have affected this. It was last cached by Google on the 5th. Can anyone offer some good advice? If it helps the page is www.duracard.com

Does my overly dynamic website hurt my SEO?
I have heard from a couple of people that my overly dynamic URL's hurt my SEO tremendously. Can anyone verify that? Of course my provider says it doesn't matter but I take what they say with a grain of salt. Another thing, my web crawls show a TON of errors for duplicate page title and overly dynamic url and duplicate page content. How big of a deal is this? http://www.nvclothing.com
