Question about the Playback Locations report in YouTube Analytics
-
We have several hundred YouTube videos. In the Playback Report section in YouTube analytics, I can see a list of sites where people have viewed our videos. Some of the sites listed are competitors. The report does not show the URL of the page where the video is embedded.
Is there a way to find this information?
I have already tried using Google to search for the URL, but I'm thinking this isn't going to search the source code and the video URL isn't going to appear on the page anywhere.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Thanks Phil. Excellent suggestion. I hadn't thought of using the reference URL in OSE. That should work great.

Hi Dana,
to be honest, I've just always found it quickest and simplest to use advanced search operators to find out which page it's on, by referencing words I expect to be cited around the videos.
E.g. site:moz.com Distilled video
If you're trying to do it more at scale, you could use OSE/Majestic with the URL referenced in the YouTube iframe code and then match these up using a vlookup in excel Googledocs.

Hi Angelos,
Yes, if I select individual videos I can see the site it is embedded on, but not the specific URL. I am attaching a screenshot as an example for this particular video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adxvLifTuuQ I have circled two instances that show the playback location is on a competitor's Website. However, the only location given is the competitor's domain, not the actual URL where the video may be embedded.
I thought maybe if I exported the report that the URLs might show up there, but no luck.
Anyone else have any ideas about how to get this information? Thanks Angelos!

Hey there Dana,
To make it clear, you cannot find the url within the Youtubes Analytics panel? I guess you already know that if you chose single videos you can see where it had been embedded. Sorry if my answer is totally wrong not that good with videos

What basics should we be looking at in Google Analytics?
We have GA set up on our site for a while now. However, we do not look at the data. We did today and it's quite overwhelming. Is there anything in specific we should start with? A top 3 items we should start to monitor each week and try to improve? Bonus Question: Is there a way to use analytics to find out who are competitors are?

SEO ranking question
Hey, If a site for had a series of articles, and had the privilege of guest posting on several sites, such as mashable, entrepreuner.com, inc.com, and a few other not as big sites. and let us also say that this site is new and currently has pagerank of 0. How would the above benefit the site and the visibility of the articles on google? Also, with guest-posting, is it problematic to have the exact article also on your site? thanks in advance!

Competitor's Ranking's Reports are Showing Blank Values for Rankings
When selecting competitors to see how they rank for specific terms in the ranking's report page here, it loads the page normally, but without any actual rankings. Where values should be, it lists all values as our competition not ranking whatsoever (for all competitors). I'm not sure if there is something we're doing wrong, or perhaps we just need to wait for a refresh, but if anybody could help out, that would be wonderful!

Keyword difficulty/research question
Wondering if I could get some opinions from the fellow moz users' I have a website which I which to rank for the term 'evening dress'.As you can imagine it is a pretty difficult term with a score of 62% (the term gets 301,000 broad matches and 27,000 exact matches a month). As much as I would like to target this term I feel that my domain is not strong enough (DA 39) to match the competition. Therefore, would a better strategy be to target long tail keywords which also contain the primary keyword, ie black evening dress evening dress hire cheap evening dress buy evening dress online please note that these were just examples, I haven't researched a comprehensive long tail list. Would targeting these long tail keywords mean that a) I should be able to rank for them faster and thus receive more traffic, sooner, and b) build up links to the page which I ultimately want to rank for evening dresses with numerous backlinks containing the keyword evening dress. The trade off with doing this is that I would need to seo one page for all the long tail keywords to gain the maximum benefit for the 'money' keyword. Does this sound like a sensible approach to both ranking for big money term and also getting traffic sooner rather than later? Thanks Carl

Crazy SEO question (maybe I'm missing something?)
OK - so one of our customers just called us and told us an interesting story: A local SEO company called her yesterday to try to sell their services to her. She's in the process of starting SEO services with us, so she told them she wasn't interested. The sales guy told her that they were better (without even asking who she was currently using) and asked her for a term that she'd like to rank higher for. She said she'd like to rank higher for "spray in bedliners northern ky" and he said "Gotcha, call you tomorrow" He called back just now and told her to look at Google. She's now ranking number one for that term. He didn't have access to her site, so he wasn't able to change anything on her site. He won't tell her what he did, and told her it was legitimate - but it seems to me that with only off-site tactics, it'd be nearly impossible to white-hat her site to number one overnight... Any ideas what he's doing? First of all, we want to be able to tell her what he's doing, because she's curious. More importantly, we want to be sure he's not doing anything black-hat that's going to hurt our client's site. Thanks for your help, Mozzers!
