What else rather than posts for linkbuilding?
-
Hello,
My question is: we all know that blogs or great content is the way to good backlinks. But rather than this, what other ways are to build quality links to a website?
I for example try researching competition backlinks (with opensiteexplorer), or find directories etc.
Is this the right way? I also try to produce great content, but I would have liked more technical SEO tricks for this
And one more thing: how long links are needed before they impact rankings?
Thanks if someone can help!

You are on the right track, I think. This is the hardest part of the whole process really - the "wall" that you hit after you've posted a good blog. Most of the advice I read, stops there and kind of expects us to know what to do or that people are magically supposed to find your awesome content and start linking.
Here's some extra "technical SEO tricks" that I've started using. Since you've already got the good content - use that to build links (everyone else feel free to chime in, as I'm really new to this):
- Use the rel=author Markup to link your post to your Google+ page
- Add social media share buttons
- Promote your blog on your social media pages (FB, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, LinkedIn)
- Submit to blog directories (Technorati, Zimbio, Ontoplist, Alltop, BestoftheWeb, Blogarama, etc - All PR6). Make sure you choose the right category, so that all your links source from your niche and look natural - don't "automate" this process.
- Submit to bookmarking sites (Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon, Tumblr, Delicious - All PR8)
If anyone else has ideas for using their content to build good links, let me know.
To answer your second question, how long a link takes until it adds value, it really depends. I've seen 2 weeks, and I have actually seen 5-6 months afterward, it finally shows up in Moz tools. Strange.
Hope this helps. I'm still learning too - so anyone else have any suggestions?

Hey Social,
The "technical SEO tricks" of the past aren't going to pay you big dividends these days. Today's link building is really about being excited about your product and being excited to produce content that others will find valuable. But there are still numerous, less exciting tactics that you can employ, as Jon Cooper points out in one of his posts on link building strategies. http://pointblankseo.com/link-building-strategies . It turns out that link building is about being creative, knowing your product and your audience, and having a passion for spending hours on end discovering new places and ways your product or brand can fit into people's lives.

Category VS Post
I use my website for providing an international service, I made my URL structure website https://example.com/destinations/africa/country destinations is a category and Africa is a sub-category I made an article for every continent and inserted all the continent's country manually, the page url structure is https://example.com/destinations/africa/ and the continent category URL is https://example.com/category/destinations/africa/ I'm thinking about removing the continent article and strip the category Word from URL, So i will use the subcategories directly on the same link https://example.com/destinations/africa/ what's your advice about removing the continent article and using the sub categories instead? is it a good idea to use the child category as a reference for the internal links? what do you think about keeping both of them (child category and the Article)? in case you suggest to use the child category , Is removing Category word may hurt my SEO?

How can a recruitment company get 'credit' from Google when syndicating job posts?
I'm working on an SEO strategy for a recruitment agency. Like many recruitment agencies, they write tons of great unique content each month and as agencies do, they post the job descriptions to job websites as well as their own. These job websites won't generally allow any linking back to the agency website from the post. What can we do to make Google realise that the originator of the post is the recruitment agency and they deserve the 'credit' for the content? The recruitment agency has a low domain authority and so we've very much at the start of the process. It would be a damn shamn if they produced so much great unique content but couldn't get Google to recognise it. Google's advice says: "Syndicate carefully: If you syndicate your content on other sites, Google will always show the version we think is most appropriate for users in each given search, which may or may not be the version you'd prefer. However, it is helpful to ensure that each site on which your content is syndicated includes a link back to your original article. You can also ask those who use your syndicated material to use the noindex meta tag to prevent search engines from indexing their version of the content." - But none of that can happen. Those big job websites just won't do it. A previous post here didn't get a sufficient answer. I'm starting to think there isn't an answer, other than having more authority than the websites we're syndicating to. Which isn't going to happen any time soon! Any thoughts?

Has anyone else noticed a big change in SERPS in the past week or two
We've had a massive change in our position, we were pretty stable on certain keywords for quite some time, however in the past week we were bouncing around and then thrown completely off with some of our keywords dropping to page 4 and some to page 2. I've noticed a lot of changes on the google uk serps, and not sure if it is just a penguin refresh or if its a new one that hasn't been announced. anyone else notice?

Content Marketing: Use of the words "guest post" in outreach email
Hello, I'm marketing a useful article in our niche, appealing to the humanitarian side of things and I always show I'm a reciprocator. Should my wording in my outreach email be: ...to write a guest post around this article: http://... Or should I just ask if they want help with content and go from there? In other words, should I always call it a guest post for maximum conversions? Thanks.

Stopped ranking. Suspect links with keyword in blog posts and blog username. What to do? Disvow?
One of our staff thought it was a good idea to comment in 30 blogs in our niche using "keyword" as username in blog post linked to our website and additionally adding links to our website in the posts. We now got caught by panda or penguin (google confirmed no manual penalty was taken) and not ranking anymore for this keyword. No notification in webmaster tools neither. We have links from around 90 root domains of which 30 are from these blog posts. What would you suggest to do? Just building more legitimate links so that share of bad links goes down?

Using google disvow tool? We would then loose potential to get later legitimate links from these sites? Any ideas/suggestions?0 -

URL Going Over the Last Page of Pagination - Post Webinar Discussion
**Discussion Question: **Lets say you have 33 pages of paginated content but someone lands on page 34+, what do you do? I just setup a variable on my site so when someone lands on a page that is over the page count they are redirected to the last page of the paginated content. My reasoning is the user is looking for the last page, so why not redirect them to it? Now I just saw in the latest webinar on ecommerce (by Everett Sizemore) that he recommends a 404… should I switch? Why a 404? Again, what do you guys do when you encounter this situation?
