Sitemap.xml parameters
-
Hello,
I confused about the parameters when create sitemap.xml. I don'n know how to use these parameters efficiently. Some parameters are:
- **Page changing frequency: **what is a good value? Can I choose "None"?
- **Last modified date: **what is a good value? Can I choose "Don’t specify"?
- **Page priority: **what is a good value? Can I choose "Don’t specify"?Thanks,
-
Thank you !
I also found a good tool for creating sitemap: http://www.web-site-map.com/xml_sitemap.php

There are some tools that can build the sitemap automatically setting all those values, like <cite>www.xml-sitemaps.com</cite>
But, the best answer would be to use:
- Page caching frequency: How many times your pages' content change?
- Last modified: return the actual file last modification date (dynamic? do that using the DB last update date).
- Priority: Set the priority to 1 to your most important pages and then start lower it for the others (less important, less priority).
Again, xml-sitemaps can handle almost everything (the standalone version (paid)).
Hope that helps.

Url shows up in "Inurl' but not when using time parameters
Hey everybody, I have been testing the Inurl: feature of Google to try and gauge how long ago Google indexed our page. SO, this brings my question. If we run inurl:https://mysite.com all of our domains show up. If we run inurl:https://mysite.com/specialpage the domain shows up as being indexed If I use the "&as_qdr=y15" string to the URL, https://mysite.com/specialpage does not show up. Does anybody have any experience with this? Also on the same note when I look at how many pages Google has indexed it is about half of the pages we see on our backend/sitemap. Any thoughts would be appreciated. TY!

Which version of the homepage on the sitemap?
We have been wondering this for a while now. When we build our sitemaps, or when the yoast plugin does in WP we are often left with www.yourdomain.co.uk/ and www.yourdomain.co.uk/index.html in our sitemaps. Surely it isn't healthy to have both in the sitemap. Which one should we take out? Thanks

Pagination with parameter and rel prev rel next
Hi there: I have a doubt about how using the pagination and rel prev | rel next, I will try to sum up this example of pagination: the page number 1 is SEO friendly in order to index it, It also gets metarobots: index, follow. The other ones (pagination), instead, have noindex, follow. In fact, these URLs are not SEO friendly because of they have the parameter "?" to set up pagination, so for this reason, in the past, It has been decided not to index them. Would you suggest also to use rel="prev" rel="next" in this situation? Or would it be better to set up the others ones (pagination) in "SEO friendly" and then, to set up the rel prev | rel next? Thanks a lot in advance for helping 🙂 Greetings Francesca

Sitemap error is reported when using a sitemap-index generated by Yoast
I've installed the Yoast SEO Plugin for wordpress and I've setup the sitemaps using it. I saw the tool has generated the Sitemap index file http://www.phraseexpander.com/sitemap_index.xml with different indexes for posts and pages I've submitted that to google and it's indexed. When I use Seoquake to check my website, I see that it says that the sitemap is missing (in fact http://www.phraseexpander.com/sitemap.xml) is returning 404. Shall I fix that? Shall I do a 301 redirect in my .htaccess file to http://www.phraseexpander.com/sitemap_index.xml Thanks.

Is having this sitemap worthwhile?
I know that a sitemap can help SEs to find and index pages, and also deal with canonicalisation issues, but I have a client who is insisting that we build a sitemap containing links to every possible category on a huge ecommerce site. We already have tabbed modules that allow users to sort by brand, product type, location etc, plus a strong search function that allows them to select multiple options. I'm worried that a sitemap stuffed with keywords like "Product A by brand B in Location C", "Product A by brand B in Location D" etc. will just seem spammy and do more harm than good. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks.

Sitemap generator and /index.htm
I use DMX Zone sitemap generator in Dreamweaver. When generating the sitemap, it includes both http://www.domain.com and http://www.domain.com/index.htm. Should the /index.htm be deleted from the sitemap, or will the 301 redirect take care of that? Best,
