Best Joomla SEO Extensions?
-
My website is a Joomla based website. My designer is good, but I don't think he knows that much about SEO . . . so I doubt if he added any extensions that can assist with SEO. I assume there are some good ones that can help my site.
Does anyone know what/which Joomla extensions are must haves?

Thanks! I downloaded the paid version of JoomSEF... the free version includes a link in the footer... kinda tacky for a client's website. The paid version was only $35.57 USD. So... crossing fingers.. here goes nothing!

According to CodeCanyon... the Smart SEO plugin is only valid up to Joomla version 2.5 (as of 1 month ago). Looks like JCH Optimize is for only for speed optimization.
Still looking for a good SEO plugin for Joomla. My client does not want to convert to Wordpress (even though they aren't selling any products, just service based org).

Hey Shivun,
I've been using the "SmartSEO" plugin for ~2 years and I love it. I think it cost like 10 bucks.. It simply gives you frontend access to edit meta data when you're logged in as superadmin. Saved me countless hours.
I also just this week installed "JCH Optimize" plugin which decreased load time nicely, a common problem when you run a Joomla site with bells and whistles.. The standard GZip and other plugins that do this would always break some part of my site, but JCH had enough options that when I tweaked em just right I reduced load time by about 30% without breaking anything.

Hi!
I work a lot with Joomla and my company also use Joomla CMS. We have tried several SEO components for Joomla and SH404Sef is without a doubt the best choice. SH404Sef gives you a lot of options to work with. It can be a bit hard in the beginning, but when you learn it you will never change.
-
There's a beta version of sh404sef for joomla 1.6 now (if that's what you're using).
Having said that, if you can move to joomla 1.6 you'll find they've made some effort to make it much more sef than 1.5 - though I did have to do some tweaks to get a canonical tag in there. I'll be using the sh404sef when it's out of beta to avoid fiddling around with menus to create clean urls.
Agree with Damon on the components - if you're using them then check compatibility with whatever SEO extension you use (if you use one that is)
-
Hi Damon,
I have experience with two joomla components for SEO
- SH404sef, Its commercial http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/site-management/sef/10134
- Joomsef its Free http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/site-management/sef/1063
The most important thing with these components, its to double check compatibility between these components and other components that you have installed. For example Joomsef might not rewrite the urls for Jevents components for example. (this is an example, might not be true)

Html extensions
I have remodeled an old html site using wordpress. I see some instructions in wordpress that says I can add an .html extension to some of the pages, but it looks pretty complicated. Is there any benefit in going through that hassle? or should I just ask my web guy to rewrite via htaccess | https://sacramentotop10.com/Weddings/Dresses.html | https://sacramentotop10.com/Weddings/Dresses.html becomes https://sacramentotop10.com/weddings/dresses

Personalization software and SEO
Hi guys, I'm just testing a personalization software in our website, basically changing the "location" text depending on the user's IP. I can see in my software that when the Google bot comes to our site the personalization software triggers an action changing the location based text to "California". Can this make Google understand that our website targets only users in California and thereof hurt our rankings in other locations nationwide? I'll appreciate your opinions.

Redirects - How Best to do this ?
Hi I am looking to close Website A which has many pages. I would like to keep the home page and add some great content to it with a link pointing to Website B. As for all the other pages excluding the home page , how is it best to approach them on Website A. Should I redirect them all to the home page of Website A which will tell Google thoose Pages are no longer needed and to prevent the visitors from seeing a 404? My Main aim here is to not lose any visitors to Website A by sending them to Website B but also to hopefully pass any Page strength from Website A to Website B Thanks Adam

301 redirects and seo..
I bought a domain and it has nice traffic. It only has about 5 main pages in php When i got the site i switched to html because php was overkill. I did the 301 and google deleted the php files and replaced with html version when i check site:domain.com It has been about 7 days. I DID NOT use 301 for each of the 5 pages to go php to html instead is used this code RewriteEngine On
Technical SEO | | samerk
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^mydomain.com
RewriteRule (.) http://www.mydomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]
RedirectMatch 301 (.).php$ http://www.mydomain.com$1.html So basically if you load php it will load the html version. dog.php > dog.html Is this OKAY? or should it be done differently.... worried! Thanks !0 -

As the main page titile is "hemorrhoids treatment". The newly created blog post is on "cure for piles" Does this blog post has any affect on the on page factors due to different title? Good Seo Titles
Hi. Mybsite is www.theprinterdepo.com and I am trying to find a good template for my product/page titles. Many users search our products by the product model: something like Q2121X. Some other users search by: hp 1320 printer or just 1320 printer. They will almost never search for hp 1320 new, or hp 1320 refurbished. My website is developed in magento, and we have a SEO plugin in which I can put a template for the URL and also a template for the product title. I was thinking for title and URL. title + condition + productmodel However many users search for: "refurbished printers" and maybe its better that our products say something like this: HP 1320 Refurbished Printer, instead of: HP 1320 Printer - Refurbished - Q2121X Please let me know your suggestions.

Changing DNS -- SEO implications?
Hey Moz, We're migrating an old site on an old server over to a new server/DNS. The plan is to keep the same URL structure and reuse our existing URL's. As long as we make minimal changes to each page's content, we should be able to update our DNS entry and get all the pages recreated and assigned to their correct URLs without any reduction in SEO rankings. Is this correct? This site gets a lot of organic traffic and ranks highly on some challenging keywords, so it's key that we retain our rankings as much as possible. I've read that it's wise to lower the DNS time-to-live to one hour, about a day before the move, to help Google crawl the DNS a little quicker. Are there any other recommendations you guys can offer or past experiences?
