Single Domain With Different Pages Deep Linking To Different Pages On External Domain
-
I've been partaking in an extensive trial study and will be releasing the results soon, however I do have quite a strong indication to the answer to this question but would like to see what everyone else thinks first, to see where the common industry mindset is at.
Let's say SiteA.com/page1.html is PR5 and links out to SiteB.com/page1.html
This of course would count as a valuable backlink.
Now, what would happen if SiteA.com/page2.html, which is also PR5, links out to SiteB.com/page2.html ?
The link from SiteA is coming from a different page, and is also pointing to a different deeplink on SiteB, however it will contain the same IP address.
What would the benefit be for having multiple deeplinks in this way (as outlined above, please read it carefully before responding) as opposed to having just a single deeplink from the domain?
If a benefit does exist, then does the benefit start to become trivial?
This has nothing to do with sitewide links. Serious answers only please.

Obviously no one here knows much about SEO. Oh well.

Interesting take on the matter. What are everyone elses thoughts?

I wonder if the IP matters at all. I have read "warnings" about being careful of shared hosting solutions due to the possibility of being characterized as being in a "bad neighborhood".
Unless someone has test data, I'm not ready to buy that unless the SE is classifying an entire geographic area as a bad neighborhood. (Not a political discussion I think they'd really want to enter into.) Systems admins regularly implement fail over an migration scenarios that involve websites being hosted at multiple IP addresses. I can't imagine that the SE's penalize the website when an IP address change takes place in DNS.
I don't think the IP address is an effective way to identify the value of content though and given the complications I mentioned above I suspect the SE's would agree. My bet is they ignore it for anything other than geolocation data.
I'm willing to be proven wrong for sure!

Interesting analysis Jake.
Your response then opens another question, do inlinks from different domains on the same IP have the same value as inlinks from different subnets, and if they don't, then do the value of the links increase as the subnet becomes greater? (eg, a different class C subnet being better than just a different class D subnet etc).
If the IP address itself didn't matter, then would it be better to have two links from separate domains on the same IP, or two links from the same domain but on different subdomains with different IPs?
Look forward to your results too, as I haven't found a study where this has been properly analyzed to any great detail.

I suspect that you will see page authority benefit on each page but that domain authority will be relatively unchanged. But I don't think that is because of the IP address. I think the fact that site A Pages 1 and 2 are on the same domain will be the bigger factor. If you had a shared hosting solution with multiple domains that had significant domain authority (and who doesn't right?) I think you could get benefit from linking from each domain.
Interestingly, I just put the same test in the field about 8 hours ago. I'll share my results with you as well.

Too many links pointing to our privacy policy page: Hurting our ranking efforts of main pages?
Hi community, As per the "Links" report from GSC, there are millions of pages pointing to our privacy policy page. We can expect high number of links to this page being ours an open source product. But these links are overtaking the count of links pointing to our homepage which are very artificial from few spammy or low quality sites. "Privacy policy" anchor text is also been the top anchor text. Our homepage ranking dropped and I suspect this is the culprit. Google might be considering this is the important page being linked on top with anchor text. Shall I Disavow these sites and will this makes Google stop counting links, and the anchor text coming from these sites as well? Suggestions please. Thanks

Competitors Linking to My Site
One of the more successful competitors in my niche has embarked on new strategy that seems to be working well for him. I noticed that many new links began to appear to my site from my competitor's stable of many websites. It appears that he has setup a link wheel to benefit a site that has been in the top Google position for several months now. The rim of the wheel links back to authority sites, including my own main site (established 7 years, now hanging on to the lowly 10th place on the serp). So the strategy seems to be: a) create a dozen sites that no-follow link back to authority sites including competitors, b) place links in a such a manner (bottom of page, uncolored links, from images) that a customer is unlikely to ever click on it, c.) do-follow to your own site and blast it to the top of Google. I don't think this competitor is worried about getting penalized. I've been watching this for years. When one site gets burned, he just shifts things around and brings up another one of his sites. He seems to age them for years, calling them up one by one as they are needed. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it a trend? Because it sure seems to work. He's crowded the front page now with 4 of his sites. Would it be appropriate for me to "disavow" his links? Would it matter?

Are All Paid Links and Submissions Bad?
My company was recently approached by a website dedicated to delivering information and insights about our industry. They asked us if we wanted to pay for a "company profile" where they would summarize our company, add a followed link to our site, and promote a giveaway for us. This website is very authoritative and definitely provides helpful use to its audience. How can this website get away with paid submissions like this? Doesn't that go against everything Google preaches? If I were to pay for a profile with them, would I request for a "nofollow" link back to my site?

Inbound Links Inquiry for a New Site
For a site that is only one to two months old, what is considered a natural amount of inbound links if you're site offers very valuable information, and you have done a marketing push to get the word out about your blog? Even if you are receiving backlinks from authority websites with high DA, does Google get suspicious if there are too many inbound links during the first few months of a sites existence? I know there are some sites that blow up very fast and receive thousands of backlinks very quickly, so I'm curious to know if Google puts these kind of sites on a watchlist or something of that nature. Or is this simply a good problem to have?

Reciprocal Links NoFollow
I am working on the SEO for a company that sells commercial construction materials and I am noticing that the vast majority of the older, authoritative construction related sites and directories require a reciprocal link to be linked to from their site. 1. If I create a reciprocating link, but nofollow/noindex that page, is that seen as blackhat? Will I see any benefit from this over a link passing page rank? 2. Will these reciprocating links hurt me, or are they worth the risk within a young portfolio? I am seeing well ranked sites listed such as justblinds.com, this would imply they reciprocated a link as well?
