A Keyword Occupied Google Top 7 Ranking. Please Comment........
-
Hello Everyone,
When the whole world is debating on EMD, whether one should use it or avoid. Many bloggers from India still crack a very good traffic from EMD only.
Recently, I was researching and found a very impressive link.
Keyword: " sad shayari hindi"
Google India Search
Top 7 position occupied by a single domain with multiple URLs. I would like to request everyone to check the screenshot and comment.

Hi Pushkar...
one more question: the site is targeting a Google different from the .com one?
Because if it is so, then - despite of all the chat about the EMD Update - that update never rolled out out of Google.com and English, hence the EMD in all the other Googles and languages had been not touched directly, if not because of Penguin and only if their link profile was very poor.

Hello Mam,
I have seen this EMD dominating on Google searches from past 6 months+. I did notice many of my clients are affected in past couple of days and they are complaining about their traffic going down. But, still many new EMD are safe.
Keyword "Sad shayari hindi" means "Sad/broken heart Poetry in hindi". Also, if you will notice, the content of each post is very thin/low. Again, there are so many things which are against the Google Quality Guidelines but still the website has dominated top 7 ranking in search results.
It would be great, if traditional SEOs can check out my this question, though I had tried my luck and tweeted to Matt Cutts also but I think my tweet was lost somewhere. I am really very eager to know about Google algorithms. When a website like which is generally not following Google Guidelines still ranking in top 7 positions out of 10.
I hope experts will notice this question and add their valuable comments.
Regards,
Pushkar Kumar

Hi Pushkar,
Having keywords in a domain can help to some extent, yes, but in today's web, for the most part, the domain has to be populated with great content. Google's penalty has largely targeted EMDs with thin content. You can find exceptions to this, but have you researched all of the factors that may be contributing to high rankings for that competitor? I am at a disadvantage here, not being able to read the language the results are in, unfortunately. I'm not sure what 'sad shayari hindi' is. For example is this a branded search, a person, a product, etc?
This question was initially assigned to me because it was perceived as Local, which is my area of expertise. I am going to as a few of our traditional SEOs to stop by to see if they can offer further insight.

Hello Miriam Ellis,
Thanks for your warm reply. EMD is still a hot topic among the SEO researcher's, though I have been advising my clients to be careful when they want to start a new business website or any other blog mainly focused on keyword in domain name,
But, when clients noticed such kind of results in google search results, they are more impressed and start believing a keyword in domain will help them to get more traffic from Google. Even, in my standalone research I have noticed many EMD still dominating in Google searches.
Regarding my question, Yes, it was about organic search and I am sure you have noticed the screenshot. Top 7 results are tapped by a single website. So, it clearly means optimizing an EMD blog, can surely help you. Are google algorithms are that blind to show 7 results on the top 10 results? Also, I have done research and keyword competion is also very good.
Regards,

Hi Pushkar,
I just wanted to clarify - when you write 'Top 7 Ranking' - are you talking about Google's Local 7 pack, or are you referring to organic rankings? Your screenshot shows organic rankings, so perhaps that's what you mean, but Google's organic results typically consist of more than seven entries, so I thought I would be sure.
If you're looking to learn more about the pros and cons of EMDs, I recommend this YouMoz post from last year:

Ranking Page #1 for Keyword without Hypen, Not at all for Keyword with Hyphen
Hi There! So I work in an industry where there are different conventions for referring to, searching on and spelling the industry name. For example, let's pretend there were a variety of different conventions for referring to the SEO industry. So someone could search for S-EO, SEO, sEO, etc. and those would all be accepted and understood means of referring to the industry. If we use the SEO example as a comparison for our industry, the two most common conventions would be S-EO and SEO. Using this example, we rank on the first page for the term "SEO" but do not rank AT ALL for the term "S-EO". We have a high-value piece of content that is targeted in the following way: "S-EO (SEO): The Basics Guide" so it is more targeted at the hyphenated word but does not rank at all for the hyphenated version, whereas it is page one for the non-hyphenated term. As additional pieces of context: -In general, our site is more targeted at the hyphenated term and there are places where we rank in the top spot for both the hyphenated and non-hyphenated versions. For example, we rank in a top 2 position for both S-EO & SEO software but do not rank at all for the broader "S-EO" term. -There are times when we do appear on page one for the term "S-EO" but it's typically only for a matter or hours or days and then we disappear entirely from the SERPs for that term. We consistently appear for "SEO." -I currently do not believe we are dealing with a penalty of any sort - our link profile is clean and our spam score per Moz is 2 / 17. Any thoughts or ideas as to what is going on here and how we can potentially rank for the term "S-EO?"

Owning all of the top 10 positions for one keyword
Hello, I would like to know if it is considered bad by Google to rank every single spot in the top 10 with the same keyword? All websites conver the same topic which this keyword, but have unique content. Those websites dont link to one another. To be clear, I am not asking if it is a good idea because it will be harder to rank, find links etc. or because the last positions don't bring enough traffic. I really just would like to know if it against Google guidelines? Any thoughts or sources are greatly appreciated.

Google Ranking Wrong Page
The company I work for started with a website targeting one city. Soon after I started SEO for them, they expanded to two cities. Optimization was challenging, but we managed to rank highly in both cities for our keywords. A year or so later, the company expanded to two new locations, so now 4 total. At the time, we realized it was going to be tough to rank any one page for four different cities, so our new SEO strategy was to break the website into 5 sections or minisites consisting of 4 city-targeted sites, and our original site which will now be branded as more of a national website. Our URL structures now look something like this:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | cpapciak
www.company.com
www.company.com/city-1
www.company.com/city-2
www.company.com/city-3
www.company.com.city-4 Now, in the present time, all is going well except for our original targeted city. The problem is that Google keeps ranking our original site (which is now national) instead of the new city-specific site we created. I realize that this is probably due to all of the past SEO we did optimizing for that city. My thoughts are that Google is confused as to which page to actually rank for this city's keyword terms and I was wondering if canonical tags would be a possible solution here, since the pages are about 95% identical. Anyone have any insight? I'd really appreciate it!0 -
How come I get different rankings on same word in local search results of Google?
Dear fellow Mozzer's, for one of my clients I get different local results in Google. My client is a real-estate broker and when I search on "real-estate agent" + the city name we are on top. So whoohoo you would say BUT when Firefox has the exact city name determined as the location I am in and I only use "real-estate agent" I get also the local results but we are listed as number 8?? Hope anyone can give me insights as I have no idea what's causing this. Thanks in advance for your help!

My ranking spiked then died in the butt? why? Please help!
Hi guys, I have been persevering with this ranking for some time now and thought you might be able to help. Or direct me to where I can get help. I am learning a lot through SEOmoz but I am still very green. Basically on the 20th of the 12th we jumped up to a 2nd place listing and then dropped back down on the 17th of the 1st 2011. The site is http://mlb.broomeaccommodation.com.au and the search term is 'Broome Accommodation' as you can see it is a considerable drop and really affecting our bookings and sales figures. I have attached a link to a screen capture of the problem - http://exitforward.com/kimberleyaccomm/seomoz.png Interested to hear your thoughts and get some help on this frustrating matter Kind regards Bodie Czeladka
