Where does Schema.org Microdata go on a page?

Say you've got a Magento e-commerce site and you want to add Schema.org Microdata to it to take advantage of Google's Rich Snippets feature.
Would the markup be part of the page's HTML TITLE . . . or somewhere in the bare-bones description (usually wrought by inputting data into separate fields in the CMS), e.g.,
Item: Something
Price: $00.00
Short Description: blah, blah, blahOr, hidden somewhere in the header?
Or, can it be marked-up somewhere beneath my lengthy (and Panda-friendly) content and subsequently extracted by Google and highlighted in the SERPs?
Admittedly, I'm more than a bit late to the Schema.org party and I'm a content-guy anyway; and not much good at under-the-hood stuff. I figure I'd better get my chops together, now.
I've searched Moz.com's Q&A as well as Google's and Schema.org's and haven't come up with an answer yet that doesn't require that I learn a whole new vocabulary.

Yes, your question makes sense.
You can put the schema.org properties in any order, but spitting the description like that is going to be problematic. I would also suggest that your example is tedious to read and lacks a product description heading. A more realistic example would be:
h1 Widget /h1
The widget comes in blue, green, ...Hiding the price in the middle of the description is also difficult for humans to read. Putting aside the schema syntax, the example IMO is a poor user experience.

Perhaps I worded my question poorly.
When I've tested Schema.org, it returns a result that looks something along the lines of:
Item: widget
Price: $00.00
**Short Description: **blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blahBut, what if my on-page content reads:"The **widget **comes in blue, green or yellow, and costs $00.00. It blows away the competition and could easily be described as blah, blah, blah, **blah, blah, blah, **blah, blah, blah."
In other words, the page's content is written in a narrative form, and I'd rather not have that narrative broken up with a block showing just the Item, Price, and Description—but, I'd still like to have the benefits of rich snippets.
Did that make more sense?

I do not work on Magento, I work with Prestashop, but I think you might come across the same problem I did with my clients. Google does not specifically say you cannot pass a product amount with a currency sign, but I have found they will not accept the "offer" if the price has a currency sign. We had to develop a regex function in smarty to break the currency sign off of out products prices and they were all accepted after that.

The markup is used to identify what the content is. When a human sees
2003 Boxster, Red with Black convertible top, 26,000 miles, $14,000
we know someone is trying to sell something and we know what the item is, the description, and price, but search engines may or may not know this is a product for sale or is a review of a product or something else. The schema.org allows you to tell search engines this is indeed a product for sale and here are the attributes of that product including item name, price, etc.
So, in answer to your question, the markup goes in the body of the page and marks up the content.

External 404 pages
A client of mine is linking to a third-party vendor from their main site. The page being linked to loads with a Page Not Found error and then replaces some application content once the Javascript kicks in. This process is not visible to users (the application loads fine for front-end users) but it is being picked up as a 404 error in broken link reports. This link is part of the site skin so it's on every page. Outside of the annoyance of having lots of 404 errors being flagged in a broken link report, does this cause any actual issue? Eg, do search enginges see that my client is linking to something that is a 404 error, and does that cause them any harm?

Page rank and menus
Hi, My client has a large website and has a navigation with main categories. However, they also have a hamburger type navigation in the top right. If you click it it opens to a massive menu with every category and page visible. Do you know if having a navigation like this bleeds page rank? So if all deep pages are visible from the hamburger navigation this means that page rank is not being conserved to the main categories. If you click a main category in the main navigation (not the hamburger) you can see the sub pages. I think this is the right structure but the client has installed this huge menu to make it easier for people to see what there is. From a technical SEO is this not bad?

Competing with doorway pages
Hi all, it's my understanding that 'doorway pages' are bad practice. However, when googling for the services that our company offers, along the lines of '[service] [location]', businesses turn up in Google SERPs that outrank us purely with doorway pages. Take this as an example: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=seo+dorking One of the results is this company who seem to rank for pretty much every town modifier: https://prioritypixels.co.uk/seo-agency-dorking/ If you look at their sitemaps you'll see thousands of these pages: https://prioritypixels.co.uk/page-sitemap16.xml All the content is slightly different but broadly speaking it is very similar. It seems that, in the short term, we can't compete with this company but we could if we employed the same tactics. So my question is: is what they are doing really risking a penalty? b1Lpp5

How should I setup schema.org for ecommerce site?
I understand how to do products, what I am more curious about is the organization schema. Is it worth it to set it up as an ecommerce business? I would have to set it up on the About Us page for the site, does it matter to Google that it is not located on the homepage?

Internal links to preferential pages
Hi all, I have question about internal linking and canonical tags. I'm working on an ecommerce website which has migrated platform (shopify to magento) and the website design has been updated to a whole new look. Due to the switch to magento, the developers have managed to change the internal linking structure to product pages. The old set up was that category pages (on urls domain.com/collections/brand-name) for each brand would link to products via the following url format: domain.com/products/product-name . This product url was the preferential version that duplicate product pages generated by shopify would have their canonical tags pointing to. This set up was working fine. Now what's happened is that the category pages have been changed to link to products via dynamically generated urls based on the user journey. So products are now linked to via the following urls: domain.com/collection/brand-name/product-name . These new product pages have canonical tags pointing back to the original preferential urls (domain.com/products/product-name). But this means that the preferential URLs for products are now NOT linked to anywhere on the website apart from within canonical tags and within the website's sitemap. I'm correct in thinking that this definitely isn't a good thing, right? I've actually noticed Google starting to index the non-preferential versions of the product pages in addition to the preferential versions, so it looks like Google perhaps is ignoring the canonical tags as there are so many internal links pointing to non-preferential pages, and no on-site links to the actual preferential pages? I've recommended to the developers that they change this back to how it was, where the preferential product pages (domain.com/products/product-name) were linked to from collection pages. I just would like clarification from the Moz community that this is the right call to make? Since the migration to the new website & platform we've seen a decrease in search traffic, despite all redirects being set up. So I feel that technical issues like this can't be doing the website any favours at all. If anyone could help out and let me know if what I suggested is correct then that would be excellent. We are switching our CMS local pages from a subdomain approach to a subfolder approach. What's the best way to handle this? Should we redirect every local subdomain page to its new subfolder page?
We are looking to create a new subfolder approach within our website versus our current subdomain approach. How should we go about handling this politely as to not lose everything we've worked on up to this point using the subdomain approach? Do we need to redirect every subdomain URL to the new subfolder page? Still Going Down In Search
After signing up to SEOmoz as a pro user and sorting out all the things that the search flagged up with our website (htyp://www.whosjack.org) we jumped very slightly in search only to continue going down again. We are a news based site, we have no dup content, we have good writers and good orangic links etc I am currently very close to having to call it a day. Can anyone suggest anything at all from looking at the site or suggest a good SEO firm that I could talk to who might be able to work out the issue as I am totally at a loss as to what do do now. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.
