Did Google Turn Off the Rank Tracking API ??
-
I might be responding too soon on this... but has anyone been able to use the Moz rank tracker or any other web-based rank-tracking tool that uses the Google API since about noon today (NYC TIME)??
-
OK - glad to hear that. If you ever encounter an outage that's longer than 10-15 mins, please don't hesitate to ping our help team (help@moz.com). Hope you're well EGOL!

Thanks, Rand.
Good to know that you have these tests built-in.
Since about noon yesterday and into this morning, when I clicked the blue refresh buttons for a keyword, that keyword jumped to the top of the list, spun for a bit and did not return a ranking. I just tried a few and am getting better results.

Our one-off rank tracker: https://moz.com/researchtools/rank-tracker and the rank tracking inside Moz Analytics: http://analytics.moz.com/dashboard/overview/ seems to be working fine. We have an early warning detection system on the engineering side that goes off if we're having trouble, and there hasn't been a blip today.

No problems at my end, but I think the ranking service I use is crawler based.

I saw this today, I don't know if you are familiar with it, http://www.notprovidedcount.com/ and this http://www.searchenginejournal.com/google-gone-100-provided-secure-search/70799/ They could also be affecting things.

Thank you Lesley and Jonathan.
The ranking monitors that I use are not working. Also, today most of the searches being done through google are not showing keywords in analytics programs. My [keyword not provided] counts are up between 25% and 35% on all of my sites. I figured that while Google was at it they would cut off our rank checking abilities.

I do not know if it related, but ther has been a pretty big gmail issue all day. It seems that they understated the problem this morning, but re-adjusted it this evening saying around 50% of accounts were affected. It might have something to do with it, who knows how Google's networks and infrastructure is actually set up. http://techcrunch.com/2013/09/23/gmails-ongoing-email-slow-down-nearing-resolution/

I use another web based tracker that checks the rankings daily. I guess I will find out tomorrow, and will update this thread then. I am not sure they use an API though. TBH I didn't realise they used Api's for this.

KW Explorer is Working to Disambiguate Keywords Google Merges Together
Hey gang, Russ Jones from Moz has been doing a ton of heavy lifting work to try to get around the new problem posed by Google AdWords recent change to merged-keyword volume data. But, we're fighting back against this obfuscation in Keyword Explorer. I'm sharing two emails (slightly edited) from Russ about what we're doing here: Introduction to the Problem: Google Adwords Keyword Planner is the primary source for keyword search volume (how often a keyword is searched monthly on Google) for much of the search marketing industry. While Google has grouped together highly-similar terms for a while (especially misspellings), in June of 2016 they dramatically increased this keyword-grouping. This means similar phrases like "keyword rank", "keyword ranking" and "keyword rankings" would all be reported as having the same, combined search volume, rather than their individual search volumes. If you were to take Google's numbers at face value, you might think there are 3,000 searches per month for these 3 terms, when in reality there is only 1,000, divided amongst the 3 terms. How we are addressing it: Moz's Keyword Explorer uses a blend of data sources, not just Keyword Planner, to build our volume metrics. This gives us a distinct advantage in that we can adjust the volume of words that deviate dramatically in one data set verses another. Take for example the phrases "keyword rank", "keyword ranking", and "keyword rankings". While Google Keyword Planner might report all of these as having 1,000 searches per month, Moz Keyword Explorer can detect that these numbers are significantly higher than what our models would predict given our other data sets. We can then adjust the volume accordingly. Moreover, given our huge keyword data set, we can also identify grouped phrases (like these 3) and divide the volume proportionally to what we see in our other data sets. Thus, we address the grouping problem from multiple directions. Here's email #2 from Russ, detailing more of how we're attacking this: I have been working pretty much non-stop on this keyword volume disambiguation problem (finding the real search volume of individual keywords when Google clumps several together). I think I have settled on a pretty good solution and am working on getting it all in. For example... Google Keyword Volume for the phrases "briefcase for women" and "briefcases for women" are both at 3600 because they have been lumped together. My disambiguation script says the singular (briefcase for women) should be 2731 and the plural should be 869. Google Trends roughly agrees with this, showing that the singular is searched more than 2x the plural: https://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=briefcase%20for%20women%2C%20briefcases%20for%20women&cmpt=q&tz=Etc%2FGMT%2B4 Basically, Keyword Explorer should already be providing some more accurate/segmented numbers than AdWords, and in the future, we'll get even better thanks to our clickstream data and our evolving models. Any questions, let us know!

What's the best way to track broad search terms?
I'm finding out that Moz only tracks exact match results for key terms. Does anyone know of a good tool for tracking broad search terms? So for example: keyword1 keyword2 keyword3 as opposed to "keyword1 keyword2 keyword3"? Any help is appreciated!

Why Moz Rank tracker's results are different from results search in browser?
I would like to perform a competitor rank analysis in Google.gr . I have noticed that the results from the rank tracker for Google.gr are different than the results in Google.gr from a machine located in Greece with no Google account logged in. Could you inform me why such a behavior occurs?

Rank Checker Replacement Suggestions?
We have used SEObook’s Rank Checker Firefox Plug-in when running one off rank reports. Do you have any suggestions for a replacement (either free or paid) that would not run on our own IP? Some hosted type solution. Again this is for one off rank reports for sets of key phrases. NOT ongoing week to week or day to day rank tracking.
