Alt and title tags on images
-
For SEO, are alt and title tags still worth the effort? Or have they gone the way of meta keywords?
I can see having alt tags for visually impaired reasons, but at this point is there any SEO reason to use them?
-
Just to clarify - the topic creator was asking about image title tags, not regular title tags, and my response was that the title tags embedded in images do not carry much weight. The alt tag itself carries a bit more.
Of course a page title tag is probably the single most important thing on a page... But that wasn't what was asked here.
Just wanted to clarify so my original post wasn't misunderstood.
Thanks all!

Onsite optimization is part of the foundation for getting a page to rank for the keywords you want.
Optimizing the title tag & alt tags are some of the top ways to optimize for onsite. (See 2013 Ranking Factors)
I've had clients who received high quality links to a page, but their rankings didn't increase until after the title tags were updated.

All tags have some value as Jesse said. Even we are trying to test are
meta keywords
efficient or not.WE have some insights that google ignore them, even sharing that keywords with competitors isnt that ideal and they are extra code on page but here at Czech Republic we have a popular local search engine named seznam which might still give some value for meta keywords and we are willingly to understand do they still work or not before we delete the existing ones or add new ones.

Alt tags still carry benefit. Title tags not so much. That said, be wary of keyword stuffing.

Is it OK to include name of your town to the title tag or H1 tag on a blog to enhance local search results
I recently attended a webinar by ETNA Interactive on local search SEO. The presenter recommended including the name of your town in the title of the blog to increase local search SEO. Is this OK? Ive always been concerned that it is such an obvious attempt to rank locally that Google would consider it "spammy" ? black hat, "sketchy" or otherwise manipulative. Have the rules changed? Is it OK to do? Brooke

Creating the META title tag?
I am having a hard time figuring out what the best META title tag is for my site. I have a deal blog that focuses on Amazon deals but I also write articles, top ten lists, etc. It is baby and mom related. Is there a tutorial for this? Should I just experiment and watch my organic search results? TIA!

I am optimizing title tags and was wondering if it makes a difference if I use "commas" in between keywords that are synonyms or should I use "and" instead?
For example: "pants, trousers at pants.com" or "pants and trousers at pants.com".

Change 10yrs old home title tag seo safe?
Howdy everyone! Wish you the best for 2012! We have a client who is ranked #1 for keyword "blue widgets". Their site's homepage title has the keyword "blue widgets" in it and has been the same for 10yrs+. Recently they have added other types of widgets to their offering. Is it safe to change their title by adding more keywords to it? For example: "blue widgets | green widgets | brand x widgets". May our client lose their ranking if we change their title? Thanks in advance for your help!
